Is the 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 a BETTER performance car than the C8 Corvette?

Two of the most anticipated cars are finally here for 2020. The Ford Shelby GT500 & C8 Corvette bring a lot of performance for the money. Under the hood of the GT500 is a supercharged 5.2L V8 pumping out 760HP & mated to a Tremec 7-speed DCT. Under the engine hatch of the first ever mid-engine Corvette is a 6.2L V8 producing 495HP & mated to a Treme 8-speed DCT. Each has taken a different approach to produce power and also from a looks standpoint. On the inside of both you will see updates and changes especially on the C8 Corvette. Corvette is naturally aspirated - the supercharged version of the C8 by Hennessy puts out 1200 HP. That’s the comparison I’d like to see.

I’d take the GT500 for sure, especially since as time goes on the C8s will be a lot more common, but I gotta give it to the C8 tho, I mean the fact that people are comparing a base model corvette with a lot less horsepower to a gt500 speaks for its self. I mean just think what the z06 and the zr1 trim levels of the C8 will be like when just the base model it’s self is already impressive

And obviously a GT500 will be less common because if you actually used your head it’s a limited production for just 2020 meaning only 5000 will be out their dumbass compared to the C8 which is a mass production car. In just 2020 over 40K could be built and that’s not including the following years to come.

Great video! The only ‘zonk’ that I have is the C8 disk break sizes. It’s actually 13.3” in the front and 13.8” in the rear. Because of the 60% weight balance in the rear, the rear breaks were designed to be larger. They are also both the same 4 piston calipers. They just look smaller because of the larger wheels

Great review, Joe. I would take a new Corvette vs. a similarly priced GT350 or GT500. As good as the new Shelby cars are, I love the exotic looks and new mid-engine design of the new C8. But I’d love to see a track test pitting these cars against each other. Wouldn’t change my decision, but it would be fun to watch!

Only bad part is that the C8 will hold it's value 10 times better than the Stang. If you intend to drive it and don't care about resale, then I would definitely go with the stang. However, I just needed to point that out.

Z06 will be here first and it will destroy any Mustang. The base C8 gives the Shelby heart attacks while having almost 300 less horsepower. 600+hp Z06 with less weight will walk the Shelby all day everyday unless it's a top speed run.

Im 1000 miles into owning a 2020 gt500 and i can somewhat agree. I owned a Mercedes before this and even though the interior quality and rotary dial dont match a mercedes... when you are in the car all you see is that giant heat extractor, the white stripes, angry snake and the speed gauge hitting 150 before you can blink as you lose a year of hearing every pull! The feeling is like no other :,) enough to make a grown man cry!

Hotshot Coolz oh I’d soon forget the rotary dial! What I love about the GT500 is the looks, sound, speed come to together to create an emotional feeling. I always say one car being 0.1 second faster doesn’t matter. That’s just bragging rights. It’s about how the car makes you feel as a complete package. You can see Joe thinks the C8 is a great car but his emotional reaction to the GT500 is off the charts 😎

Poor guy, as these cars are actually optioned on average the “base” C8 (base as in non-Z06/ZR1 hi-po trim) the GT500 and C8 are very, very close in price. You won’t touch a C8 Z06 for anywhere near the GT500’s price.

Both amazing cars in their own right, but they’re not in the same league. The mustang is a Camaro competitor. The C8 is an exotic with a mustang price tag
