Got a 2020 leftover nearly 5 months ago. I'm 6'5" - 34" inseam - and I fit fine. Dead pedal is deep enough. 40/60 backseat split is perfect since I have my seat back all the way against the narrower split - folded down will easily carry my skis (in NH). So far gas mileage has been better than sticker even with 4 snow tires. We'll see how MPG does with stock tires and A/C running.

Melbourne Australia. Got the top one just weeks prior 'i' series (i30 sells along with Elantra (also w 'Sport' which is the sedan 'brother)). Ours' (my wife's actually) is the i30SRTurboDCTPremium201hp with red belts & stitching & around vents, all buttons function & vg electro brake, & huge openg roof etc etc., soft touch all over, black leather seats with multi settings hot/cold & 'the lot incl all safety/radar etc'. It's an '18 model but clawlike (fully independent susp rejigged [203 combos tried] for our mix of freeway/tollway all the way to ripple red dirt outback tracks). I reckon it beats lots of SUV's spacewise & goes like a rocket yet does the peak hour city crawl where the 'hill start' is a boon. Our hot climate makes the 'cooling' seats so 'cool'. And costwise. So inexpensive for not so long ago, a 'Euro' luxury features. Yeah. Having lived & worked & still travel including stateside, I really appreciate your videos. Thanks Raiti's Rides

For the price I don't care about leather shifters. My wife had this as a rental (yes, a RENTAL lol) one day last year (2018 model), I liked the car, it felt a bit more cramped in there than what I'm used to, but the leg room was ok still. Also it is dark in there, that was noticeable. Hyundai has nice sensible dashes, easy to read. More cargo room in here than the Kona I believe. Might be a better buy.

The engine was the 1.8 NU , I think canada made them recall them or something like that. I bought the car with 16,000 on it used so the warranty with Hyundai was up. They are fighting people saying they didnt change the oil this and that but they are or were putting new short blocks on....new .blocks pistons rods etc. They all need a warranty of 10 years 100,000 but if you buy them used you dont get all of that....?????...make sure you have proof of oil changes or you could be up a creek.

I like the Elantra 2.0L engine, an Atkinson, port injection good for long term reliability. The 6-speed automatic is fine, don't care for DCT as I question it's long term reliability. Kia has an interesting CVT technology coming out that may be worth a look. While the Hyundai may not be able to go head-to-head with Mazda3 or Golf, it will be more reliable than VW and cost thousands less than Mazda. While it may not yet be as reliable as Toyota or Honda, I'll take it's reliability over a Nissan or VW, and price saving value over Mazda, Toyota, and Honda. I use to look at Nissan, Mazda, and long third choice: Hyundai as my tier 2 choices over Toyota and Honda. Nissan's quality has gone down too much for me to trust, Mazda's have become as expensive as Toyota and Honda thus eliminated themselves, for me, despite their fun to drive aspect. I even use to consider Subaru an alternative but I feel their quality has also dropped. So while Hyundai and Kia are not necessary the best in any one category, they are checking many "good enough" boxes and are a good value to have me considering a Kia/Hyundai as my next vehicle.
@stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
I"ve owned two KIA Sorentos, currently including a 2018 model and two GTI's, including another 2018 model. The KIA's have been remarkably reliable. Great warranties but if the warranties had been for 30 minutes/10 miles I wouldn't have spent a dime more on service, maintenance, or repairs. Perhaps surprisingly, I can say exactly the same about my GTI's. Altogether I've put over 200K miles (and counting) on these 4 vehicles and have never had a reliability issue with any of them. The bottom line is that vehicles from almost all manufacturers are remarkable reliable compared to twenty (or more) years ago. There are still differences in brands but those differences have been shrinking significantly over the last few decades. Some brands (e.g. Toyota/Lexus) still rank at the top of the ladder mainly, I think, because they build their vehicles to absorb neglect and abuse that Americans are more likely to inflict on their cars than drivers in Asia and Europe who make a significantly greater initial investment in their vehicles and are more careful about maintenance and service.

I wonder if the review channels have access to a different cars when they review small KIAs and Hyundais. I've driven the GT N/line, the 2018 GT sport, the 2019 KIA Forte. In my opinion they are far behind the leaders in the segment like VW, Mazda and Honda. The new Forte was especially crappy. The Hyundai turbos are just not up to par. I am driving the elantra gt sport as a daily. Nice car for the money, but worry that the dct will not hold up. I'm at 8k miles but feel the transmission fumbling a little, once in a while. Also, that GDI engine and carbon buildup down the road...
@stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
Your comment is not the first I've seen to express reservations about the DCT, Peter. I'm a huge fan of DCT ("automated manual") transmissions and put about 70K miles on my 2013 GTI and currently another 10K on my 2018 Autobahn/DSG. (DSG=DCT) with nary a "fumble," much less a real issue. And about 30K of the miles on my MK6 GTI were with an APR Stage I tune. The DSG eliminated the need to upgrade/replace the clutch in the GTI. All in all, I think it's the consensus that VW's dual clutch transmissions are the gold standard. As far as carbon buildup in GDI engines is concerned, the evidence suggests it's an overblown issue, even for VW engines and almost non-existent for the Korean brands. It is the case that the 2.0L turbo VW engine thought to suffer from the problem has been modified in Europe to a dual injection design but that appears to be a response to tighter emission standards in Europe than in the US rather than widespread "carbon buildup" issues.

Right on. However, I think you may have made the same error I did in comparing the "GT Sport" to the GTI. The performance hatchback version of the Elantra is the "N Line" not the Sport. @stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
That's debatable. VW offers a six year/72K mile bumper to bumper warranty covering a wide range of features including the drive train and it's transferable to a second owner. The Hyundai offers a non-transferable 5 year/50K mile bumper-to-bumper and a 10 yr/100K power train warranty. Power train warranties are seldom redeemed compared to the issues that arise in other components in a vehicle. So the VW warranty is arguably a better one.
@brooklynknightss5 жыл бұрын
@@stephenhendricks103 you better sell that VW before the warranty is up because it will cost you a Fortune
@stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
@@brooklynknightss So I've been told by several internet trolls. But having owned several VW's for well over the warranty periods, I'm not concerned. I simply take care of my cars as if I were a European. And that's why Europeans have a difficult time understanding VW's reputation for reliability/durability issues in the US. In Europe consumers pay far more for comparable vehicles and consequently are far more careful about service and maintenance than Yanks who are more likely to ignore and abuse their investments. BTW, I've also owned two KIA Sorentos. And if the warranties on those had been 30 minutes/10 miles I would have spent no more on repairs than I actually spent. Both great cars. But in my experience no better than the experience I've had with the VW's.
