Speak Now is what made me a huge Taylor Swift fan. Before 2010, I only knew her for her 2 hit singles (Love Story and You Belong with Me) and that VMA 2009 Kanye thing. 2010, I finally gave Taylor a chance and bought her Speak Now Target album right when it launched. To this day, Speak Now is my all time favorite album from her and my Enchanted is my second favorite Taylor Swift song (All Too Well is still my favorite)

Speak Now is the album that introduced Taylor to my life! Being born and raised in South Korea, I didn’t speak English at all when I first heard this record. I wanted to understand what she was singing about, and as soon as I understood the lyrics, I sympathized with her songs because I was going through my first love and first kiss at that age (when I was 12). Now I became her dedicated fan who can guess all of her songs with 1 second clip. I also speak English very fluently, had dramatic love affairs, and doesn’t hesitate to speak up when I need to, just like Taylor said to “speak now” in her speak now album prologue 😆

Think Speak Now is my favourite TS albums, up there with Rep and Red! I would love to see Taylor bring back some more organic instrumentals and rock influence in a future album, but as a the much more mature and wise artists that she is now. Her vocals go so well with electric guitars and she always has fun with these songs on stage.

Speak now was the era where i officially became a Swiftie and let me tell you: it was a freaking magical time. Becoming a fan at the very end of the Fearless era( where I got to see her live on the last date on the Fearless Tour), I really didn’t know what to expect from her third album but little did I know, Speak Now would be my favorite album and era to date. So many memories of this era for me: getting the flu during release week(I was in 4th grade at the time) and my mom surprising me with the entire album downloaded on my green IPod. Wanting to scream “Mean” at all of my bullies. Seeing her live at Gillette for the second time, where it would also be the infamous rain show( and I regret nothing). Getting the live CD/DVD for Christmas. Watching the “Story of Us” MV have its world premiere on MTV. The Thanksgiving special she did for NBC( that I still watch every thanksgiving). It was just a magical era and I have cried to “Never Grow Up” more in recent years. This album also made me love the color purple. I’m very excited for the Taylor Version of this because she can go back to this era and really go all in with the maturity she gained from both folklore and evermore, and make this album even more personal than it was in 2010, especially when it comes to songs like “Dear John”, “Last Kiss” and “Innocent”.

Fearless was my first Taylor Swift album but Speak Now really made me fall in love with her. It is absolutely one of my favorite records, like, in general. The storytelling, the lyricism, it's so personal and so easy to connect with. I think it's interesting you compare SN to Rep, I think they're definitely similar in that they feel so honest and genuine...but I think Rep is a little more personal and SN does a better job in the storytelling department (its titular track, The Story of Us, Enchanted, Mine, Long Live). In that sense I think I see it more as a cousin of folklore/evermore. And I'm so excited for the rerecord, mostly for those vault tracks! I'm with you on Better Than Revenge, too. Does TS construct a messy narrative? Yeah, but that what makes it fun. I love how petty it is, and think it's an absolute banger. Always love your videos!!

Speak Now is definitely an amazing album with diverse and unique tracks and one of the most underrated albums ever for its popularity. Also good video! Ive been watching a couple of these TS videos lately and there really good especially the Reputation video, Reputation is probably my faovrite albums of Taylor Swift rn.

Speak Now definitely deserves the world. It was in some ways her country farewell but listening again, you could really feel like shift to pop. The fact she wrote a lot of the choruses alone and they work so well... I'm stunned and not surprised she really branched out on Red then her later works. Thanks for watching! The Rep one is my all-time fave album recap. I strive to make my recaps for Taylor as good as that one.

I became a Taylor swift fan with folklore and evermore being my first albums I've fully listened to the songs of. And then midnights, I've been slowly making time to listen to the rest of her catalogue, and it's been all the more depressing that I listened to the terrible things the media has said about her when I was a young girl myself. I have yet to find a Taylor Swift song that I don't enjoy.
@EljohnMacaranas
@EljohnMacaranas Жыл бұрын
Don’t beat yourself up, the media was relentless and society even just almost 13 years ago was different. People used gay and an insult casually and the most diverse show on TV was… Glee. It’s not a race to become a fan, your experience of revisiting the albums is just as magical as being there when they dropped tbh! When I revisited the album, I got to appreciate things I did not understand or perceive as a kid, you get to skip wondering why adults seemed so shocked about some of the lyrics.

