Is the 2023 Audi S6 a BETTER new performance sedan than a BMW M5?

The S6 is a few changes from Audi for 2023. On the outside you will see a new grill. front fascia and wheels. On the inside you will be greeted by a full leather interior, carbon fiber trim and 3 digital displays. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharge & supercharged V6 that produces 444HP. Is the 2023 Audi S6 a BETTER new performance sedan than a BMW M5?

I've driven a few Audi sedans and wagons (Allroad 4.2L V8) and although they aren't the "fastest" or the "best handling" they are plenty good enough for me. The interiors are terrific and the exterior styling is classy. Perhaps the best bang-for-the-buck in the luxury segment. (Sorry Genesis) Thanks for taking one for the team, Joe.

im concerned about body roll, i am in a redsport and there is literally no body roll in custom or sport plus. what u rate body roll on s6 out of 0 to 10? i drove rs5 and it seemed ok seemed very similar to g70/q50/rs3 etc@@RaitisRides

Great review Joe. The S6 is a sleeper daily driver and of course it is nice on the road. I drove this before picking up the M550Ix last year and really liked it but the M550 is bit more a sleeper with it’s power and handling.

The M550i is about the same price, but has like 100 more hp. So, I think you chose well. I tried getting one 3 years ago, but they were hard to find. I ended up with a 540i.

I do think the M550i is a much better comparison. The "M-light" versions with the S series, and the M with RS.

@@wamhas9348 Performance-wise, the S6 might be closer to the 540i. Just going off of 0-60 times, the S6 is 4.4, the 540 is 4.6, and the 550 is 3.6.

The performance difference between the A6 3.0T and S6 is actually much smaller than you would think. The DCT gives the A6 the quicker off the line response, the way it is programmed, rather than the ZF8. Audi cars with the ZF8 have a very noticeable delay off the line. You can save yourself 20K, and get options such as ventilated seats, and a quieter ride. Both are excellent cars though.

Great car and review!!! The S6, and similar vehicles in the Audi line, are a bit "long in the tooth" for a full redesign. Also, a few features missing in this luxury performance vehicle, especially at over 90k. This, and the A6, can be a better value in the 2-3 year old range. I would still drive this any day though, as any vehicle has some perspective dings.

These are beautiful cars in a more subtle way BMW. However, Beemers have more visual pop. Both BMW and Audi are great "Lease Bait". Don't keep either past Warranty. IMHO.

Great review, Joe & Lori. I like the color, the blacked-out roof, and the styling of the vehicle. It looks like the way Audi should exterior-wise. I don't like all the gloss-black interior trim pieces. It cheapens the interior and would be hard to upkeep with all the fingerprints and Twinkie goo. Audi's have been known to have premium interiors and this one falls short in my opinion. Just like you, Joe, I would prefer physical buttons and no ventilated seats at that price is a major zonk!

Yeah, the sport seats don't have ventilation capabilities for some dumb reason. You have to get the standard luxury seats to get it, but it is available.

I have a '20 M5 competition. To answer the question, I highly doubt it. The M5 is a complete beast. The car just pulls so hard, no matter the speed, gear, rpm doesn't matter.

Im glad they kept the tiptronic shifter that actual can be used to shift. Alot of cars phasing this out i hope audi keeps it. Hate how some have completely removed it and there is nothing at all in centre. erghh

I believe the S6/S7 both have the 2.9L Twin Turbo V6 engine, as opposed to the 3.0L Single Turbo V6 engine that's in the S4/S5.

Nice review back to the higher end cars. Outstanding understated beautiful exterior. I actually like the previous interior design for functionality. I think they could have blended the dual screens with a redesign of their knob-switch row in between. I have a 2018 and friend has 2022 with the dual screens. A blend of the two would have been better functionally imho. Yes the wheels get two thumbs up.

Audi build quality has always been superior to BMW in my eyes. I owned 2 RS3's an RS5, and an S4, all top notch compared to my X3MC and M5. 600 HP in an M5 is nice and lightning quick, but I missed the functionality of Audi more than the HP gains. Joe, keep up the good work my man. Your reviews are always so much fun to watch!

The previous M5 which was rear wheel drive wasn’t as practical. They prob came on summer performance tires most owners leave those on and they are bad in winter. And in even a dusting of snow they are un-drivable. Years ago I had to pick my friend up after a light dusting of snow rendered his M5 useless. But the new ones with X-Drive take the cake

I am German American and I come from an engineering background this is going to be my next car right now now I see a 2021 Audi S6 for $50,000 with only 25,000 miles on. I already have $25,000 and if sell my car, that is another $10,000. I am 15,000 away from getting a nice 2021 silver S6 you’re getting close to 450 hp but you’re not getting killed on the gas you’re getting 19 to 26 MPG or 22.5 combined is not horrible for a performance sports car Essex makes it not your grandmother’s AI

It seems like there are different country specifications not just on engines. I have an Audi A6 S-line with ventilation seats and a cover on the cupholders. Does this Audi also have seat belt buckles that are illuminated? This is optional here in Germany and a really cool feature.

My BMW M340i doesn’t have vented seat either. Not even available in the option. But I heard it is available in some other countries. I live in Canada and I assume we are having the same packages as the ones in US and Mexico

Not an issue at all. Our 2013 A8L has not had any problems or issues since new. And even when in warranty, only a sun visor light switch replaced.

This is one nice Audi. But I still prefer the MTM RS4 (B7) Clubsport, without the hood scoop, of course. Supercharged 4.2L V8. 6-speed manual, Quattro AWD in Sprint Blue (or silver) metallic.

Very nice. This would mandate a euro style plate for the front. The design incorporates the adaptation of a full size eruo plate where a US plate would look odd. Or risk it and go no plate

Back in transporter days ..brand were so unique ...Audi has awesome manual v6 and V8 diesels ... Full crappy electronics ... My dad has a user 2013 a6 3.0 TDI ...pretty vannila from factory ..but with a performance upgrade, new set of tyres, altered BCM ...the car is good for 350 ish HP and a whopping 680 NM torque ... 0-100 is around 4.5 ish ..but that's ok .... Its much relevant then many downsized v6s these days ..😊
