Great manual seats like the $ 62,000 EV6 GT -no lumbar, manual adj, crappy bolstering. Luckily for the Bolt you can get power for 1,200-the KIA-----not offered at any price. I wonder if you get the $ 2500 CA rebate with the Bolt? Also--I wonder what the actual range is at 70 mph

With the 1LT I think adding the comfort and convenience package with the heated seats and leather steering wheel is a worthwhile upgrade. Not only is it just nice to have heated seats but in a pinch they can help with range/efficiency as they use far less energy than the heater.

Honestly, you need to find a better dealer. They do exist. I walked into my local dealer, ordered an F150 for MSRP and was out in a half hour with no hassle. They asked me if I wanted anything added to it or done to it, laid out there options, I said no thanks, and that was it. No pressure, just laying out the options and asking me to make a decision. When the truck came in, they had all my paperwork ready, saleswoman even texted me a picture of my truck off as it came off the transport at 9pm! 30-40 minutes of paperwork, brief intro to the truck, and I was driving home. Good dealers are like any good business, they are worth having them in your community.

We have a 2LT, and it seems to solve most (if not all) of your complaints. And the 360 camera in it is better than the one in our Mach-E (it's fantastic). The exception is the charge rate. It's why we have a Mach-E (which we use for longer road trips). We do take the Bolt on daytrips--if you only need one charging stop, you just make that a sit-down meal, and it's not a big deal (it's good to go when you're done eating). 🙂 We're huge fans (it's our 2nd Bolt--our first was a 2018, and our current is a '22). The stock tires are hot garbage, but even with a decent (better) set of all-seasons, the car is a lot of fun! We got our at MSRP too, but also had to argue with the dealer (who wanted a $1,000 ADM) to get it though.

Having to have 2 vehicles just to have a Bolt is the stupidest thing I've seen. Electric vehicles work great for urban areas. Doesn't work so well where there are no chargers. Pretty much useless. Example: My office is 25 miles from my house. There is not a single charger in the town where I work (town of 5,000). And if there was, I'd have to spend 40 minutes just standing around wasting time charging. I regularly travel well over a hundred miles to meetings weekly and they are typically to small towns.....guess what, no chargers and again, if there were, I'd be wasting billable time charging. Not to mention, I'd have to spend $5k plus to put in a home charger.

You should get a real two EVSE install estimates. Even if you need a service upgrade it would be $2500 max, unless you are wanting the plug 100 feet from your home. Mine cost $450 for the ClipperCreek unit (less after the 30% tax credit) and $500 for the electrician to run the conduit closer to the garage door (so I could also charge when parked outside). However, there are a lot of people that just can't go full electric yet, which is fine. It will be at least five years before plugs are common enough in the more remote parts of America.

BTW, when we ordered our 2023 Bolt EUV last August, the dealership tried to tack on a $1000 markup and we said no thanks and they said ok, no markup. We got it delivered in November. I actually bought one version of the "extra warranty" this time. For $700, we got unlimited PDR, windshield replacements and remote fob replacements. A replacement windshield alone would cost more with the safety equipment calibrations. I live in CO and it's not if you crack your windshield but when.
@maryannrondinella5680

I wish Tommy had discussed what the warranty is for a new Bolt. I believe GM is standing behind the new traction battery, but what about the rest of the car? I owned two Chevy's many years ago, and both were lemons that I got rid of after a few years. I drive my Japanese cars 10+ years until they fall apart, and plan to do the same for my current 2017 Hyundai hybrid unless I trade it in for a Hyundai or Kia EV. Warranties matter!

GM has to be making some kind of profit on these cars. 1. They only increased the MSRP by $900 which based on demand and the tax incentives they could have increased much more. 2. They plan on increasing production from about 22,000 in 2022 to 70000. You dont triple production of an economy car that is losing money unless there is some other strong incentive.