9:08 Omg, I'd never imagined someone will agree on what was I thinking a long time ago that Reputation and Speak Now are both sister albums. 😱 Red and Lover are kinda sister album. 1989 and Midnights are somewhat related because of the success of both albums.
@EljohnMacaranas
@EljohnMacaranas Жыл бұрын
I’m glad I’m not the only one like… they’re both very much records that opened and closed the gates of her being public about her life musically. Red and Lover are very much sisters like Red is about unbridled passionate ephemeral (red) love while Lover is about slowly consuming lasting love (golden) love. 1989 and Midnights don’t share much DNA other than being her two undeniable pop smash hit albums critically and commercially. I’d say Midnights is Lover’s cooler sister. Reputation and Lover are like an opposites attract couple for sure. Folklore and Evermore are sisters.

Speak Now is my favorite albm of hers, I don't think it's her best by any means, but it feels the most personal album. It also captures Taylor at a time before she exploded farther into fame. I find that starting around RED her songs became less relatable to the average person (which isnt bad) and more about being Taylor SwiftTM. It just feels like a warm hug of an album and I dont know if she'll ever make another record that sounds anything like it again, especially because she co-writes a lot of her music nowadays.

Speak Now's rerecording (along with Debut's) fascinate me the most because there's this authentic imperfection to the vocals partially due to age and vocal maturity. Some shaky notes and short notes on this record might be replaced with more confident polished vocals like how on Fearless TV there was an obvious feeling you were listening to a 30-something woman recording her old poetry and prose from her teenage years. I do think Taylor's recent vocals will do Enchanted and Haunted, songs where you could sort of hear her fighting the instrumentals, the justice they deserve.

What i also love about Speak Now is that it was beginning of her vocal journey. I really love that Taylor wasn't just petty and wrote Mean as response for criticism but she actually took that criticism and improved her vocals. On Speak Now she started attempting more difficult and complex vocals. When you compare her vocals during Speak Now era and especially Speak Now Tour there is a big difference to her performances before this era. Her vocal skills progressed in every era but Speak Now was the beginning of this journey and we should be forever grateful for that.

The timing of the VMA incident is WILD because Kanye did all that just for Beyonce to win Video of the Year, the coveted award of that night where she was up against both male (where Kanye was nominated too) and female artists, that was even more of a success to Beyonce. Like based on pop culture that time, it was pretty obvious that if Beyonce didn't win Best Female Video then that means she pretty much has Video of the Year locked if you compare Single Ladies to the other competition.

Absolutely Speak Now is her most underrated record! 💜🫶 It’s my favourite because it's an album I grew up with. I remember being like seven and downloading her songs on my mom's little iPod and writing down the lyrics in my little notebook, even though I wasn't aware of the deep meaning behind them. I'm excited to hear specific songs (Long Live, Mean, Never Grow Up, Dear John, Enchanted, Haunted, and Last Kiss) about how she's reminiscing about those times; it's almost like listening to them again. I am a huge fan of her pop/rock songs on this record, like "The Story of Us." And Better Than Revenge: I've always wanted to hear more inspired songs like those. I'm also looking forward to the vault tracks because I know they'll have that whimsical feel that her other songs have had (I'm hoping she has Let's Battle, an unreleased song that you can find on KZbin that perfectly suits the album). The deluxe tracks aren’t my favorites; I find they don’t suit the album as well, so maybe the Taylor versions will give them a new meaning for me. Also, I'm really curious what she’s going to do with the album cover because, to me, it’s so iconic and perfect that I don't want her to change it a lot, and I'm wondering if she might change the album name to Enchanted (Taylor's Version) because, like you said, that’s what she originally wanted to call it. I hope when the Taylor’s Version is released, it gets all the appreciation and love it deserves because, in my mind, it's in my top three TS albums (Folklore, Red, and Speak Now).

Most gay anthems aren't written to be gay anthems. It's usually something relatable but still general like Dancing on My Own or Cut to the Feeling or Mean. They're all just songs that were eventually celebrated or viewed by the community as something. YNTCD felt very... forced. You really can't force a gay anthem written to be that way these days, I think the last explicitly gay anthem to really click organically was Born this Way but I appreciated YNTCD and Taylor's support for the community.
