I just bought a Jetta SE 5 speed manual 1.4Turbo and it's surprisingly quick for an economy car. This car looks like a blast. VWs look good these days IMO.

In Canada there is the 35th anniversary edition came with lots of improvements like the rooftop and side mirror black ,special Sevilla black alloy wheels with red ring 18” ,black rear spoiler heated front and rear seat as well as front ventilated seats. Guest what just bought it and of course manual. Just like it.

Previously, the GLI was a compromise to the GTI. It did not have everything the GTI had until the present series. It has all the same equipment, with variations for the different versions or editions. Now, it's more a matter of if you want a Hatchback, or a Sedan body style.

jjacob25101 it still doesn’t have the same equipment. in the GLI you can’t get Nav, Adaptive cruise control, lane assist, park pilot, park assist, fender sound pack, fog lights, light assist, the list just goes on an on. These are feature that are available on the GTI. that’s why the GLI is cheaper

I actually like this, with either transmission, and no compromise finally getting a GLI instead of a GTI. If only not Mexico made, and the notorious cheap plastic parts known to break often. An aftermarket company should make all those known common breakable parts made in better materials. Zonk for no CD player, and rear A/C vents. This particular low mileage vehicle, with reason for trade in is a bonus, and savings.

I was questioning myself when I read somewhere that the DCC was included in the 35th Anniversary, but not the Autobahn. I had to watch this video and look at pictures of the interior of my car to make sure I wasn't crazy thinking that it WAS included. 😅

DisneyChannelFlow 2 : It’s actually opposite here (in India) where we still have a long way to go before auto becomes the norm and anybody could really get excited seeing a manual in a car. We’ve always had manual and are now getting used to auto. The first time I test drove an auto was on Audi A4 and I was so itchy to shift manually after a certain speed. In fact, my hands involuntarily went to the gear lever to upshift the gear. No wonder, manual is real fun. You feel either you are the master with a complete control over the machine or a part of the machine itself where you know exactly what’s going on with the transmission and the engine and how they are coordinating. I have a 11 year old Honda City with manual transmission and just 100 BHP but it’s so fun to drive.

The new GLI is an amazing and very underrated car. Raced our Accord 2.0T against it. Couldn't win. Was very even all the way to triple digits, but I felt that at 110+, the Jetta may have a little edge in performance. Amazing for the stated 228hp.

this was on my shopping list when i was looking. ended up with the Type R. I figured i have a few years left before i out grow the Type r' s styling. I was impressed with the GLI though, its a nice car. But all i can say is bring on the R8!!!!!!!!!!

I actually bought a 2019 GLI 35th and VW bought it back because they couldn’t figure out why it kept stalling so I went out and bought a GTI Rabbit DSG and drives better than the GLI to me feels quicker than the GLI. GLI is the more luxury oriented driving car and the GTI is the sporty quick gotta go fast all the time car. Either way can’t go wrong on the GLI OR GTI.

If you wondered why they traded it in with almost no miles, the fact Consumer Reports rated the GLI a 1 out of 5 stars for reliability might have something to do with it. That's the lowest rating you can get. Seems like they have all kind of problems. Camshaft issues, transmission issues, ect. That sucks, because I wanted one.

The Autobahn does have ventilated seats, btw. As for why the GLI badge is gone from the trunk lid and other things I see on the outside.... this car got rear-ended and has been repaired.

That’s possible, but I think it’s also possible that the previous owner de-badged it. That’s what a lot of younger drivers do these days for a cleaner look or whatever reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Love everything on this car it is a no nonsense car. I much prefer the wheels on the 35th anniversary they are all black or gun metal grey. I am not a fan of those polished rims they resemble something you would see on a EV or hybrid car.

I wish car makers would watch these reviews and start listening to what people have to say. Prop rods, fake vents, no fog lights, dead switches...drives me nuts and it is so simple to fix when designing. It almost seems like designers got lazy at the end.

Don't trust his zonks. I own a 2019 35th edition GLI (DSG). Interior is very sharp looking. The whole car looks amazing and drives super smooth. Like an Audi (but for much less money).

I think anyone would go with a Golf R but it is almost 50% more expensive than this. GLI is a lot of car for the price. Not disappointed after 4 months of ownership of my 35th manual which in Canada has all the Autobahn upgrades as well. Nice package.

I’ve had a 2010 GTI Autobahn, 2013, GLI Autobahn, and a 2015 GTI Autobahn. Maybe I’m old, but the 2013 GLI was better looking. The new Autobahn wheels on both the GTI and the GLI are not very good looking. Maybe they did it to increase strength, since they were fairly easy to bend. I’m sure the new GLI drives better and the tech is a lot better, but the front end grill is a little goofy, as well as some of the proportions. The “chunkiness” of the dashboard style reminds me of an old impala or something like that. LOL. Personally, I think they engineered some ugly into it l, otherwise it would basically negate the reason to purchase say a base A4 or A3 since it probably is better performing than both.

Yeah the gli is faster. The accord has the same motor as the type r with a smaller turbo so if you swap the type R turbo on to it and tune it the accord can be a deadly sleeper, but you can also swap the is38 from the golf r on to the gli as well and upset a lot of cars out there. The camry is NA so it would be costly to get real performance gains out of that, but the camry looks real good but NA limits its tuning potential. And the gli is definitely the most fun out of the three and has the best manual, and also the best auto (dsg).

That Jetta only has a 1.4 liter engine. Great gas mileage...but I wouldn't buy one with that small of an engine. I bought the 2019 35th edition GLI. It has the 2.0 liter engine with a lot more HP and TQ.

From where he gets the 0-60 they all all wrong. And the GLI comes with summer tires the gti doesn’t probably that’s why it feels a little faster. My guess it’s that they put the summer tire on the GLI to compensate acceleration because it like a 150 heavier than a gti

Early on in the video, Joe mentions the car is speed limited to 123 MPH. Manufacturers do this so the vehicle cannot exceed the speed rating of the tires. Now, what kills me is that the speedo on this car goes up to 160 MPH. Something the vehicle can never achieve because the fuel cutoff is set to 123. It's digital dash. Why not just configure the digital speedo to 125? On the Golf R, they can configure that digital speedo to perhaps to 160. Depending on the tires they put on the R, it may just reach 160. VW is not the only manufacturer to play this stupid speedo game. Almost every vehicle has a speedo that shows this wildly optimistic maximum speed mark that the vehicle can never achieve due to either a fuel cutoff or the vehicles inability to overcome aerodynamic drag. Just crazy when manufacturers do this!
