I think that Octo Expansion was just incredible on your first time playing through it, all the twists and surprises were amazing, but Side Order feels like it keeps a slightly lower, but consistent level of fun, instead of the brilliant first few times of Octo expansion, and then getting a tiny bit old after a while. They are both still brilliant DLCs, just for different reasons in my opinion. Great video by the way, looking forward to the next one🎉

Eh nah. OE is great even after the first play through. The music, challenge, and story is better (also inner agent 3 is 🔥🔥). Side Order was mid. Period. It felt like the whole thing was scrapped and remade at the last second plus the story is weak and feels rushed at the end. The gameplay loop gets incredibly stale after the 2nd play through.

I’m not gonna lie after playing side order I now see that octo expansion have flaws as well. Mainly the bosses are very very lazy Some level is not as fun to replay and the objectives are very basic. I personally stand by my opinion that side order is better than octo expansion but still they both great DLCs. I see side order have best quality in terms of gameplay than octo expansion, with greater complexity.

I think Side Order was easily the worst storymode of all Splatoons. The gameplay gets very repetitive, the characters are empty shells and the story is genuinely boring. Its the fifth final boss fight that follows the same structure, theres no build up and the story being told through the dev diaries was insanely lame. You dont even get a conversation with the people whose soul you free, I think they failed here completely. They could have made the story a mystery where you get new bits of information with every playthrough and after like 5 or so you can make a final run where you beat the story. Marinas octoling friends could have been actual characters and on the first playthrough smollusk reveals that he is not a rogue AI again but specifically designed and we would have to find out who his creator is. Marina, the octos, Acht, maybe TarTar, etc could have been the suspects. Or make this thing about 8 getting their memorys back. Every time you beat the tower you get new agent 8 backstory, this would have given SO some emotional depth.

Bruh I really bought it for the lore concept arts and 2023 trailers really teased a silent, creepy yet exciting atmosphere. I personally thought a really really nasty villain was involved in side order.. it was quite a nothing burger. I liked the final result because of oth and cool gameplay but cmon why did they tease that dlc that way then?

I was expecting a lot from Nintendo for this dlc, since they’ve already made Octo expansion, one of my favorite dlcs to date, and my expectations were definitely met! (Even if the story is pretty copy/paste from all of the other stories in splatoon 😂)

Well, about Agent 4, she is kinda technically there. She has her own pallette and is featured in the Parallel Cannon boss, but I do wish we got to see more of her. I also do hope that when Agent 4 finally does make a significant appearance, she has an actual speaking role. The reason I say this is because 1, I think it's dumb that the previous-protagonists-turned-NPCs are mute, and 2, it just makes more sense based on the very little information we have about her personality. Since Agent 4 is said to love extracurricular activities, it most likely means that she's very extroverted and I've never met an extrovert that simply doesn't talk, because isn't the main point of being an extrovert is that you love socializing and want to talk to everybody? Because of that, I've always headcanoned that Agent 4 talks so much and so fast that everyone around her has to tell her to slow down and calm down. Kinda like Sheldon, honestly Also, if anyone is confused about what I mean when I said Agent 4 is featured in Parallel Cannon, the game goes into your Splatoon 2 save file and places the hairstyle of your Inkling in that game into here. If you don't have a S2 save file, then it just defaults to the short female hairstyle that Agent 4 has in the trailers and promotional art

Something I find a bit strange is that Side Order's plot is all just about Marina. Like you take her off the equation, and theres nothing to do. Marina made the memverse. Marina made Pearl into a drone. Atch is there cuz of Marina. There woudnt be no plot or conflict. Is not very well written imo.

Side Order is not awful or boring. It has its fun. But there are 2 major flaws that just smear it too much. No Agent 4. Sorry, parallel cannon and the little text we got are not enough. Going for all chip color badges is misery. If you are going for them, you know what Im talking about.

Never played a roguelike before this… stressed me out so hard idk if I can say I liked it… I’ve cleared every palette and it’s definitely better to replay it now that there’s less stress, but it was such a horrible feeling to lose before that idk if I can say it’s worth it.

The palete for the begining of the game load screen is based off of the plaza you last saved in. Maybe that carrys over to the load icon?

Imo this dlc was lacking in content... not worth $30. And the fact that there's significantly more post game content than main game content is just sad. It's also way too easy and way too short and the way it's structured is kinda dumb. Would not recommend this dlc

I’m not sure this is the first time I can say splatoon single player have been advanced. Side order was very satisfying in terms of new content with jelletons that’s is not reusing enemies like in octo expansion and bosses that is not a fucking reskin. At first I liked Octo Expansion when it came out, but over time people overhyped it to the point I liked the DLC less and less. I still like OE, but not as much as I use too. The moment I first played Side Order, I thought it was ok. Not amazing, but not awful. The one thing SD has over OE is the Pearlie drone.

About Acht, though- first of all- they aren't female, and are only referred to in-game and on Splatoon's official posts as they/them. Secondly, they had a lot of character, be it in dialogue or unlocked diary entries, but I agree there wasn't enough.
