I was arrested and jailed for six months here in the U.S. for posting online that I run with scissors and that I will poke you in the eye with my wand to show you how it works. Prosecutor said I was a danger to society. The trial sounded like they had a 6 year old on trial.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re obviously moving toward this craziness right now, however currently we still follow the US constitution and there’s no defense lawyer that wouldn’t have had those charges thrown out. Theres more to this story, the prosecution and judge wouldn’t have let this go to a jury if you just randomly made a post saying this.

Yes, speech IS one of the most pervasive cybercrimes globally, and a larger problem in most Western regions than murders as to number of victims and adverse impact (if many small crimes are summed, and grossly exceed damages from few major crimes). The problem, as with bad cops and policing for profit, is how to effectively distinguish speech (AI and IVR included now; do robots have 1Am rights?) that deserves civil and human rights legal protections, from speech as the equivalent of a burglar with a hammer or gang of thugs using baseball bats in crime, from the majority of lawful uses of the same tools? And do so in ways corrupt politicians and their mob bosses don't corrupt?

@@juangalton999 Care to suggest functional systems whereby we could block billionaire nutcases and predators or demonstrably criminal governments, from being in positions needed to restrict other kinds of predatory criminals with scams that are under-restricted? There are problematic reasons why NOTA (none of the above) is the top choice of many people over anyone running in corrupt political systems, but at the same time, isn't a viable option.
