Last year, I almost bought the Civic SI. Went to test drive the Elantra with NO intention to buy. I was so impressed that I ended up buy Elantra. 2019 SI had too many of the safety features missing. ex. Lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, emergency braking, and backup cross traffic. I do a lot of cross country driving.

@Der Schwindel my short list was GTI, SI and Elantra sport. Where I live, they didn't have GTI in stock. Between SI and Elantra, Elantra wins hands down for safety. (The closest GTI I could test drive was 700 km). For long drive, I use lane keeping warning as my yard stick. Once warning beeps, it is time to take a break.

Not with the 2020 Si...it has the Honda Suite of safety features that normally don't come with a manual. Automatic cruise on a stick is so rare... plus the LED headlights, limited-slip, and much better stereo. You will be regretting that Hyundai "reliability" after your 4th time to the dealer and when it comes time to sell...

@@roboticvenom1935 I plan to hand it down to my daughter in a few years so price was part of it, but the GTI seats were tge biggest reason. I am a big guy and the GTI seat bolstering is too tight. @@keithlynch3086 It's a shame you couldn't fit into the GTI seats, it's the complete package/balance. But I'd advise you do your own research. It makes no sense to label an entire brand because of one bad experience with one specific car. The engine in the GLI is the ea888 engine and has been in development for 15 years, long enough to get every kink out unlike the fresh si and n-line motors that haven't even seen high miles from different owners yet. The GLI powerplant has had no issues and less recalls than the n-line/Veloster turbo(Both the same engine in different cars), the only apparent issue has been coolant reservoir's cracking. The GLI is much faster, and not only has larger brakes but a much more upscale interior that is apart of the higher end VW brand, while offering it at a very similar price.

@@roboticvenom1935 I agree with just about everything you said, but when a car guy who' opinion I respected told me he would never buy another VW I decided to error on the side of caution Looks like the GLI is 0.3 sec faster 0-60 not exactly a game changer. If the GTI came with the GLI seats then I may have made a different decision.

You guys nailed this review! Having seen the Elantra GT N , the value proposition is truly shocking! The disbelief is overwhelming when you seen the $24K (US) all in price (standard trans), including the leather seats, 18 inch rims, and other extras. $5K is $5K! Now , if we can just get a GLI in the mix, we'd have a a complete picture. Keep rocking

Sadly, the Elantra GT-N is not equipped as well in the USA. To get the sunroof (also premium audio, adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, cooled seats, etc) you have to get the "premium package" for an extra four grand, AND Hyundai doesn't make the premium package available with stick. Sigh.

What I appreciate about this video is that you're looking past numbers and talking about how the cars drive, how they feel, in the context where most people are driving. I am currently leasing a 2019 Civic Hatchback manual. Are there quicker cars? Of course! Is it likely to understeer heavily if you really push it? Almost certainly. But where I do most of my driving it is an absolute pleasure: nimble, torquey, with a firm but comfortable ride, a satisfying shifter, and and and all around friendly demeanor. I think a lot of people focus on the track and how many seconds to 100 km/h and so on and lose sight of how a car is to live with on a daily basis.

As the owner of a 2017 civic sport touring 6mt, I really like these new civics. That being said, after 2 years of owning it, I was getting kinda bored with it... until ktuner. Holy crap, what a difference. The way it drives with the stage 2 tune is night and day. It feels like what the car should feel like from the factory (especially with the rev hang disabled). With a sway bar and a strut bar it now drives very nicely, and I added a short ram intake to help with the sound. I am now loooving the car. Essentially, as good as these new civics are, they need a tune.

The Hyundai Elantra GT N Line is the newer Kia Forte5 Hatchback SX Turbo and roomier Hyundai Veloster Turbo. An Elantra Sport Sedan in Hatchback form, but dealers don’t seem as willing to offer competitive prices and discounts. The Honda Civic Si is still the sharper and beefier car for families that only want to drive stick. But as it is most people are only interested in the Hyundai’s DCT and Honda is missing out on that market by not putting the Acura ILX’s automatic transmission as an option.

Because I love hatches & manual transmissions make driving much more engaging imho. The Honda’s are a little dated in their incorporation of tech while the Elantra has more recent innovations such as adaptive cruise control that Honda neglects in manual transmission Civics. The Mazda is a little under-powered and has a huge blind spot with the C/D pillar. Hyundai closes the sale with that massive panoramic ☀️ sunroof and a very competitive price!

as a 2017 Si owner i need to publicly disagree with your statement on the Is not having low end torque. i've felt what you are talking about and i think its the stability control doing something. From a stop light mine will roast the tires. With traction control off i can't take off aggressively without spinning the tires. Even with it on there is slippage. Its almost annoying at times. It makes a ton of torque. Its quite the impressive feat for a 1.5 liter. To be clear im not in love with it. Its a great sporty commuter and really good car for the money but i don't actually enjoy driving it. Its good, just not a lot fo fun. At least to me.

Hey Guys, Awesome review. How did you find the clutch feel in the Elantra? Was it better than the SI? I heard the SI's have a weak clutch and are prone to slippage. It sucks that if you want cooled seats & upgraded audio, you have to get the DCT Ultimate, in Canada.

The nice thing about the new civic si you get the hondata flash and horse power goes up 225hp to 232hp and psi goes to 24psi there’s three settings to be able to use the highest psi seething it requires a aftermarket clutch the psi is around 26 for the highest setting, and you can add rev limiter at idle and for launch control, and you can take off rev hang real nice 👍🏻

Looking at this video in 2022 from America! Because of the current used car market (still absolutely crazy), I like to know what fun hatches for a lower price are out there and which have the best performance/usability combo... despite that the Honda is my favorite of the two, in 2022 right now, the Hyundai is $5k-$8k cheaper in my area of the US and the Honda isn't 25% better to me. Regardless: both cars are great, Hyundai has come a long way in their performance and interior design quality, but Honda still knows what their doing

I've been shopping for a sporty little car to replace my 230i: I'm looking for a DCT, have no desire to go back to a manual. I see that you've compared both the Veloster Turbo and the Elantra GT N Line to the Si: how do you compare the 2 Hyundai's to each other? The Veloster felt more 'tossable' (like a baseball!), but I'm concerned that rear visibility will be an issue. I did seem to notice less torque steer in the Veloster. The Veloster leases at $50 more per month also. Any advice? Thanks

I'd agree it's the best Hyundai in Canada at the moment and best value on the market, better than the Honda. Totally agree about it aiming at and falling short of the GTI. And, I hate the Honda's styling, many Honda owners are annoying, and no hatch so...i bought a 1989 Porsche 944t.

I have a 2018 Hyundai Elantra Gt Sport with the dual clutch transmission. I quite like the car. It's easy to live with, and fun when you want to enjoy a back road. It could get better fuel mileage, but for the price it's tough to beat. It was alot cheaper than a GTI or a Honda. I would recommend it. Also it seems that there are more and more parts showing up from the aftermarket for these cars. I do wish Hyundai would bring the N to Canada, rather than the N Line. I don't want a Veloster, I don't think it's an attractive car, and with a family a hatchback is a better fit.
