For the record: Subaru is not the Sin Archbishop of Pride. His power (Return by Death) is an Authority and his Witch Factor gives him the same amount of miasma as a Sin Archbishop. The Witch Cult has six seats for the seven deadly sins that exclude Envy, so they automatically assume that he is Pride; due to this, he is officially made the Sin Archbishop of Pride in Ayamatsu/Pride If, however he does not actually possess the Witch Factor of Pride, and he will not join the Witch Cult in the main story.

The truth is the seat is currently empty, and we dont know who currently has the authority. We do know the previous owner and Sin-Archbisop, his name was Stride Vollachia, and he died 50 years before the events of Arc 1. We don't know exactly how his authority worked, as it was never revealed, but he was pretty op, although he is not a fighter. (Due to being sickly all his life.) He was eaten by his own dragon while fighting a young Wilhelm Astrea, which the dragon was then vaporized by the Divine Dragon Volcanica. We dont know what happened to his Authority (if it even survived Volcanica's attack, or still exists) But there are several theories on who may possess it, such as Al. Fun fact: the eight-armed witch cultist Wilhelm and Garfiel fight in Arc 5 (season 3) is Kurgan, who used to be Stride's bodyguard, and battled Wilhelm in the past.

Subaru is 100% the Sin Archbishop of Pride. The only issue is that he isn’t institutionalized into the cult’s agenda. But he has a sin authority like all the other archbishops, that being his return by death. It comes from a witch just like the others so it’s different from Al’s respawn ability. Plus he can obtain other’s authorities by killing them like what he did with sloth. Which i believe is cause there always has to be an archbishop but after meeting the other witches they all acknowledged him and therefore chose him as the replacement once the old ones are liked by him. Even if Subaru had the Pride Witch Factor, he wouldn’t be the Sin Archbishop of Pride, as that is a title implying membership in the cult. At worst, he’d be labelled as the Warlock of Pride. And the fact that Subaru manages to snatch the seat of Pride in the Pride IF really does confirm that the seat was empty before Subaru got involved. Which implies that the cult doesn’t have control of the Pride Witch Factor. It is either sealed away like the Sloth Witch Factor before Guese came along (unlikely, as there used to be a Pride before Wilhelm killed him), or there’s someone out there with the Pride Witch Factor who wants nothing to do with the cult.

No subaru never once possessed the authority of pride meaning hes not the archbishop of pride canonically all authorites all sin archbishops possess are essentially powers given to them by the original authority of that witch such as minerva having been the witch of wrath the authority that sirius possesses is the authority she obtained by an unknown unstated way from minerva or she just happen to come by it after it left minerva since essentially all authorities have an innate will of their own same way both sloth and greed willing latched their way onto subaru making him obtain both sloth and pride authorities which technically speaking holding multiple authorities isnt necessarily possible it was even stated only envy was able to absorb and devour all other witches which effectively allowed her obtain to obtain their authorities which portions of some and the entirety of others were scattered across the world aka how the sin archbishops were born to begin with and as literally no other sin archbishop or witch is able to absorb all other authorities and witches that must make it an innate ability of envy to allow that to be possible and as Subaru is able to absorb other authorities and as he directly(not physically but spiritually when he was being isekaied) got his authority from satella and the witch of envy since they both love him in some way(same person 2 different personalities that coexist in the same body) that essentially makes him outside of the witches cult system of sin archbishops to begin with instead it makes him the sin archbishop of envy since he got his power from satella and the witch of envy it means they gave him a portion of their witch factor which allowed this ability he possesses to be possible also makes sense for her to be able to directly touch his heart.
