I have had both a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II and the Sony GM 70-200 2.8 and love them both. I am used to shooting with them both and have shot sports tournaments before where I would shoot for 10-12 hours a day for 3 continuous days with a 70-200 on a body with a battery grip. You get used to the weight over time. I have handheld the Canon 600mm f4 lens for an Air Show before. That lens is an absolute beast and my arms were killing me at the end of the day, but I was able to get shots by handholding that those using a tripod couldn't catch due to the action being too fast.

Pierre, great video as always. Totally with you on the 70-200 for street (and for landscape also), people always assume that wider angle is better, but with wider angle you get one shot of a scene, whereas with 70-200 you can get multiple vignettes of the same scene. A place for both (if your arms can cope with carrying the 'holy trinity' of f2.8 lenses😂)

I have used my 80-200mm f/2.8 - great for candid street photography. I've also used a 105mm and a 180mm, both f/2.8. The primes narrow your perspective, if you want to get more or less in the photo, obviously you have to move, moving is good.

tips from a guys that shoots 150-500mm in an APS-C with a 2x TC: fill up your frame with the subject. you are carrying that weight for the closeup power of it. so zoom it in. the cityscape is secondary. focus on people, feelings, actions, poses. get things that other lenses can't show.

Without having watched your video, let me answer your title question in a special way: I took my best street fotos with a Nikon D810 and a Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 Sports. AF was lightning fast, perspectives incredible, and pictures tack sharp. By using it with a riffle-belt type of strap mounted on the lens, I could walk with it for hours and getting it up in less than a sec for the shot. Ony one disadvantage which was funny sometimes: wherever I showed up people where starring at me and then searching for the celebrities they suspected me to hunt down with this monster of a setup. And, groups of young ladies out for some fun, threw themselves into posing assuming I was shooting for a magazine or doing model scouting.

The 24-70 is probably the best option. I've shot with a 70-200, a 50, and 35mm. I find that there's a disadvantage when you start off at 70mm. I find myself always being too close for a shot, being that your eye sees at about 30 to 35mm. That's going to be my next lens for sure.

I very rarely go below 70. If i do i want a 15mm. The perfect setup for me would be 15mm, 85mm, 135mm. And a 200-600mm if i did wildlife.

I've been shooting nyc for a while now.. but only very recently picked up a 70-200/4. Oh man, it's a BLAST. I'd been using much shorter lenses prior. The 70-200 feels like a cheat code. The entire city is just an endless spread of microcompositions, and now I can just grab whatever I want. It's also awesome because people here often don't care what anyone is up to. They'll absolutely ignore a Volvo sized lens ha.

I also use the 12-40 (24-80) and 7-14 (14-28). I find using tele’s more advantageous for getting closer or backing up…which helps me out a lot composing my shots…take care, stay safe and stay healthy.

Have a 70-200 2.8 but I just bought (last Friday) a 70-200 4L without IS. The idea is to be able to move more easily with lighter gear in broad daylight (to be able to shoot high speed to compensate for the lack of IS). Shot some polo and golf pictures and it was amazing to have gear you can carry around without hurting your back. Not really street photography but fun nonetheless.

I don't care what lens is on my camera when I go out shooting. My 70-200 mm F 2.8 is a should strap-pack away. I try to start off with a 50 mm or 24-105 mm, because I know once the 70-200 mm goes on... that's a wrap. Will not be changing anymore for that day. The funny thing is that when I have it on my 7D Mark ii, and battery-grip, the weight is so well balanced that I can carry it all day without any problem. And knowing the look on the face of anyone whom tries to grab it and see that weight take them to ground. Just enough time for me to pounce!

super important , 70-200 is incredible on full frame , on a aps-c you'll get around 100-300mm it's also amazing but i'm a huge lover of the 85mm so it's kinda sad :D
@Seitenwerk
@Seitenwerk 3 жыл бұрын
You still get a 70-200 on crop sensors, but it’s a cropped image.just as an important note because many mistake the crop factor as having effects on the actual lens behavior like compression etc
@kannonfps
@kannonfps 3 жыл бұрын
@@Seitenwerk you do understand that a 35 on a crop sensor will give you the same "field of view" as a 50 on a full frame right ? that's why we use the crop factor, the result you'll get from a 85mm on a crop and the result your'll get on a full frame are not the same you just have to test it yourself take a full frame and a 50 and take a crop and use a 35 apart from distortion and compression the field of view won't change and that's why we use the crop factor to know which lens to use to get certain result but yeah a 35mm stay a 35mm it's just that the sensor cannot render as much info as a full frame

I recently got the Canon III 70-200 and plan on taking it to India for an extensive 2 month tour of Rajasthan and Gujrat. I also am taking a 50 and an 85. Im excited to shoot with the 70-200 and am curious how it will be shooting street portraits, which is the majority of what I shoot. I also have a wide angle for landscapes and buildings. I have been to India a number of times and have also found that people love having their photo taken, so Im hoping the 70-200 doesnt scare them or intimidate them.

I have that lens and use a vest mount to carry and use it, very comfy and secure,! if you wear a large jacket you can just zip it up and no one is any the wiser, the lens is quite compact if you can use it without the ridiculous hood. I'm working on a pop out/ pop on silicon version to see if it makes life easier.

@@Pierretlambert Hi Pierre, well my new hood works just fine, I ordered a silicon pop up dogs drinking bowl from eBay just £2 and used a core cutter drill to cut a 78mm hole in the centre of the bottom this slips over my UV filter ring and grips tight, I can send photos if you let me have your address👍Keep making the great Sony videos they are so helpful 👏👏

Laughed about the mugging comment, because it’s true! I know all of those places you shot this, very well; and until recently we didn’t have to worry about that problem but these days I keep my 70-200 in a backpack until I get where I’m going. Maybe I’ll head down there and shoot with that 3 1/2 pound beast on the street, the next time I’m down at my old haunt at Jackson and LaSalle...

I bought the 100-400 which is a little lighter, though, you need the battery grip to handle it better , without it is quite difficult.

Hi Pierre from Paris. I shot street photographie a couple of time with a Panasonic G9 and a 75 f:1,8 Olympus (150mm equivalent) and it's pretty pleasant. But usually I use a 50mm, the perfect focal distance for me.
