I had a 95 mustang gt 5.0, built the top end and did exhaust, gears, etc. Got done, had about 5k in the mods. Old dude at the shop told me I coulda built two chevys for that much. Looked it up, he was right, burn lol. Good car though, I had it for years, was my daily driver from about 24-30 years old.

Using a 40 year old factory GM 400 against a 1995 Ford is a bit of an unfair comparison, they didn't imagine 700hp factory motor in those days. Mine is a Dart SHP block it will hold over 1000. I didn't want to build a factory 400 either, you make some good points. --Ford had a better cylinder head there a few times that helped things. (The good old days when American made was actually.. u know, made here unlike the imported "American" made stuff today)

I wanted a little more pep for my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis so I swapped out my 4.6 for a 2-valve 5.4 with Comp Cam Stage 3 camshafts and PI heads. Swapping out the 2.73 rear gears for 3.73s next. Can care less about racing. Just wanted to make the car more fun to drive and so far it is.

I remember you 😏. It's outrageous what it costs to build these mod motors but if done right they hold the power and just keep trucking. I will admit I loved my Vic ( black on black , lowered 2.5 inches , j mod , exhaust , giant stereo ) after that one got jacked I sold all my other projects because of how easy it was to steal. The best thing a person can do for a power bump and be easy on the wallet is a 5.4 swap ( non PI with pi heads and the pi intake from the 4.6 ) using the same similar cam as you have, a loose torque converter, long tubes and 3.91/2 final gear with a j mod. You'll be able to blow through tires with ease and it will make that tank perform like a much smaller car. I forgot, hands down the best bang for buck mod a person can do on a panther is a 5 or 6 speed swap. It was a night and day change with just a stock 4.6 😈 the 4r70e/w had the worst gear ratio known to man, it's worse than gm's 700r4 .

honestly the stock crank and block can handle 7-800rwhp reliably. new pistons and rods are about 900, cams for 700, blower for 3-4k if you can snag one on marketplace, 900ish for a trans rebuild, 600 for a clutch, 1500 for a fuel system. the stock heads perform pretty close the trickflow set once ported and given some bigger valves. honestly you could have a 700whp warrior for roughly 12-15k. car included

Well I'm about 30k into my entire drive to include the Engine with the KB 2.8 LC blower, with a little laughing gas and some water meth to quinch the thirst. Wasn't a bad investment at all. Definitely shocked the hell out of a Fox Body with a 200 shot and a 2014 ZL1 at the track and I was on the street tune without my 50 shot. And I still can go down a pulley size for more boost. And to add some numbers for your viewers: paid about 5500 for the Iron block with internals, 700 for blowers cams (that I didn't need), 9k for the blower with the 8 Rib setup, and almost 5k transmission with the goodies. Big shout out to you bro! Found out you was from the M today! Keep up the good work! Subscribing now!

@johnnyhotstuff1

@@taylorsrus9543 No, not at all. The setup would probably reach the 800s with a pulley swap and an aggressive tune. 80 lbs Injectors, lines and pump support up to 800 ish. Would have to upgrade the system for more than that. As of now, I still have never used the NOS or ran the car on the race tune. Only dyno'd and tuned for the settings. So probably not swapping the pulley until I've played with the car some more. Overall, its not bad for a 2002 GT with a 2 valve block and stock rear gears.

@@taylorsrus9543 I feel you. Newer engines can handle more power from the jump. B the tech is very relevant. Just bells and whistle that I desired for my setup. Window switches for the NOS water meth. Meaning it comes on and shuts off without me having to push anything. Command switches to warm, open, and purge on a hidden panel. Transbrake integrated in the transmission. Beefed up splines, aluminum drive shaft. Even trick flow head that I didn't need. Honestly, the blower setup alone would have put down 701 to the tires on 93. But some people just want a little more just because. And of course there's the labor for all the gadgets installed. A buddy of mines did a single turbo on a built block and spent half of what I did making more on E85.

