FIRST DRIVE: The CR-V is redesigned for 2023 and Honda tried to make some bi changes. This compact SUV competes with the Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAv4, Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. On the outside of the EX-L trim you will fin LED headlights, gloss black grill, and new sheet metal. On the outside there is a new interior based off the Honda Civic, 9in infotainment screen, and leather seating. Under the hood the is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 190HP & is mated to a CVT. Is the 2023 Honda CR-V a new SUV worth the PRICE?

@@qnzman578 Honda has been doing this fuckery for 10 years now. You pay more to get less features. Then push you to buy an Acura, to help their struggling sales. That's why you have consumers like @Rexeroni Productions, make comments like that, because that's what they believe you have to do. It's not 90s and 00s, anymore! You don't have to buy an Acura or a Lexus, to get luxury features and tech. When the Koreans was doing it, other brands was taking noticed, including Toyota! Toyota never had a panoramic roof and ventilated seats, until the Koreans was doing it. So, I stand by what I said. Honda dropped a ball. They rely too much of their brand recognition, and not what's on demand in the market.

I think I know what it might be. This generation all trims have LED headlights standard. Last model only the upper trims had them. Otherwise they were halogen. Nonetheless I agree with you because LEDs are NOT expensive anymore. It's especially asinine how no matter what trim you get on this new CR-V you will still be stuck with incandescent rear turn signals. Even worse I bet the reverse lights are LED across all trims now which is very stupid considering how little they light up compared to how much the turn signals are used (or at least should be used). Same BS Honda pulls with the Acura RDX

I can’t come from a sedan with a 2.0 and downgrade to a 1.5 tiny engine. Even if they add a turbo or hybrid, it’s underpowered for such a heavy vehicle and long term reliability is questionable since that tiny engine will be overworked hauling around all that weight/ being that tall with more wind resistance. Dealer markups will be thru the roof. But that’s just me.

I feel Honda should have increased the power for the 2023 CRV's upwards of 200HP and bring in the 2.4L engine which had lesser issues when compared to the 1.5L engine. For that EXL price point: not having Fog lamps, LED back turning indicator bulbs, USB connectivity for the back passengers is a big negative when we compare it with the competition. Seat design and headrests look like they are from a 1992 Pontiac. No LED turn signals. Just feel like others like Kia Sportage blows this out of the water on Tech and overall curb appeal. Unless they’ve significantly improved the CVT drive characteristics, then I would zonk that too. Also, rear qtr window design looks dated already. Again, other Compact SUVs that Joe has reviewed have better more updated design flair and flash than this Honda. I’m a lifelong Honda owner (Civic and Accord) but I think Honda has missed the high bar that this segment has and has come up short compared to others.

Once you are moving in these things, on a dry road, the 4wd system won't send any power to the back so whether it maxes at 40 or 50 %, no matter. The old model had a display option showing how torque was split. Be surprised if this one doesn't. Don't hat would show you for sure. Also there's such a slow initial launch with these things I doubt there's any need for torque transfer on dry roads either. Though it may do some to pre - empt the possibility. Off road or in snow or wet or even on steep inclines different story. The 1.5 has evolved into a decent engine, after a raucous origin in the Fit. But will never be a K series substitute.

No, it's overpriced, the 1.5L has poor reliability history, and it's a slow vehicle with a CVT transmission. If you must buy Honda and are willing to spend this type of money buy the Accord Sport 2.0T or step up to the Odyssey or Acura RDX which also offers the more reliable 2.0T. If you want an SUV and want to spend this kind of money look at the CX-50 and Toyota RAV4.

As long as it's not 50k, it's underpriced. Honda's inventory is down to 1/4 of its size in 2019. If they don't overcharge, they'd go bankrupt. But on the flip side, two or three years from now, any car that you buy today would be worth way more because there's simply no inventory. Imagine universities or medical schools only produce 1/4 of the graduates, those students are going to get PAID.

Bigger and longer, definitely heavier, not sure why Honda decided to put a tiny 1.5 engine. Adding turbo chargers on small engines is very popular nowadays with automakers but the longevity of it is not yet tested.

I gave up on CRV's when 2015's came out with that weird cheap CVT transmission. It only got worse from there with the 1.5L turbo, they are not going forward with engineering. Backwards in my opinion. We are still driving our 2014 EX-L, its got 63,000 on it going strong. Not sure what the wife will be driving next but not a lot of good engineering choices out there these days. Engineers seem to be going backwards in a lot of areas. Perhaps a XC40 Volvo is in the future for her.

Obviously Honda is pushing for hybrid sales. If you have a 20-22 with low miles I would be hard pressed to upgrade to the non hybrid models. Not enough change for me plus I like some of the exterior styling elements on the older model. Hopefully the new pilot is brings some more excitement. I think Honda made a big mistake by choosing to just “bolt on” the infotainment screen like they have with the Accord and Civic. It looks so tacky and goofy. I own a 2017 CR-V and it is very obvious why they didn’t change much it much through the 2022 model. I’ve owned a slew of vehicles and my CR-V is the best all-around vehicle. Easy to drive, smooth, quiet, powerful, 35-40 mpg, huge interior. I’m sure the 2023 model will have all of this, but I can’t get past the goofy screen. The Hyundai people did their best to imitate the CR-V’s feel and functionality, and have come out ahead.
