yeah its just a terrible agenda filled pander game, really shows the death of a industry when big games like this are THIS heavy handed with it: - Spanish language completely butchered for "inclusion" - ESG company blackrock has 7% of sony stocks and it shows its influence - performative pandering that they can't even get right - like the flag in Mile's room or taiyaki stand that can't even figure out Taiyaki isn't a pretzel - Mary Jowl face and androgynous body type cause femininity is seen as bad these days - Peter Parker emasculated constantly to push up Miles and Mary Jowl - Miles literally has no reason to exist - All they do with miles is remove Peter's agency in his own story, - Peter gets beat up then Miles saves him to show he's "important" when really its just devaluing Peter's ability to make miles look better - MJ stealth sections ridiculously overpowered to make her sections seem good when really its laughable - Black cat doesn't get missions, neither does wraith as playable but time for terrible MJ sections - Black cat retcon to bi and having a gf so the entire time she's manipulating Peter and causing stress in his home life for no good reason, also devaluing her care to her supposed GF they made up just now, legitimately makes her a terrible character now - Kraven and venom wasted to push more time to ESG and social politics - Mile's side missions are mediocre from helping someone ask someone out for prom to graffiti art, one is with two gay guys and the other with a deaf girl cause "inclusion over storytelling" and its so telling - fight club girl beating up a guy twice her size while he begs, just misandry in a nutshell - museum mission only there to say the funding gets taken away by EVIL WHITE GUY BUSINESS OWNER cause that's all they always do white = bad always to these writers and of course Scream fight of Peter being emasculated, insulted, while he begs for forgiveness from his "queen" (second sony game to emphasize that idea, other was GoW Ragnarok Freya speech) and she saves HERSELF cause she's a STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER if u ever wonder why it feels so padded so irrelevant to what u do, remember what they make u do and the social politics to why and it is obvious just another product that kicks Peter's teeth in to push identity and social doctrine onto people

The symbiotes don't make up feelings in their hosts, they just enhance what's already there. Even though what Scream was saying was out of character for MJ, they were all very real thoughts and feelings MJ had been holding onto deep down.

Honestly, the Version Norman Osborn in this game has to be my favorite take on the character (besides the one from the Sam Raimi films and No Way Home). We know that he’s a corrupt scumbag who is willing to do anything to get what he wants, but we also see that (unlike most versions of the character) this version of Norman legitimately loves his son and is willing to do whatever it takes to save him. Obviously, if using his son with a potentially dangerous alien creature wasn’t the best decision, Norman, even admit this, during the Venom Mission, but you can tell that he did it out of desperation to save his son, so it makes him all the more sympathetic. I’m excited to see where he goes in the next game.

I couldn't agree more. The motive that Norman will have to become the Green Goblin (if, in fact, that is the route Insomniac is taking. Which I hope it is. I would much rather him become green goblin than Harry) will have such an emotional effect to it. Insomniac is great at story telling. Every installment has had such emotional pulls. From Peter having worked for Otto, who was one of his best friend's, who saw him as a father figure, who then needed to fight him. All the way to Phin being the Tinkerer and Miles needed to fight her. And then Harry, Peters life long Best Friend, succumbing to the venom Symbiote and becoming one of Peter's most powerful enemies to date. They are just great at creating emotional stories that makes feel like you're actually a part of the story rather than just watching it or playing through it. More often-than-not they have a way to make you feel like whats actually happening in the game is real. I have no idea how they do this. But there have been multiple times across all 3 installments where I'm so invested in the story and everything happening that I often forget that its a game or that I'm even playing a game. This was the first franchise I've ever played where this sensation has actually happened. No other game franchise (including all previous Spider-Man games pre-2018) has managed to create stories where I legit feel like I'm actually there. There have been so many times that I actually ended up feeling like I'm actually the character that I'm playing as (whether it's Peter or Miles). I am honestly still in shock and awe at how Insomniac managed to pull this off. But they did. I am beyond excited to see what they do with Norman in the third game and the potential introduction of the Green Goblin.

