I think the caveat in the comparison you are forgetting is that most people with a 9-5 job have a skill set. This means IF they get fired they also can find another similar job. Turo on the other hand does not have real competition yet. So if they decide to flip their model you can't just go get the same volume of customers on your own. So there is no need to fully depend on turo until you have a way to leverage your fleet if things were to change dramatically is her point.

They are never all parked - the only time I ever had all my cars parked at 1 time was for 2 weeks during lockdown last year, other than I have never seen my cars all at once. The funny thing when I think about it is that most 9-5 people have a similar issue with their income strategy. All the eggs are in one basket investments are in the company they work for and if things go belly up or something like COVID causes their stock to devalue which in turn prompts massive layoffs to scale down to adjust to demand they're pretty much screwed. Long story short I think you're preaching a very valuable lesson here which is to diversify and make sure you have multiple streams of income or you'll always have that worry in the back of your mind. Love it!

Take the margins from Turo and push to dividend stocks to have real passive income with compounding. Borrow against you investments to grow an avoid heavy tax penalties. No more worries about cars :) Great content.

I've had up to 11 cars with them. The margins were already thin before their changes. Now with their policy changes, its' almost assured that I'll lose money on any additional cars. It's clear they shifted their focus on attracting new hosts to maximizing their cash flows. They used to be a great platform to make a bit of side cash, but now it's become just a place to possibly defray cost of car ownership, given that any damage to your car(s) will be covered by insurance, but in the last couple of years, it's also become clear that Turo's insurance provider looks for any reason to reject damage claims.

In a true rental business, Turo should only acts as a broker between renter and hosts. The hosts can determine who/when they wish to rent to and no restriction on how to engage the renter. Instead Turo decides how you should provide your personal assets at their terms. That is NOT a business. You are giving your personal assets and hard work for free for a meager amount of money and expose all of the risks and they have no risk at all.

Hi Aubrey, 35K Early on with your channel, you had me tossing Turo possibility around with some of my family. I have not given up on the idea, or similar, or some ways to kind of copy the business model of Turo, not as a competitor, but just internal business models. As for Turo being viable here in CT, I still don't know, given many parameters we've reviewed back then, like seasonal restrictions or interference; local laws and overall location advantages/disadvantages. And without saying business savvy and finances. This your second that I recall addressing Turo "policy" shifts or updates really at first glance seem to suggest the deck is stacked against Turo Hosts. So for me, IDK but lean against. Much of that is my ignorance's and to some point my other interests. What I find really inspiriting is that you are still keeping Turo as a major income stream ($six figures and looking to double) with all the Turo policy changes. I note you are not doing so blindly, and are committing yourself to ongoing reviews. But you still see not just continued opportunity, but well planned, cautious yet aggressive growth opportunities. Thank you for the kind comment Bill! I think starting a Turo fleet can be a great idea, but I do agree that it's only a good idea if you are really only interested in learning all the ins and outs. I have an advantage because I've been with Turo for so long that I have been able to learn as I go along with these policy shifts. I think going with a business model similar to Turo could be a great idea - I personally think Peer to Peer lending (whether it be cars, houses...etc) is here to stay!