Thanks for your thoughts, Tommy -- and "well done," as usual. The slow DC charging is a real deal-killer for some folks -- range almost doesn't matter if the charging is so slow. They might as well give you half the battery, as you'll mostly use it as a "commuter car." I always keep in mind "apartment renters" who will have no hope of AC "charging at home" -- and they'll be stuck with slow DC charging. Yes, this is fine for those who can charge it at home and drive locally, but you'll be wasting hours of your life on road trips. Thanks also for your thoughts about the seats. Yes, I've heard that the new seats are better, but the old seats were historically abominable. There are actually some manufacturers who have figured out how to specify seats that properly fit human bodies -- and from the cheapest to the most expensive models, their seats have the same basic design. Materials and cosmetic design varies over the price ranges, but you just don't get a car that you won't be comfortable sitting in. How on EARTH "basic" can it POSSIBLY be to just "specify seats that fit human bodies" to some of these vehicle manufacturers? I have been going to the yearly Auto Shows since a decade or more before Tommy was even born, and I have always tried to sit in the cars that I've been interested in. It's just astonishing at how uncomfortable some of these seats have been. As I have gotten older, NOTHING is as important as having a comfortable driver seat. And buying an inexpensive car shouldn't have to be "sitting in a penalty box" every minute you drive it.

We have a first gen. Bolt in our company fleet & I always try to check it out when available. I agree with all the positive & negative things you talked about. The acceleration is very good onto highway traffic. The Bolt is over 4 years old & has held up very well with the amount of use it gets. I did consider buying one when it first came out but, it was higher than the Prius plugin I bought instead with the credits. It is amazing to me that Chevy lowered the price so much. After watching your video am now consider buying one if I can find it for the list price. I also will add that the test drive you took is actually part of my daily commute & the parking lot often where I go to hike after work. Plus, the range & acceleration I find is great heading up the Canyon to Ned & the regen braking almost completely gets the battery back up to full charge on the way back down. We also have an older Leaf in the fleet & the only way to get up & down the Canyon without range anxiety is to top it off @ charging station.

Sorry, 90% of all car fires start as electrical, engine type not really necessary, the problem with ev’s is output of the battery. It can do a lot damage before reaching the fuse cutout level, ie more fires, it is a matter of math not opinion! Vehicle has all the components of a normal vehicle electrical system with the ev system as separate but connected system. Do the math as you add in the high load devices to your home to charge your car.

Up where i live, dealer markups are actually illegal. When the dealer gets you though is on the additions they put on the car that you don't seem to have control over….lock nuts for the alloys, vin etching on the panels, etc etc. Due to no inventory up here you do buy at the MSRP, and the only real negotiating tool is on your trade…if you have one.

I heard a reviewer describe the Bolt as a solid car that just so happens to be electric. About the lack of SOC complaint, I feel like this was part of that goal. ICE cars don't tell you what percentage of gas you have left, so this one doesn't either. I'm buying one myself, and I am ok with this. The visual for battery fullness plus range estimate is more important than a percentage for me

They are nearly impossible to find in the deep south/southeast. You can order them, but you won't find them on dealer lots. You can find used ones, but they often have 30k miles and still being sold at or very near to MSRP. If you want a Bolt EUV with Super Cruise, you're going to pay way more than MSRP. I've seen them listed as high as the mid $50k range, though usually they're more like low to mid 40s, still above MSRP.

The only reason Chevy is selling the bolt at this price is to capture the carbon credits. It is better for them to lose money on the bolt than pay Tesla for the carbon credits. They planned to have other more profitable cars to capture it (eg Hummer and Lyriq) but the amount of those cars delivered is abysmal and pathetic so they’re stuck at selling bolts at a loss. Well, at least we consumers gain from this which is exactly what carbon credits were meant to do - get more EV on the road 🥳

The battery gauge does show state of charge in 5% increments. There are 20 notches just like there are in the display that you thought was okay, so I’m not sure why you didn’t figure that out. And you don’t count the bars, you just deduct 5% for each missing bar.

I love my 2020Bolt EV Premier. Mine gets it's new battery in about a week and a half. As far as road tripping. The Bolt does just fine. We take our time and are able to plan our charge stops largely around meal breaks. My Partner and I live in N.E. Ohio and have driven ours from home to Santa Monica Pier in CA and back to Chicago and home again via Route 66. The Bolt is more than capable of being a cross country EV. I will say that the 2022 and up Bolt is not a new generation car. It's a Mid Cycle enhancement where all of it's changes are purely cosmetic.

