I love how Frieren shows her emotions indirectly. We rarely see emotion on her face, but we know that she was PISSED at the Einsam for trying to use Himmel against her, because she charged up a full blast and leveled an entire section of the forest. She may not have even consciously realized how angry she was in that moment.

I love that Frieren's memories of Himmel do not contain even the slightest possibility that he would try to fool her. He's The Hero even when he's just an illusion created by a ravenous monster.

The interesting thing about the Fern and Heiter illusion scene is that despite being fully aware of what it is, she still couldn't do it. That's the real power of such magic. Just knowing what you're facing isn't even enough. Every other victim of that Eisam was also aware that they were seeing a loved one who was already dead. And yet it worked every time.
@AzriellaVeRaon26 күн бұрын
Watched this show with my mother (shes an o.g. anime fan so its easy to get her into new anime) and during this episode I asked her if she would be able to shoot the illusion if it showed her a deceased loved one, in this case my late father. She said she honestly was unsure. It's so understandable to Fern to react the way she did. I think I would hesitate too.

It's that thing where whenever we say "people" and "person" in real life, we're only talking about "humans" so the Japanese language runs into weird little bumps when dealing with fantasy races. In Reincarnated as a Slime whenever Rimuru says "my life" the word "jinsei" has "jin" in it, referring to humans (human life, the life a person experiences), so he always changes it to "slime-sei" which the subs put as "slife". The word "jin" is in "jinrui" too, meaning "mankind/humanity".

Himmel was such a hero that not even an illusion meant to deceive could do anything to hurt Frieren. Also, looking at the size of that mana shot Frieren was kind of angry that the Eisen dared to use Himmel.

"Do you think Himmel was romantically interested in Frieren?" Meanwhile Himmel wanting to end a child life because he saw what he wanted to see under Frieren's skirt. xD I mean, since that momment i was pretty sure that Himmel was really into Frieren not to say that he was and old man without a family so... yeah, i think he was pretty loyal to what he wanted. When they say humans it also includes Frieren. 'Humans' is used to describe any person that is not a demon or animal or monster. Loving this reactions.

2:38 "That one one-hundredth changed you." I find it ever so beautiful that Frieren's two remaining companions, after hearing her despair over Himmel's death in regret, spent the rest of their lives taking steps to pave Frieren's way to getting another chance at committing to a 10-year journey with companions with whom she can attempt bonding: - Eisen heard about Flamme's heaven notes and told Heiter. - Heiter spends years researching the location of Flamme's notes. - Heiter tells Eisen about the notes' location. - Heiter adopts Fern and uses his deathbed favor to convince Frieren to train & adopt Fern as well (giving her a companion). - Eisen then uses HIS deathbed favor (which they both know Frieren will eventually come to learn & fulfill) to convince Frieren to journey to heaven for HER own sake, to talk to Himmel again. So not only did they both spend their deathbed favors to help her heal over her regrets over Himmel, but they also did it to construct for her yet another opportunity to practice developing bonds with humans via a fresh 10-year journey with new companions: it's truly the ultimate love letter for a life-long friend. 6:40 "Why were you accustomed to your master begging for her life?" It's a joke that, just as Frieren is scared of a mad Fern, Flamme would sometimes get scared of a mad Frieren, but rather than cowering in fear or acting reserved, Flamme's response was to beg for her life (haha).

I don't think the Phantom are able to control the illusion. I like to think that it just used its victim’s memory to create it, resulting in Himmel telling Frieren to shoot and Heiter nodding at Fern as she is about to shoot as well.

If Tolkien hadn't written LOTR Frieren almost certainly wouldn't exist. He literally built the genre and made elves something serious instead of children's fairy tale things.