Did Turo for 2.3 years 1000+ trips and recently stopped. Had 20 cars, Cruze, Corolla, Prius, Focus, Uplander, and Chevy Volt. 2009-2013 year. Overall rating 4.78/5. I will tell you one short thing, DO NOT DO IT. This is my model, someone else may have other numbers. So lets say you make $750/car pr month, (25days rented/30). (from turo website). Turo cut is lets say 30% (40% on higher tier). So lets go with 70% revenue left, right off the bat you have $560. Cool right? Ok lets move on. 1. Sales and Waste tax: (Illegal?) You do not pay sales tax/ waste tax, you will be liable for any state taxes. (unlike airbnb collecting for hosts. Basically you are operating an illegal business for TURO to make money. If you do decide to pay sales tax it will run 8-10% based on state(~55$/car/mth). If you pay waste tax (which is obligatory for rental car companies there is an additional 8-10% or 2$/day (~60$/car/mth) according to the Florida Revenue website. 2. You will spend 10-15% of your revenue in insurance (70$/car/mth). Are you still here? 3. You will spend around 200$ on each car tires every single year, disregard patches, plugs and repairs.(~20/mth/car 4. You will spend EASY 10-15% of your overall revenue on (car repairs, meintenance, oil change, filter change, wiper fluid, scents etc) at a cheap mechanic, one car may need little, the other may need transmission replacement, guaranteed. ($75/car/mth) 5. Your guest has minor scratch, chip, dent. You have $250 deductable, turo made this on purpose so all small damages you are basically F*ckked and have to pay for them yourself. They will say, your damage is $256, but because your deductable, we can issue you $6 LOL. 6. Your car is at the mechanic you are getting $0, time waste. 7. You will find your car dirty and will spend a lot of time cleaning them, washing them and preparing them for new guests all the time. All this despite the remote check in process (if you paid for one, another expense) 8. Turo claims all the time to be a mobile platform only, meaning anything beyond that you are responsible if you get caught in any of wrong doing or god forbid someone dies in your car. You will be on your OWN!! 9. Depreciation: Your car will add around 20.000-30.000 miles pr year if it gets rented all the time. I can tell you that you will have less value in your car whatever you paid for it. So that is an easy 20% loss overall in money or more when the car is actually sold. 10. THis is not a sales pitch, i am not telling you avoid TURO and DO this instead. i am not selling you anything. I am not frustrated, i am simply showing number by number what this business is. I have told even Turo execs the same thing. The concept is great, the model is crap and WILL FAIL.

The biggest risk is an accident. My first guest had an accident when returning the car on my first trip. It has been passed a week, the insurance company still hasn’t contacted me. My car is still parking in the repair shop. I missed at least 3 trips and I couldn’t drive my vehicle either.

I am also a host and I only have less than 10 cars but all high-end cars making 4 figures a month after expenses which I assumed is equivalent to 10 or more lower-end cars.

Turo is is not a viable replacement for you 9 to 5 income. Its only worth it as a side justle if you work a minimum wage job, and have a car you can rent. Do yourself a favor and invest into yourself and an actual job with growth potential. Prognosis for Turo: Competition will increase further, prices will decreases, fees will keep increasing (IF turo doesn't go out of business). Causing you to work for minimal wage, with a lot of headaches.

We don't need Turo to rent cars out, just use renters' personal insurance, they will cover your car much better and you get 100% of the money. Good luck getting your car fixed by Turo if a major accident happens. My Daughters Tesla has been in the shop since September 2020 and Turo is trying to find ways not to pay for it while I still have to pay $700 a month

I did Turo in Sept 2021 in Montreal, at the first guest first trip, have a accident, the damage over $5000 CAD. It passed weeks, I still waiting the insurace response me. I lost at least 3 guests, cannot use my car either.

Typically Turo is, you can handle it on your end and then send the invoice to Turo but for the most part Turo will arrange the tow in the case of a total loss.

Aubrey, I quite Turo 3 years ago (back 4 years ago they gave a bonus to hosts) I had 7 Kia's and Hyundai's. I had it all: Stolen car, wrecked car, 1600$ in speeding tickets (4×400$), rental person got busted in my car so police hold my car for a 6 month until the guy come out of jail (LOL). Rentals swap my engine on seized engine during rental (1500$ out of pocket Mechanical issues not covered), one guy was drank and put in reverse while going 70mph (transmission replacement 1000$ out of pocket Mechanical issues not covered) Thanks God I was renting out 500$-1000$ straight own Kia's and Hyundai's so it was not end of the world to lose a car. But in your case it just not worth it.

How did you add more cars to the fleet. I imagine that you can’t be buying/leasing cars constantly due to the hard pulls on your personal credit inquiries. Did you have to use an LLC with its business credit line to do so?

Hey there thank you for the video, I just subscribed, I’m thinking about buying a car to rent out on Turo, it won’t be my own car, I live near the airport, can do airport drop offs, I work on my own cars, I’m well aware of the overhead. I’m just wondering in your opinion how accurate the Turo calculator is, for example I am thinking of buying a Fiat 500 to rent in San Diego where I live, Turo says it could possibly be rented on average 22 days per month, my net would be 484, daily price of 32, and my daily earnings $22, based on what you make on your make and model cars is the Calculator. accurate, thank you

In my opinion no. I think the number of trips is close but the price needs to be looked at depending on demand. What I do is look at the number of reservations of each car in the area and look at their prices.

see what the demand is in your area by looking at the Turo page in Charlotte - i am not familiar enough with the market to say yes or no, but looking to see how many reviews cars have is a good indicator
