In this video, I give you a full review of the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV -- one of the most affordable, LONG RANGE EVs available in America today.
GM sent mini shock waves throughout the EV auto world earlier this year when the company announced it was discontinuing the popular Chevy Bolt nameplate. But, just a few months later, the General reversed course and said 'nah, the Bolt is here to stay.' That was welcomed news for many, as the Bolt is arguably one of the most - if not THE most - affordable, long-range new EV on sale right now.
In this video, I give you a FULL REVIEW of the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV -- the 'extended' Bolt, that is longer and taller than its bite-sized cousin the, uhh, normal Bolt.
With an affordable price tag, a host of fun tech, and a 65kWh lithium-ion battery pack that delivers an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles - and a peppy sprint to 60mph at least for a hatchback -- there isn't much to complain about. But the Bolt isn't perfect, and there are a few things that GM needs to figure out and address in the NEXT generation -- we know the company's Ultium platform will play a role, but what will that mean for performance, cargo space, price, and overall bang for your - Bolt? For those considering buying the EUV(If you can find one), forget about the my moaning about "slooooow) charging, it's a non issue. It's easy to multitask the necessary one hour required at a DC fast charge station from 20% to 80% you can take a nap, grab a bite, relieve yourself OR better yet, read your owners manual. If you charge at home, get a good nights sleep. So, the Bolts charge rate is more than adequate especially when considering the phenomenal features packed into this remarkable car.

By the way I stated in another comment that Bolt EUV has a very fast AC charging for North American market and only DC charging is slow.

Heck, most EV owners with a charger at home, probably very rarely fast charge their cars. Most cars are driven locally with the occasional long trip.

If you understand the limits of the Chevy EUV Bolt, you will not be disappointed. Short hops (120 miles round trip), around town driving and home 240V charging should make most happy. DC charging (CCS 125V or 62.5V) is available, but will take longer time than say a Tesla. The Bolts internal charge ability limits it. The instrument layout is traditional G.M. Good review!!

I'm loving my '23 Bolt euv Lt; I didn't need anything extra the Premier offers. It costs 1/3 the amount to charge at home vs putting gas in my '19 awd Prius, which averaged 60 us mpg from new. I like the size of the euv. FWD is fine for me even in Canada, as I always have winter tires on dedicated wheels. I wish a heat pump were an option, as it would help in the cold, but I adapt to winder range. It's mostly my commuter, and when I do travel, I make sure I have charge stops planned, with options if they're full or broken.

I would think the Bolt EV would be the Top Cheap EV Speed of charging at home is not an issue for most users most of the time (if they have a charger 240V charger that they can use). I have roof rails on my 2018 Bolt EV Premier that came with the car. Not the best car for distance driving. never try to charge to 100% unless you have lots of time. My Center console has a removable tray in it. Was that acceleration test in sport mode or the normal mode?

I have the 2022 Bolt EUV Premium w/Super Cruise and 2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance and I can say Bolt is no where near Tesla.

In what ways? I own a 2023 EUV Redline after having owned a Tesla S. I believe the Tesla superior in many ways (other than charging speed): Sunroof, XM radio, Supercruise (that unlike FSD hasn't had a mind of its own), physical buttons for HVAC and the utility of a hatchback. Add in superior structural integrity (7K miles in). Yes, charging speed is significantly slower, but for my purposes (not driving more than 200 miles / day, and having a charger at my office) it's a non issue. Oh, one other advantage for the Tesla is that it's faster 0-60. Not an issue for me, but perhaps for you.

Sure Tesla might be superior since the price is twofold. However to compare to Tesla the Tesla has to launch its small hatch Model 2. Otherwise no comparison should even be considered since Tesla has no vehicle in Bolt class. Bolt advantages: higher ground clearance, ability to park in tight spots due to small size, hatch body shape, much higher reliability than Tesla, much lower price, decent ride comfort in Bolt EUV Premier able to be experienced only in Model S, X thanks to air suspension, decent range due to its efficiency. It is one of a few European/urban small cars available on North American market, everything else including Tesla being too large for some cities. Simply put: each job needs its own tool. There is no cross comparison between those two tools Bolt vs Teslas.

Teslas are as a rule more expensive than a Tesla, so factor that in. Of course a Tesla is more everything than a Bolt.

Every reviewer stresses slow charging. For instance, in this video it is committed a huge confusion between AC and DC charging. This car is one of the fastest charging on AC 11.5 kW on North American market while it is one of the slowest DC charging 50 kW. Tesla charges AC exactly with the same speed 11.5 kW. In the past Tesla had double AC internal chargers allowing charge up till 22 kW, not available anymore due to high cost considerations and unavailability in private households of such high current. On the contrary lots of cheap econobox shaped EVs in Europe can accept 22 kW AC 3 phase charging available on the streets. Nothing like that is available on North American market.

On a long road trip, a 1st gen Ioniq charging at 65-70 kW is much faster than the 40-45 that the Bolt takes.

@@Antiorganizer In the video a phrase was said Bolt charges slowly at home and on the trips. It charges slowly ONLY on the trips. DC charging is on the road, AC at home. Bolt is charging home FASTER than Ionoiq 5 which has a slower internal AC charger and obviously much much faster at home than 1st generation Ioniq EV.

@@nevco8774 I'm having a hard time finding charge rates for level 2 charging on either. Is it true that the Ioniq Electric, 1st gen, on level 2, charges at 6.6kW max, and 2nd gen at 7.2kW. And that the Bolt does it at 7.2kW? ps. I'm not considering the Ioniq 5, or 6, because they're too stupid still expensive for my budget. I'm talking old school Ioniq 1st and 2nd gen here.

@@Antiorganizer Bolt from 2022 was upgrated to 11.5 AC kW. Very unusual. Charging faster, having a smaller battery, being more efficient Bolt is the best dedicated commuter ever sold among EVs on North American market.

@@nevco8774 11.5 means 48A, and that is pretty much the max one can get at home. Of course, the Ioniq is more efficient in terms of energy consumption, but the Bolt with this extra faste charging speed, put its ahead in terms of range when charging at home.

Your video seems to be loaded with gripes, you are asking for too much from an entry level EV! This car is the same size of my MK5 GTI but I guess you never drove in a car that small.

If you are obsessed with range and being able to engage in fighting with others on the road and win, then yes. If you want cheaper and more efficient, without battery problems, faster charging, much bigger and more comfortable, then the Ioniq Electric 1st gen (used obviously) is better.

There are no battery problems with the Bolt anymore. They either replaced the batteries or fixed it with software. They replaced my batteries which was cool. But that was on them. I'd say any EV is good and even better if it Fast Charges faster than the Bolt. I think the new ones will have faster charging (at least I hope).
