I was literally thinkng and looking into Syntorial this morning and it's like you read my mind.

Haha, nice. I promise it took longer than this morning to make the video!

I love the production you’re putting into these! Very fun!

Hmmm. Very interesting. I can already make sense of synths, but know I can't "hear" the sounds in my head in advance of experimenting. Definitely one to consider when I am no longer struggling to keep up with all the other stuff I am attempting to learn!
@RyanLeach3 жыл бұрын
Ha, yes there are always way too many things to study but I will say the "ear training" side of it is the gold.

Ableton also has a good intro to synths on their website

The demo also got me hooked. I don't impulse buy much anymore, but for this I def did

Great video Ryan. Love Syntorial, it’s really strength is synth ear training rather than just learning to use subtractive synth.
@RyanLeach3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark, absolutely it's a brilliant approach. What's your synth of choice?
@Markrspooner3 жыл бұрын
@@RyanLeach I have quite a lot of them. Omnisphere still has the best organic Sample based sounds. Pigments is really nice as well and if I need a quick retro patch I use Analog Labs by Arturia or NI Super 8. If I need deep bass type sounds I use Knifonium from Plugin Alliance (Monark is also good for this). Synths based off NI Reaktor can create some amazing different sounds, such as Kontour, plus Reaktor is a crazy beast that can do anything. As you can see hard to pick one. But Omnisphere is my go to but I often use Vital as it is fun and easy to use.

I think Building Blocks for learning to use a DAW and again training your ear is worth it for beginners. The main negative is it doesn’t work on iPad and for many it is too basic.
@RyanLeach3 жыл бұрын
I checked out Building Blocks when it first came out, as you said it's so basic that I didn't really spend much time with it but for a brand new beginner it's probably a good resource.

Having tried to learn how synthesisers work and also learn music theory, I think synthesisers are WAY easier and more logical. Both are a lot of fun though
@abacaxi14712 жыл бұрын
Man music theory is 1000X easier than sound design.
@donrosco2 жыл бұрын
@@abacaxi1471 I guess it depends what level you’re looking at. Basic analog synthesis is pretty straightforward when I compare it to basic music theory, for me anyway. At some point they merge anyway, and you could even say that it’s two ways of looking at the same thing. All waves innit?
@garynicolson9341 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I advanced on music theory easily as it's more accessible. More resources etc. Sound design is harder because at least with music you can imagine a sound in your head and play it. With sound design you have to engineer the sound from the ground up. It's experimentation unless people are clued up on mixing tools. To me processing audio is the hard part, synthesis is easy but post-processing is the difficult part I think@@abacaxi1471

not clear from the video, did syntorial people have anything to do with this video/sponsor it?

nope

Any other options? I tried syntorial but frankly the speaker is so boring and the quizzes go from easy to impossible halfway through the course. I finally gave up.
