@@GWOPO9 they predetermine the price. i got a decent price at 280/month while adding my stepfather was completely free. sounds like a very bad deal until i tell you AAA and other big insurances were "offering" me insurance for 600+ a month for me alone

As an experiment I kept Allstate on my Tesla model 3 and have had Tesla insurance on my wife's model Y for about 2 years. Overall Tesla insurance has been cheaper than Allstate and when my wife had a rock go through her windshield they were very responsive. We paid for the repair and they reimbursed us within a week. However...I personally don't like the Big Brother feeling so I'll keep Allstate on my own car even though it costs a bit more. My wife drives like a grandmother so it's great for her.

The forward collision AI is so annoying. Your incident in the parking lot is very similar to what happens to me as well. I would add that whenever there is someone walking on a sidewalk, I need to turn my wheels slightly away from that pedestrian, because my Tesla keeps thinking I’m about to run into them

Yes, the forward collision warning needs to be improved. I have a turn near my house where I am often dinged depending on where cars are parked. Very frustrating.

Agreed! I have the same issue in neighborhood as well. I have to drive around the turn so carefully if someone is parked there. Sometimes I’ll drive all day with zero dings, then get to that one turn and get dinged cuz of a parked car at the turn and I swear I want to throw my phone into the lake lmao

I also noticed “hard break” is almost anytime i touch the break instead of using regenerate breaking. They should make the dings less sensitive. Cool concept but yeah

I had the same issue. The errors in the AI that measures the score was too many! That’s a big deal when it affects how much you pay. I canceled at the end of my first 6 months. Now I drive with less stress and more freely. I have Allstate Drivewise and I have perfect driving records! Tesla’s Beta score should not be official or should at least have a mechanism to correct errors. Especially when it is affecting payment!

Don't feel bad. Geico has one and it's garbage. My score was well over 100. For some reason they reset it all the way back to 89 when they changed my policy. Just an excuse to keep taking your rates up

For some crazy reasons, Tesla's quote for my 23Y is twice as much as what's being offered by State Farm. I do have multiple discounts with State Farm, but still Tesla's shouldn't be twice as much with the same coverage.

A curfew 11pm to 4am is dumb, I work in a building that operates 24/7. hundreds of employees work between those hours. I just applied for a shift where I get in at 4am. I understand it is more potential risk, but it is also just too much control/surveyance over my life they want. Other than that, this app is way better than mine for Progressive. The rate is similar, I pay 133 a month for a Chevy trax rn.

my forward collision will constantly beep because a car a good distance ahead of me is making a right turn and not really in my path at all. or when I'm parking in a parking garage it thinks I'm going to crash in to a parked car for no reason. Tesla insurance ended up being a lot cheaper than other companies for my Tesla though.

i like it but have the exact same issues you have with unsafe following I live in Marlyand but travel in DC and Virginia people cut right in front of you when you attempt to keep a safe distance. I have often wonder if honking my horn and activating the camera would be help the AI fix this issue.

Unfortunately I don’t think that would help AI learn how to score unsafe following better :( it doesn’t seem smart enough to realize when people cut us off, it’s not necessarily our fault and shouldn’t count that as unsafe following. It still does, ugh

I never opted for Tesla insurance because of Tesla safety score which I experienced when I was trying to get FSD beta before it had been released to every one. Tesla penalizes accelerating and apply brakes. Tesla expects every one to drive like a grand ma.

RIght off the bat, I think people are prematurely discounting Tesla. The rate of success is exponential or an S-curve. When they successfully implement FSD which will happen just a matter of time, the insurance should be completely reduced to what is proportional to the use of FSD. Ie. how can you raise the rate for someone who is completely reliant on YOUR system to drive? You see, this is the sychronicity of the genius of Tesla. They aim to completely electrify, digitalize, and sync all the systems together. So yes, it might have some issues for Tesla Insurance, but things will only get better. Tesla is not a stagnant company. The leader moves the company.

I hear you. I’m all for electrifying/syncing these systems, and as a Model Y owner, I’m rooting for Tesla to reach some new milestones and thrive. I think the bigger issue is Tesla’s AI systems feel very beta and are having a tough time adapting to infinitely perplexing and unpredictable human driving patterns. I tried FSD when Tesla gave us the free trial and it was a fun, but kind of awful experience imo (see my other videos about it). Tesla Insurance (which is in beta) is another example of their AI learning to evolve in realtime with the complexities of the road. It does pretty well overall, but when it fails, it is usually kind of dumb stuff, like what I talked about in my video. And then we, the users, get charged extra for the errors with no way to fix or change it? We’re paying for these services, giving them mountains of free data, yet the users get kinda screwed then their AI messes up. It’s a flawed system, and I hope it improves for everyone. I’m genuinely excited about all their AI tech, but tbh feels about 70% of the way there in my experience. It still has a long road to travel, but I hope it gets there 🤞🏼

We turned off the Safety Score feature, as it kept indicating we are going to hit parked vehicles on narrow curved streets, well before we even approached… It even registered a couple of times, that we were going to hit a car, in front of the car, in front of us… 😳

With my 23 I got all kinds of bullshit FCW, for no reasons. I always felt it was a scam to make rates higher. That said it was about 30-40% cheaper than the other companies I quoted, around $70 per month. With my 24 M3P it is about half what other companies charged, $176 per month through Tesla.

🐻 I can understand the concerns with AI or the algorithm issues that are erroneous, but I think it makes sense to deduct points for things like people pulling in front of you or driving late at night. While they're not the driver's fault, it seems there exists a higher risk of an accident if people do risky things around you or when you drive at night.

Yeah the late night driving thing makes sense (to a degree). But tbh I experience way more awful driving & accidents around rush hour than late at night. I also wonder about people who work late, or are Uber drivers etc who get dinged for driving past the Tesla curfew. Late night driving, even for a few minutes, seems to severely ding the safety score.