That's how I interpreted it too. Miles responds to the news with: "Go be Peter Parker for a while", which implies that Pete isn't totally done. If Peter intended to hang up the webs permanently, I think he would have cleared that up immediately and not string Miles along having him assume Pete would hop back into the fold eventually when he wasn't. Of course, maybe they go the route of Miles being the primary Spider-Man and Peter only suits up when Miles needs him for a big threat he can't take on his own. But given there's still unresolved storylines for Peter's Spider-Man (such as The Flame/Cletus Kassidy escaping and eventually becoming Carnage), I doubt he's gonna be out of the picture for very long. Although, I did get the feeling several times throughout the game that they are setting up a bigger story dealing with the possibility that the original Spider-Man is becoming obsolete and that Miles is the better hero. Which makes me wonder if we'll get a Superior Spider-Man story in the 3rd game especially since Otto is shown in the post credits scene in this one, or if they're setting up Peter's actual death, since in the original continuity that Miles was created in the Peter Parker that was the first Spider-Man dies while fighting... the Green Goblin. I hope that doesn't happen though because I really want this Peter to live a good and happy life since so many other versions of Peter seemingly can't, but it would also be pretty thematic.

For the part about Scream, pretty sure it was the fact that Peter knew there was truth to what was being said. The symbiote feeds off the user's desires and distorts them, which only takes place after Peter puts in on.

As you said, the symbiotic is very impressionable at the beginning. The first person to wear the symbiote is Harry Osborne, who is impatient, quick to anger, and reckless. That anger really transfers to the symbiote once Peter dies. I wonder if that is why Peter grows so angry the more the suit is worn (and why the death scene was needed): it gives reason as to why Peter gets so edgy with the symbiote on

I was also very disappointed that the story missions that require the black suit for you into it. Especially when in the marketing, there were some scenes that had the advanced suit when in the final game we’re in the black suit, and I’m pretty sure those are rendered in-game, so what’s the big idea? I hope with new game+ it won’t force us into all those suits for it, but it probably will. With that little tangent over, I absolutely loved this game!

I thought the first act of this story was absolutely phenomenal. However, once Peter got the black suit, the pacing kinda fell apart for me. I don't know, it just felt like his anger should've been more gradual. Also, not the biggest fan of this Venom. I appreciate the ambition, but it's just not my cup of tea. Kraven, though? Dude you’re probably a symbiote because its like you’re on my mind. That’s exactly my analyse of the game. The first act was VERY WELL paced. But then… its the fucking longest arc of the game LOL. 15 missions of it (until get black suit) 9 missions of second arc (black suit) 7 missions of third act (venom) The content we got to see was truly amazing. Yuri’s performance, venom’s performance… but everything happened so fast. The game have a ton of side activities but black suited spiderman doesn’t show his new behavior on any of them! One moment you’re so angry defeating street thugs and on the other one you’re asking yuri to spare Cletus… they should had made different dialogue to all side activities to match peter’s moment in the game. Also, the black suit arc should be bigger. At least a couple more of main missions to turn that changing in behavior more believable.. About venom, i agree with you. He doesn’t bother even explaining why his name is venom or what are those other symbiotes. All of them are his brothers? Cletus one was at OSCORP too? Why norman didn’t gave it to harry? So many questions … The whole arc of turning the city into warzone kind was rushed too but i understand, act 3 was rushed on first game too. That was not the main problem for me, but we should had more of symbiote spiderman arc.. thats the content that we won’t have anymore. Venom we can have at sequels Kraven is the true highlight of the game. Amazing character. Kraven's representation and presence were top tier, but they dropped the ball storytelling wise, we should've had more 1 on 1 (or 2 on 1) scenes with Kraven and we should've learned more about him, we learn more about him in the side quests than in the main story which is a problem, it feels like an afterthought because of that, plus we barely see any reaction from the public or from the authorities like the police on Kraven, he just strolled onto NY and the police did nothing, in the 2018 and MM games the police tried fighting the demons and the underground, Miles and Pete should've been more direct with trying to find Kraven in the first act, like it was with finding Mr. Negative in the 2018 game, we learned about Li's past through pursuing him, his relationship with the idea of yin and yang, his parents, history with oscorp etc., we don't get this for Kraven despite him being an impressive villain, I think Pete and Miles should've had a run in with Kraven where he affirms personally to them his goals and where we learn a bit of where he came from. Venom though I think was perfect on every level, same with Peter, the behavioral shift was completely fine imo, it doesn't have to be a slow burn as long as it makes sense, the stress from the possibility of losing Harry and the EMF foundation getting destroyed was the main motivator of that, plus the fiasco with the lizard, and Kraven still being a threat, once Connors was cured Pete was already too far gone, you can visibly see the symbiote tightening its grip on Pete after Connors tells him it chose him, as if affirming that decision, and at the same time preventing outside interference by becoming closer to the host, and thus harder to remove from Pete, (showing its intelligence, it knows outside forces are working to separate them) there's a lot to dissect with the development of the symbiote and it as a character, both on Pete and Harry, a pretty subtle detail I loved was that symbiote Pete clearly enjoyed witnessing the destruction he caused while wrecking the Hunters despite the EMF's destruction causing him major stress, already foreshadowing the paradoxical nature of the symbiote suit.

