The level of dedication breathes in every pore of this video. Both the analysis and the editing is fantastic and something worthy for Yume Nikki. Gives me nostalgia of your first video on Yume Nikki and is a huge contrast as well of how you approached the video back then

I found your channel many years ago because of Yume Nikki. I was part of the 2012 gang who was obsessed with RPG Horror Games like Ib, Mad Father, Mogeko Castle, Yume Nikki and I barely saw any discussion about it outside of forums (and tumblr blogs) so I came to your channel for Yume Nikki and stayed for everything else. Seeing this video on my notifications gave me the biggest smile ever. Thank you for the years and years of videos!

Oh my god. This channel introduced me to yume nikki. It became my special interest, and inspired a lot of my art and ideas, as well as introducing me to lucid dreaming. I eventually came across yno. I felt really welcome there, and even ended up making some badges for there. It really feels like a community, and I'm thankful for that. This game had a huge impact on me. Thank you, James

Every time Yume Nikki comes up, I feel like it’s important to recognize the impact of RPG Maker. It gave (and continues to give) so many people the opportunity to create sureal, spooky, and even emotional video game experiences that would’ve been difficult to create without the program.

I tried playing yume nikki in highschool but something that most videos on it never seem to talk about is how incredibly sparse it is. In my playsessions I'd usually spend most of my time walking around systematically checking if I couldn't find anything that I missed or just didn't appear on my screen. It kind of is like a dream in that way. You may end up dreaming about something wild or you might just endlessly walk in a snowfield looking at the same 3 iglos. The average player is never even going to see all the coolest dreamscapes and honestly that's kind of fun? Something experiencing the game via youtube video or wiki wouldn't tell you at least

What I love about this channel is how it honors old games along with celebrating new ones. I've some newer youtubers play old rpg games and just rag on them. Like say the plot wasn't done well or just say the tropes are overdone. When often these games were made Before these tropes were ripped to bits. Or it seems they set the game up to fail expecting something like mad father or undertale. When often these games are more like small snapshots of feelings or pieces of time. I really appreciate content creators who take the time to show love to these small games😌 💕

Those are the controls because this game was made with the number pad in mind! if you look at the number pad on your keyboard you'll probably see arrows on 4, 8, 6 and 2, they of course work as directional keys. 1, 3, 5 and 9 to control the effects makes WAY more sense if you use the number pad, it would be really convenient if you played the game that way.

AHAHHA re: the toriningen in the candle world, i remember being a kid and stabbing a toriningen just for fun, and i think i was showing the game to a friend at the time so i went into the candle world and stopped right after entering to explain some stuff to my friend and i'll never forget the jumpscare i had when the toriningen rushed onscreen to grab me. it was so scary because i didn't realize they have no cones of vision or anything, if you're in the same room as one it will know exactly where you are no matter what. it's still one of my most memorable experiences with yume nikki after almost 10 years of playing it

You know, way back when, I found a WIP project that ported Yume Nikki to 3D, in the build engine. And I let's played it. It was a really strange experience even doing a let's play with commentary, while exploring the curious landscapes and seeing how much of the game was in there. It was super cool. But yeah, I privated those videos now, so... I doubt anyone but me would even remember I ever did it. Just like a dream, all that remains is a foggy memory.

Re: original game not on Switch you gotta remember that Yume Nikki was made in RPG Maker 2003, while a game like Omori was made in MV porting the RM2003 Yume Nikki would likely need a compatibility/emulation layer like EasyRPG for it to even be possible, since MV games are built off of javascript and are basically just specialized offline browser windows while RM2003 could barely handle image assets being too big or having transparency in the file itself.

I think I know why this game's creator never talks online. I had an experience showing my artwork in university. We were supposed to write comments on a paper in front of each piece about what we thought about it. Every comment had a completely different idea of what my piece meant or represented. Reading it made me feel incredibly depressed and misunderstood, and I've never made a single piece of artworks since then.

I’ve always loved how casual and grounded ur videos feel, this one in particular really stood out to me in that way. It’s so relaxing to just kinda listen to u ramble about whatever part of a game u like no matter how small and insignificant of a detail it is. just kinda sayin stuff, just talkin, just going over everything, saying what u think then going and talkin bout some new other new thing. It’s kind of how I want my videos to feel, just some stream of consciousness that doesn’t try to be super formal and just says everything exactly how I feel it, just how I’d say it during a conversation with a friend or something, but everything I say still has weight to it and can mean something and be emotional and get across that something means something to me. I have no idea if u intentionally go for that or if I’m just talking out of my ass but it’s part of the reason you’ve stuck with me for so long even though I’ve kind of grown out of similar channels to you. Initially you were kind of what inspired me to make videos in the first place back when I wanted to make silly jokey whatever game reviews and now as I’ve grown and what I want has changed it hasn’t really affected how I view ur videos cuz you’ve also changed and started making more real down to earth shit that my present self can find a lot more in. Ty for inspiring me Mr James Nitrus Rad and my apologies if this comment is just completely incoherent and stupid. NITRO NATION ON TOP 🔥🔥🔥

Yume nikki really influenced my life. The first time I heard about the game was when I was watching a german youtuber called iBlali. He talked about the game because of his youtube format creeps where he talked about creepy things and eastereggs in videogames. I wanted to know more about the game and so I stumbled upon your youtube channel. And thanks to that I now have played a lot of different RPG Maker games with Oneshot beeing my favourite and recently Crow Country which I really enjoy so far.

This is just a personal experience but the block world always reminded me of an elementary school math textbook I used to have where there were a lot of isometric shaped blocks in an empty background in the cover which I always imagined myself entering, kinda like a liminal space but that concept didnt exist back there haha. So the block world in yume nikki always had that additional dimention of nostalgia and eeriness to me

The speed glitch is just a oversight of speed settings, the bicycle sets your speed to a certain speed, while the chair adjust it. Think of your default speed as 2, the Bicycle sets your speed to 3, but when you get in the chair, the game instead of setting your speed to 1, it actually lowers it by 1, and when you get out, raises it by 1. So when you sit in it, your speed (2) gets slower (-1), and then when you use the bicycle while still sitting in the chair, it gets changed to (3) as intended, but you’re still in the chair, so when you get out of the chair, it gives you (+1) making your speed 4, which is faster than the bicycle.