Good review. I am not sure why people need a numeric value of the SoC. Your channel has mentioned it so many times. Why? Does your fuel gauge in your ICE cars state how many gallons? No, you know you have a 20 gallon tank and if the tank is on half full you know you have 10 gallons. Not sure how numerical SoC benefits you more than knowing your DTE. Been driving for 30 years now and never have I needed an actual numerical value of what is in my fuel tank. We see it in phones and for some reason think we need that in anything with a battery.

No complaints on my '23 Chevy Bolt EUV Premier. I had to order my Bolt from a dealer in Phoenix, AZ. It took 3 months to deliver and no mark-ups or add-ons. They even included tinted windows and door guards for free. My brother just picked one up at the same dealer and same deal. Now my sister has one on order and my brother in California has one too.

I find the refreshed bolt styling attractive. I also like that the dash has some brightwork trim on it. 250 miles of range is plenty for me for almost all my uses. The battery charge grid works just fine for the charge level. 100 miles of range per hour is a little low, but it can work for me. Especially at this price point. Most of my charging would take place at home anyway, and even level 1 charging could work a lot of the time. Say I only get one level 2 Charger and I have 2 electric vehicles, I could prioritize which one gets the level 2 charge based on our usage need.
@freeheeler09

Yep, the 250 mile range will work for us. And, we’d just plan on planning longer trips to 400 or so miles a day. And, we have solar on the roof of our house and can’t wait to be able to drive past expensive and dirty gas stations.
@yili9725
@yili9725 Жыл бұрын
just so you know, 250 miles ranges doesn't mean you can drive that long on a single charge. as you can see in the video screen, he used 30% for heating, and 70% for driving. meaning that his current charge's range is 175 miles. If you want to set a charging limit to 80% to protect your battery, then the range is even shorter.
@americanrambler4972
@americanrambler4972 Жыл бұрын
@@yili9725 250 miles is my benchmark. I am well aware of the large hit fore the using heating system. And I am also accounting for the 80% charging protocol. That is why I set my benchmark at 250 instead of 180 or 200. Most of the time my trips will be between 10 to 60 miles round trip. Occasionally up to 100 or 120. And my bladder no longer will last for more than 250 miles anyway. And I have no problem stopping every 100 to 150 miles for the bathroom break and to stretch my legs and get a snack or something to drink. My days of running the tank dry before I stop are over. I am much more relaxed in my driving than I used to be. Call it the gray hair mode of driving. I no longer am in such a hurry. But I do still like to stomp on it from time to time, but my wife makes an excellent speed minder. And I keep my speed minder alarm set in my van at 75 so to avoid participating in the blue light sweepstakes. Apparently, I still like to test out its function on a semi regular basis. My entertainment is to watch the instant mpg readout and see how I can keep both the mpg and mph numbers up at the same time.

Thank you! So often, the $7500 tax credit is portrayed as a given for everyone. Excellent explanation. We've had our Bolt EUV Premier for about a month. We love it! We traded in our Transit Connect Wagon because we were planning to put hand controls on our next car. With one-pedal driving, we won't need them. Our battery has never conditioned itself so far, even during the Christmas blizzard (Michigan). I called the service center at our dealer and left a message; we haven't heard back yet.

@@lizburgess4398 gotcha, I'm also a Bolt owner so welcome to the club! Your car will take care if the battery conditioning (heating or cooling as needed) I think it is more aggressive with this if it is left plugged in, so on the coldest of days here in Minnesota I'm sure to keep it plugged in as I'm able. Just don't charge to 100% if you don't need the extra range. Shoot for around 80% daily charge if you can.

I have a 2019 Bolt with the new battery. The 259 mile range is with the battery full charge at 80%. This plus the slower charge rate (that you noticed) should allow the battery to last for decades. It was the price that hooked me. I believe the cheapest Tesla that I could get online was $42K, and that was with rear wheel drive which I don't like in the winter.. You are right, the tires are scary. I just shelled out $750 for Blizzak tires and now it's the best winter car I've ever had. If you have 2 cars and can charge at home, it's kind of stupid to waste $200 to $300 dollars per month on gasoline, when you can get a new car for almost the same price. (my opinion here)