Played this game in 2 days on Spectacular difficulty and I have to say it was the best game that I have ever played by far. The story and plot made sense and the tension only continued to rise until the finale. Can’t wait for Insomniac to add patches for the minor bugs and glitches in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 along with the new game+, so that I can replay it in all of its glory.

Kraven didn't want to be "cured," because to cure his cancer would mean he'd have to grow old and feeble the long way. He wanted death to work for it, so the suit was only ever a tool for him, a means to get his final hunt to "stop holding back."

I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed at Venom. The story with Harry was fine but it's simply not what I want out of Venom. Also the launch trailer's battle in the streets in broad daylight had me REALLY hoping for that as an actual set piece. Definitely nowhere near my personal favorite game, but in terms of spiderman it still does more than enough to own that crown.

A very real fight between a couple that had been building under the surface being magnified to an extreme by symbiote/spider-power shenanigans. I'd argue it wasn't "Scream" doing the talking so much as submerged parts of MJ being given a chance to talk; none of that was fabricated whole cloth by the symbiote, and Peter's reacting earnestly to all the accusations indicates that there's legitimacy to everything being said (i.e.: Peter realizing he'd been there for MJ less than he'd thought). Just like a real fight between a couple-things that have been small annoyances might build up and blindside the other partner if it all comes out at once in a frenzy. I just thought this scene was really well executed and rang true in a perfect moment of superhero/personal life collision, and it sucked hearing it dismissed as nonsensical.

I loved playing this game and hope more content will be added through updates or DLC expansion in the near future because while I agree with everything that was stated, this game was the fastest platinum trophy at only 20 hours of playtime; maybe I'm a little too spoiled playing longer games like Persona 5 Royal and JRPGs in general so was kind of hoping I would have something to hold me over longer than one weekend.

They mishandled the Black Suit. The decision to separate the symbiote powers from the suit you choose to wear makes the Black Suit feel like nothing more than another skin. There are several big missed opportunities here that the Spider-Man games of old handled far better. One of which is simply the change in Spidey's movements/animations when in and out of the Black Suit. In this game, there is NO DIFFERENCE when in the Black Suit or in the red suit. No difference in walking, swinging, idle, or combat animations whatsoever. There also should have been different interactions with civilians when free-roamimg; more aggressive or dismissive when in black. Not to mention that by making the Symbiote Suit just another skin in the suits menu, it robs the player of that power fantasy feature we'd gotten before in games like Web of Shadows and Spider-Man 3 (PS2): the ability to switch in and out of the Black Suit at the press of a button. They could've even implemented the incredible feature that modders have shown possible, which is to have the Symbiote Suit adapt to whichever suit you're wearing at the time. For instance, if you're wearing the 2099 suit and you activate the symbiote, you'd end up with a black and white version of it (which, funny enough, we got in the form of a "suit style" color variant, but not an official "Symbiote Suit"). Insomniac really dropped the ball here.

If the game isn't fun to play and doesn't fulfill the player's fantasy, but it has a great narrative and fancy cutscenes, then I'd rather just watch the game on KZbin like a movie instead of playing it. What Insomniac has done is prioritize making a movie over making the gameplay capabilities the best it can be (minus traversal - we all know that's mostly polished). And furthermore, storytelling can be told through gameplay, not just cutscenes. If they wanted to, they could've prioritized gameplay a little bit more than the visual "spectacle". I mean even the Lizard chase or Coney Island Rollercoaster sequences - as flashy as they are - are little more than a Quick-Time Event or dodge-fest. There's really not a ton of actual gameplay happening there, but it's pretty to look at. If that's the type of game you prefer, or that Insomniac preferred to make, that's fine I suppose. It is subjective to each person. But let's not pretend they couldn't have implemented way more depth to the Black Suit gameplay. They absolutely could have if they would've balanced their priorities.

