Most people talking about reliability won't keep this for 10+ years. If you're re-selling after a few years, the amount you pay over MSRP is a 100% loss the second you take it off the lot. Overpaying for a Toyota is insane.

New to your reviews…new subscriber here - nice job on hitting real world points! We purchased my wife one of these on 2/28 (ordered/put deposit on 2/1). My wife and I are empty nesters now and she wanted a smaller more fun vehicle; so she got rid of her GMC high top (Explorer) conversion van and got this. We put on KO2 tires (white letters out) and she is loving this flashy vehicle!!!! I have a 2019 Tacoma TRD Off Road, which I’ve put 171k trouble free miles on since purchasing new. My son has a 2002 TRD Off Road Tacoma, with 275k miles (just routine maintenance). We have other vehicles, but I must say your point of the reliability/dependability of the 4Runner is spot on. The vehicle certainly has not kept up with the “Jones’” in the tech department but in the “jump in and go anywhere “ department this vehicle has set and maintained the bar. BTW… I bought my wife’s vehicle at MSRP.

Hard to beat the reliability and resale value of a Toyota 4Runner. I currently have an army green 2020 Trd Pro 4Runner. My wife has a 2017 Trd Off-road 4runner. Before I bought my TRD Pro 4Runner I had a 2013 SR5 4runner that I abused. Other than basic maintenance not a single problem. After 7 years and 162k hard miles I sold it for $20k in 2020. And the winner is.... The Ford Bronco! Joe, for me, this was a no Brainer. The Bronco eats the 4runners lunch in many ways, let me demonstrate a few: The Bronco: - Has been fake vents or scoops - Has more ground clearance - Looks way more contemporary in style - Has better wheels - Has more power, and has faster 0 to 60 - Has better fuel economy - Has more advanced technology I would say the only area that the 4runner wins in is in space. It also has a few other Doodads. That's a 7 to 1 advantage! I'm more of a new school tech kinda guy Joe, which makes sense cause I'm a Gen Z and I'm going to be 20 this year. But Joe, you got to understand, for me paying 55 K for this is a no- go. I'll use my money for the Bronco Wildtrak! Sorry Toyota, didn't impress me with this one, fingers cross for a redesign 2023! Great job Joe n Lori!

Seems like you're justifying a purchase that you made in haste. You read like you're covering your tracks but you don't know for sure. Enjoy your ride regardless, dude!

@@the406seadonkey6 Well thanks, I just make sure that you know when I express an opinion on a review sometimes I like to really go down to the nitty gritty and explain why I chose a certain vehicle you know? I tried my best here to explain why the 4runner wasn't really my pick this time.....but also explain why I think the way I do based on some things about me like my age and what gen im from. Thats why I like watching Raitis rides!

5th gen 4Runner is the absolute best mid-sized SUV available in North America!.... I own and prefer the TRD Off Road with KDSS... Actually the TRD Off Road with KDSS is a better comparison to a Sasquatched Bronco, because the KDSS is an automatic sway bar disconnect, for maximum off road articulation.. Like the Bronco's stability bar disconnect.. The Pro can't be equipped with KDSS, meaning it is at a disadvantage on technical rock crawling scenarios.. The Fox Shocks in the Pro are meant to be better to soak up high speed bumps while desert running

Toyota if you want reliability. Lexus GX460 if you want the ultimate off-road value. TRD is a marketing package and boy is it working for Toyota in the USA. The markups are absurd... you can get a Lexus GX460/Landcruiser Prado at no markup simply because it doesn't have TRD stickers all over it... 😉

Yeah, for $25,000 more, genius. What's with the disingenuousness of your statement? Grow up.

Just went back to my roots! I have owned Many Toyota 4WD trucks since 1979! Just purchased a 2021 TRD Off Road Premium with a 3-inch lift 285, roof rack, light bar that was traded in on a new Bronco. His loss is my gain ! Toyota reliability supersedes a Bronco or Wrangler any day . The other 2 may win a category or two , but never in reliability .

Toyota reliability is no joke. I have a 2006 Tacoma TRD with 240K miles and I don't even worry about it. Some Fords are pretty reliable... but nothing like a Toyota. I have a Ford Lightning reserved.. but if Toyota comes out with an electric truck soon... it will be a tough call.

Yes it's cheaper and the aftermarket parts for this suv is way better plus it's bullet proof. The redesign is going to be cool.

I love 4runners. I wish I did more off-roading or towing to justify the low MPG. I gotta stick to my subaru outback for now.

I hope that Toyota does something to make the gas mileage better in the next 2 years for the 4Runner.

After the markup it'll be cheaper to just buy a GX 460.

I got a 2021 4RUNNER Limited last year after owning 3 Pathfinders (they lost me when they went crossover). It was not an easy decision - the 4RUNNER is not perfect and I considered a lot of other vehicles including the Brono and Jeep Gladiator, Palisade to name just a few. I prefer the body on frame style but also a big factor was reliability. The Bronco sounds like it has more modern features, but is it as reliable?
