On board computers, nah . Yeah, it's nice when it works . Only electronics I'm forced to have are abs shut off, and fuel injection keep the other crap . I don't need heated crap just to jack up a price and really I don't need abs as well . Motor, frame and all the other little things that holds this stuff together that we call a bike is all what is needed. Keep the tech and put a suspension on it for crying out loud ....

The most important feature for any adventure bike - large or small - is going to be range. Current range on a DR-Z400 is about 120 miles. That's running it all the way to empty. With EFI, that could increase to about 150 miles. EFI would require a fuel pump. If Suzuki chooses to put the fuel pump and filter in the tank, this would be a good opportunity for them to increase capacity. If not, aftermarket tanks like the large Safari tank could extend the range of the DR-Z400 to over 400 miles without modification.
@Captndarty3 ай бұрын
That’s because the DRZ-400 is not an adventure bike. It’s a dual sport. Ride it how you’d like but this design was to legally go from single track to single track via the road with blinkers and license plate.

I wish more volume between my knees while standing on the pegs!
@rosslangerak83613 ай бұрын
@@Captndarty I'm not sure what your objection is. Do you think that 400cc motor is too small for an adventure? Is the DR-Z400 too capable on dirt roads to be an adventure bike? With an alteration to the gearing, that 400cc motor is quite capable on the highway. Add a larger tank for range and it's beginning to look like an adventure bike. I don't know about you, but I'm going to take it on an adventure. About a decade ago, a couple from New York rode DR-Z400s around the Western US two weeks at a time. They would ride for two weeks, put the bikes in storage, fly home, and return six months later to continue. They did this for several years. I would describe that as an adventure. Noraly Schoenmaker, AKA Itchy Boots, has been riding around the world, most recently on a Honda CRF300L Rally. I would describe what she is doing as adventure.
@nickclarkuk3 ай бұрын
The most important feature of any dual sport is weight or lack of it. A larger tank increases weight and puts it up high where you don’t want it. Ideally this will be like a CRF450L but with sensible service intervals and a less stressed motor .
@rosslangerak83613 ай бұрын
@@nickclarkuk If all you want to do is ride local trails, the stock tank is fine, though the 320 lb DR-Z400 is already considered overweight by many dual sport riders. If you want to ride long distances and explore new places, you can take advantage of that 400cc motor and give it some range. I had a DR-Z400S with a 7 gallon Safari tank, giving it over 350 miles range. I would make that mod again. The Safari tank is heavier than the stock tank, but I didn't find it a problem. Fuel burns off going to a destination, and if you don't think you need the fuel, don't fill the tank. Considering the weight allowances you make with a large adventure bike, a DRZ with a large tank is a bargain. I took that DR-Z through Washington into Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, California. That Safari tank was indispensable.

As an owner of a drz, I'm excited yet cautious for something updated with EFI. On one hand EFI can be great because it's less to deal with when it's hot or cold or higher elevation, or if it's been sitting a while. On the other hand, if they don't use an EFI system that's already proven to be reliable it'll put some people off. I've had my bike for almost 3 years and I absolutely love the way it runs currently. I don't even really want a large change to the gearbox, maybe drop 1st gear about 3%, keep 2nd where it is and go up with 3, 4, and 5 about 3-5%. Go outside that and it'll probably change how it performs enough that it may not be fun anymore. Lastly, I know I won't be able to afford it for a long time if it ends up being a great model to buy.

I think I will buy the ducati hypermotard in 2 year. In 2025 year I will buy a suzuki gsxr1000r. For the past 3 year I been buying a new bike every year. This year was a yamaha r3. I need a bigger garage.

I really REALLY hope they dont ruin the suspension or durability. The drz is the last cheap dual sport that comes with decent suspension and doesn't break something every time you drop it (provided you add case savers)

Tackling the 400 instead of the 650 for a single cylinder in these new emission regulations definitely seems like the move, I’d doubt the 650 will ever get updated in the single cylinder format

something to hope for! But i don't think the 5-speed spread can be stretched. I have standard gearing and when it gets steep like street mountain passes, the step between 4th and 5th gets quite long. And then in really steep rocky stuff, 1st feels long. I think the Engine would need quite a bit more torque to manage stretching that out.

If sticking with s 5-gear box, will it be simple enough to just make the transmission wider ratio for improved slow speed and highway riding? Maybe add a CUSH drive?
@TommyNitro3 ай бұрын
Part of the gearbox differences has to do with the ratios. A proper spread with only 5 gears is fine if the bike has the torque. 6 speeds is nice if the bike doesn't have the torque and can help keep RPMs up.

I, too, hope they stick to the original design. It is a comfortable bike.

Hmmm . I better hold off on a smaller Dual Sport ADV bike that's easier to load in my truck than my Tenere 700 that I barely have time to ride . A bigger tank would be nice and a bit lower seat height with 5 extra hp would be golden .
@jakeviolet21953 ай бұрын
I'm gonna need more than EFI to buy another DRZ. The fueling was never a big issue on that bike. The problem was the lack of power, the 5 speed gearbox and the clunky suspension. Give it a 10 horsepower boost (if every cheap single coming out of India and China makes 40-45 hp, Suzuki should have no problem doing the same.) Modern suspension with inverted forks and a six speed and I'm all over it. Don't care about ABS, but if it's necessary to placate the nanny state, then OK.

I don't understand why they wouldn't just use the RMX450Z platform...
@KentwoodWarrior3 ай бұрын
Cause that’s a race motor
@johnclowes35023 ай бұрын
It's a lot easier to reduce d motor power than create it. The RMC is basically the same motor.. just add crank weight and a 6th gear.. cylinder design is basically the same.
@jakeviolet21953 ай бұрын
@johnclowes3502: Honda tried that with the CRF450RL and failed. A reliable dual sport needs higher oil capacity, lower compression and longer wearing parts. It's not just a matter of nerfing an MX bike to make it into a dual sport. At least not a dual sport like the DRZ, which can be used for adventuring, commuting, offroading or whatever you want to throw at it.
@johnclowes35023 ай бұрын
@@jakeviolet2195 but we can't just keep rehashing the same.tbinh and then ask more for it.. and that's what they'll keep doing. The DRz is a dated bike. Its the same as the DR650.. People keep saying evolve the bike but then complain when it's not the same. The RMX460Z is a good platform that will not require very expensive retooling. The DRZ will take an expensive rework to make it a better bike.

@maze7_73 ай бұрын
Guys, don't get your hopes up. We already know that companies/governments won't let us have what we want. The engine will probably be a street bike engine. The suspensions won't be tunable. ABS will be ON everytime you turn on the bike. Off-idle throttle will be jerky and be low on power to comply with emissions. etc... It will be a neutered street bike with off-road looks like the CRF300L.
@jakeviolet21953 ай бұрын
The new Royal Enfield Himalayan doesn't have any of those problems (except for the ABS resetting, which is standard nanny-state stuff these days.) But it's a 450cc single that makes 40 hp and runs like a top right out of the gate. Has EFI, six speed, good suspension, the works.. and it's less than 6 grand msrp. It's a heavier adventure bike, but there is no reason why Suzuki couldn't develop a similar motor and put it in a dual sport. The Triumph 400x and upcoming KTM390 will also feature 40+ hp EFI singles. The Japanese need to get with the times, or they are gonna get left behind.