That ability, plus the different animations, contributes to the **feel** of the game. It contributes to the **experience** and the *immersion*. To me that is all part of the gameplay; our sensory connection to what's happening on screen. Perhaps the word that better fits what I mean rather than just "gameplay" is the word "immersion". And changing/customizing cosmetics adds to my experience of a game. It involves me in the game by affording me *choice*. A small aspect, sure, but again (subjective to the type of player), to me it's a feature that adds to my experience.

it was a good game no doubt. buuuut therr are a lot of BUTS. 1. MJ seemed to have the best "upgrades" takes her 1 sec to defeat hunters etc. while spiderMEN need at least 4 air hits or 5-6 on ground. Make it make sense 2. MJ also gets "upgrade" to instantly "heal", while again, the spiderMEN need to apply "tough love" to "heal". Why not just equip the spidermen with that upgrade in their webs? And for that matter, the WHOLE police force? Make it make sense 3. we spend 10 mins and several rounds beating a "boss", only to get one shot grabbed for sake of the story? How about we forget the fight and just make it an ambush🤷‍♂️, why did i just go out of my way to beat this boss, taking as little damage as possible, using each super ability, just to have it spring up and ragdoll me so i could be "beaten" in the next story clip? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE INSOMNIAC!! The game IS good, story is great. But the above obvious fixes could have been made without adding to the workload of the developers. Now if we added THOSE things..which would consequently THEN put it in GOY category, imo, it would be: 1. add colorwheel so we can customize each suit 2. consequences for not completing certain side missions (i.e. dont help find instruments, no musuem opening and city upset or more violence ensues) 3. rather than unlocking ALL abilities, make the options finite per suit. So we essentially then need to equip proper suit for specific missions etc. (i.e. we went out and started a mission which increases our lightning power, but oops we disregarded the intel and began a mission which would be much easier if stealth we emphasized) i can go on...but these would be the START to getting the game to goy, imo

One of the biggest issues I have with the game industry right is how so much triple a studios make us with around 5 years between titles, once upon a time during the PS2 and even PS3 era it was common for them the likes of Naughty Dog to introduce a new IP near the start of a generation and have a full trilogy by the end, but as the industry strives to make as bigger and bigger worlds with more photo realistic graphics I feel we've reached the law of dimishing returns now... So to have Insomniac release four high quality games within 5 years, reportedly without crunch as well, is fucking astounding! They might honestly by my favourite game studio at this point, I am fiending at the potential of them doing a Daredevil game in their Spider-Man universe (interesting that Kingpin didn't have a cameo in this game... 👀) and man, if anyone studio can bring back Jak & Daxter it's them!

And almost every single crime is a symbiote attack in the post-game gameplay. Only occasionally do you fight Hunters or the Flame Cult but they're usually fighting symbiotes too. I wish I could just stop normal street crimes again after the main story especially since narratively speaking, all the symbiotes in the city should be destroyed after the meteorite got nuked I thought.

It's crazy how well insomniac understands these characters and everything about the game expresses that perfectly. I have no doubts about the wolverine game name and i hope they continue to build their version of the Spider-Man but also Marvel universe because i really don't want the FF, X-men, Defenders, Avengers, etc to just be referenced but never show up. I'm happy we at least got a tiny cameo from wong and dr strange even tho it's not in person but it just really helps with fleshing out that their's a way bigger universe out there than just for Spider-Man

(First of all sorry for my bad english im not a native speaker) Its a big shame. I was firmly convinced that the story would be a masterpiece. Spider-Man 1 made me laugh, gave me goosebumps and made me cry. And Marvels Spider-Man 2? I had no feelings about Spider-Man 2. Not even a facial expression flinched. I really tried to like the story but it just kept getting more and more absurd. 1. Black Suit. I seem to remember that the people at Insomniac said they wanted to do something special with the black suit. But I have to admit that none of this got me. Spider-Man's "dead" wasn't epic or anything. It was clear to everyone that he wasn't going to die anyway. He simply got the suit from Harry while he was about to "die". There were also no cool interactions between Black Suit Peter and Black Cat, Black Suit x Black Cat is just peak fiction. I would also have found a church scene very cool where Peter thinks about what he did so wrong. A epic shot of him. In the rain in the dark, starring at his hands while some epic ass music is playing. But no. We did have a church scene with Kraven, but it wasn't that spectacular. It was just for plot purposes. No other reason. 2. Harry Osborn I barely felt any emotions for Harry. I thought it was really nice how they explained the relationship between Peter and Harry at the beginning of the game. You could understand that they were best friends but the "death" scene of Harry was not good at all. I didn't feel any emotions. To be honest, I didn't even cared if he died or not. Miles even saved him in the end. At the end of the day it was just a reset from the first game. Harry is sick, Norman is desperate only with the difference that all the events with Venom happened. I and many others cried at Aunt May's death scene and I still cry to this day because it was so emotional. The Harry scene was not emotional at all for me. 3. Last Arc. The last Arc has a bitter aftertaste for me. I found it very epic and very over the top on the one hand. It reminded me a lot of Web of Shadows, but that's not a bad thing. I just think it's an exaggeration how we went from "A virus over NYC" to "We're going to take over the world and everyone will be a symbiote" (Regardless. Where are the other superheroes? The Avengers exist, etc. But I'm ignoring the point since it is a Spider-Man game). I think between game 1 and game 2, there could have been another game that was a danger to all of America or other continents. Harry could even have appeared in the game and we would feel a real bond with Harry, which they didn't achieve, at least for me in Marvels Spider-Man 2. Harry's "end" would be much more dramatic because we would have strong bond to know Harry better. What will it look like in the next game? Save not just the world, but the entire galaxy? What I loved so much about Spider-Man 1 was that it was a classic Spider-Man story. The story was realistic. This story was just a fanfiction from a kid, who wtachdd a Web of Shadows Anime Music Video from the 2010s. 4. Post Credit Scene 1/Norman Osborn. Osborn wanted Spider-Man to kill Venom but not Harry. He did exactly what he wanted and Osborn still gets so mad that he goes to Otto (The Otto thing makes no sense btw bc he doesnt even know Miles). I understand that Osborn is angry that his son is sick and injured again. Nevertheless, Peter and Miles did what he wanted. Everyone was ready for Harry to die, it was always mentioned how Harry would die if Venom died too but Peter still wanted to try to save Harry. He and Miles did it. Both of them saved Harry. Norman Osborn asks Otto who the Spider-Men are. I thought Norman Osborn was a smart man. Standing next to Peter is another Spider-Man with African-American hair and a specific hairstyle. Sure they didn't communicate properly, but wouldn't Norman find out in his lifetime that Peter has a friend/teacher who has the same hairstyle as Miles? Later, Mary Jane comes and holds Peter's hand. Yeah Norman didn't see it but like come on. AND YES IMNSONIAC. WE GET IT. OSBORN WEARS GREEN LIKE HOLY WERE NOT BLIND. 5. Miles weird suit. I don't want to talk about how the suit looks like because this is about taste. But does Miles even bother to hide his identity anymore? Why are you showing your hair? You're just making it easier for people to guess who you are. 6. Post Credit Scene 2. I was so excited to see who it was. My guess was Cletus with the twist that maybe they're bringing a version of Cletus who isn't known and every viewer knows that Miles' stepfather or what he would become is a dangerous man who might be Carnage at some point and knows that Miles is Spider-Man. How interesting that would be. Instead we got Cindy Moon as a new character. Regardless of what scandals this figure caused, I think it's a shame that another Spider character is coming. I just hope they completely rewrite her story and it's not some crappy "biological love" story between her and Peter or even Miles. But in the end she might just become a new side character without spider powers. Or she even becomes a good and exciting character. 7. Peter nerf. Brother, you worked as Spider-Man for years. You look like the biggest idiot while the 17 year old can do everything. This is nlt the Peter from Spider-Man 1 that I loved. 8. Venom had thousand ways to kill Peter. He grabs his head and flies somewhere. Why aren't you doing anything? What's with this plot bs? Just end it. Why let him live and throw him away? This is just bad writing. 9. Spider-man quit. I suspected Spider-Man would give up in the end. However, I thought because MJ is pregnant and Spider-Man can't afford to die bc hes gonna have a kid. But no, he just stops. Man this story was bad.Funnily enough, I was worried that the gameplay wouldn't have that much of a difference. The Gameplay was amazing. I loved that 10/10. My least concern was that the story would be so terrible because I saw that they could write the best Spider-Man story. I would say that the story of Marvels Spider-Man 1 is much better than all the Spider-Man films. But that was just disappointing and I was speechless at what rubbish this story was.

I felt the same way. A big problem was that it had to juggle both Peter and Miles' story at the same time which is why it feels disjointed. Peter being the main one that needed more time with things like his relations to Harry and MJ and more time with the Symbiote and Kraven but because Miles also needs time with his B plot of revenge (which has been done to death already like cmon), it comes off as rushed in certain aspects. That and Miles side sucked. It was a retread of his insecurities from SM:Miles Morales which he overcame. And the fact he felt like a failure despite the fact his community and mentor is in full support of him being Spider-Man is stupid. That and Miles was also made like a person who had no faults considering he pretty much solves anything Peter fails which makes his story even more stupid and constantly getting the "We couldn't have done it without you" at every moment they can for him. Really butchered that but other than that, everything else is a fucking 10/10. Even with the story being pretty meh compared to the first game, the setpieces and scenerios is literal peak with the gameplay changes and boss fights and improves the first game in every way.

Heck, they could literally just use the level that’s actually in the game but perhaps have a leaderboard to see who can rank up the best combo or the best time, and may be for completing certain objectives in this map you could get 1 or 2 alternate skins for venom? We probably wouldn’t see something like a carnage skin since they’re clearly hinting that he’ll be a character in the next game, so just like there wasn’t a Symbiot suit in the first Spider-Man PS4 game I’m sure they wouldn’t include Carnage here. But Venom has more than enough. Looks throughout the ages to give him at least a few alternate looks.

My only my minor issue with their version of fall damage is that you can take damage from your own charge jump at standing height.

I really wish new game plus let us use any suit with cutscenes + dark web on any suit. Lol the game cover is spiderman on advanced suit with black web and we can’t use it on the game

I think what they did with venom was really really really cool and hopefully shuts up a lot Web of Shadows fans. Its gone on long enough for them thinking that nothing can top it. I never played WoS but i loved shattered dimensions. I think insomniac wanted to add a 'complete' venom story so they wouldn't have to do another one, this is their definitive venom in their world. I'm strapped to my chair waiting for their next title and trust they will deliver on Goblin.

I didn't even register the "Miles ignores civilian safety for revenge on Mr Negative" scene as anything too significant in the bigger picture. It's just fairly typical to have some flaw like that be the start of an arc, and since they didn't really bring up much of Miles feelings on the matter until then and there, him being suddenly confronted with these feelings in a real scenario and not knowing how to deal with them properly... It felt natural to me. No big deal at all. From what I understand, the fakeout death is just a part of how these games are written. Insomniac KNOWS that the Spider-Man stories and mythos has been told and retold to hell and back and that a ton of people are intimately familiar with how things tend to turn out. Especially the black suit saga. It's been done and redone so much that you can hardly find a fan who doesn't know of 'some' version of the tale. So Insomniac uses all that potent dramatic irony to their advantage and sets up these bombs with the loudest ticking noises imaginable that are also somewhat hard to hear to someone unfamiliar. For example the throwaway line at the beginning of the game where Peter asks if Miles has ever seen him angry is a perfect example. It comes across as casual conversation with little meaning beyond expressing character, but those who know, recognize the setup. They did this song and dance with Doc Ock in the first game, and they did it again with Venom here. Love it. There is a part of me that hopes that Spider-Man 3 tries to do Superior Spider-Man in part, considering Otto's condition... But time will show. Will probably enjoy it anyway.

With the fakeout death my opinion is it wasnt so much about Pete almost dying but showing how powerful the symbiote is agaisnt Kraven Pete almost died after being Spider-Man for around 9ish years now Harry has had the suit for a few days maybe (the agent venom suit that is) Also the Creative Director of the game said in a Spoiler-cast that he didnt want to market the game or the black suit at all because he believed that it would be much better if everyone went in blind