I built my 4.6 for $1260. Forged (-18cc) manley pistons, factory crankshaft, used factory forged rods out of a gen 2 5.0, and studs. On top of that i replaced some wearables but as far as "building" the bottom end, it was $1260 for forged pistons/rods, arp head studs and arp mains. $500 port job on a PI set, $500 deck and valvejob, $160 springs, and running stock cams on boost right now. My stage 2 turbo cams are still 8 weeks out. I've got about $3k in the motor total. That's with a melling hv, oem timing, oem followers and lash adjusters. The car is boosted junkyard style. Transmission swap cost me about $1800 including custom driveshaft. All in all these are not particularly affordable engines to work with, but they're not that bad. My goal was to build a poor man's version of a coyote lol. I build transmissions, engines and turbos for a living so i had a head start on resources. Transmission is an MT82. One of my mt82 cores had a gaping hole in the to of the bellhousing but was a good core internally. Since no customer would want it i built it for myself. Technically I put about $600 in it but already had all the parts on hand since i build these By the way this is an 01 f150 extended cab. It's a rear mount turbo set up right behind the cab on passenger side in the bed. I spent about $200 in intake piping/elbows etc, $100 for exhaust piping and turbo flange. I had a HX40 core laying around from an 8.3L Cummins worth about $100. Threw in some journal bearings for about $20 and ran it. Retains factory exhaust until pipe gets to the bed of the truck. Exhaust pre-turbo is coated and heat wrapped. Its a small turbo and spool is practically instant despite being a rear mount. Oiling is easy because the turbo is much higher than the oil pan. I dyno'd the car @396whp, 441tq with this set up. Same day I bolted in a 67/67/16 hx40 hybrid that i built and went 492whp and 498tq. Truck just runs out of breath with the stock cams and can't take advantage of the bigger turbo so I went back to the 60mm stock hx40. The truck suffocates at 5000+rpm and doesn't give the turbo a chance to build all of it's boost. With the new cams motor will rev out to 6800-7000rpm. When my cams do come in, I definitely intend on running the 67mm. I want a 12 second truck but need to keep it no higher than 600 whp due to factory crank. Lots of people make way more than that on them but I play it safe. The whole project is a testbed for me. I build mt82's, I build holset turbos, and i build the triton motors for customers on a daily basis. I need a personal testbed as well as unique showcase for my work. It's an actual 1 owner grandpa truck with a camper and all. 350,000 miles on it. The intake tubing runs through the factory intake/airbox and it looks 99.99% factory under the hood. The turbo is contained inside of a truck bed aluminum tool box inside of the camper. It is a legit sleeper inside and out. Only way you will know is if you crawl under and see the exhaust piping take a detour 😂😂😂

I just put a PI intake on a 2000 Lincoln Cartier that originally was a Non-PI. The Non-Pi intake had a plastic coolant crossover that eventually will crack. The PI intake has a metal coolant crossover. The PI intake and gasket do not exactly match the non-PI heads on the left rear and front right water passages but a shot of silicone before gasket installation fixes that. Noticeable performance improvement. You have to reroute the water pump to heater core metal tube under the intake also. I have actually seen this swap done in one hour but it took me a couple of days. I used a PI intake from a local Pull-A-Part junk yard from a 2001 Lincoln Town Car.

I have a 04 New edge mustang I just wanna give this little 2v a fighting chance man this is my daily/ street mod Time attack car I have most of my money invested into the suspension literally every bushing has been replaced wilwood brakes, BC racing coils, panhard rod system, extended control arms, sway bars, anti roll bars, etc but I only have a Borla ATAK Cat-Back Exhaust, Spleab longtube headers, Trick Flow Intake Manifold, SR Performance Cold Air Intake, and some ITB’s I ripped off of a S65 BMW v8 I bought for 20 bucks off my sisters crashed m3 I fabricated my own bracket to make the ITB’s work with the 2v (sounds fantastic at high rpm) and a BBK Throttle Body Intake Plenum 78mm that’s about it in terms of engine performance Safe to say I’m already down a deep rabbit hole when it comes to money with my New edge stang lol

Stage 3 heads stage 2 turbo cams mhs 4.6k forged block decent kit for 1000hp is 3k t56 kit 7.5k mind you still need about 1k in bolts another 500 in gaskets going to need atleast a Bullitt oil pump or better for 250 racing oil pan 1k timing kit 1.5k head covers another 500-1000 depending what ones you get. Labor to put it together and in is 4k minimal. Now all that extra add ons like bbk 78mm throttle body 300 the eddlebrok vic jr intake manifold is roughly 1.7k for everything needed for the swap over including adapter plate for 78mm bbk throttle body modified fuel rails and fittings. Next are fuel injectors upwards of 1.5k for 1000hp versions. Mishimoto radiator is 600 metal expansion tank is 600 exhaust headers of good source upwards 600+ if you're smart and wanna turbo it for the low you'd get the f150 version of forward facing turbo manifolds with hot side cross over for 1.2k and have minimal fab work aka 1/4 inch off the hot side and re-weld. Mishimoto hoses 600 for all new. Holley ecu set up 5k for harness ecu and install. Now we say it's really not cheap to build them but if you do you gotta gem of an engine.

Agree I had a 99 gt a lifetime ago 2009, I did Trick flow heads, nsr stage 2 cams, long tunes, it made 298/330@ 6300 at the wheels, I spent right at $4500 doing all the work myself. My first mustang was a 93 gt i did whole top end Trick flow the 5.0 made a best of 288/340@5700 at the wheels. Cost me $3000 in 1999. Now I own a 12 3.7 mustang ported intakes, throttle body, intake runners on the heads, headers, tune .020 manley forge pistons and rods Cost me $1800. 3.7 made a best of 314/306 @ 7400. All of the mustangs ran/run 12.5-12.7. 106-109mph. the 2v wins the sound contest all day but is very expensive, Its a solid motor but pricy.

The 2v is as reliable as it gets n that makes it worth it for sure.. The Coyote can become a leaky son of a bitch that can't be fixed, shops I've been to have told me they hate working on them for that reason..lol You sound like you run n/a, I like n/a builds then boost, most just want to go boost for obvious cost vs power reasons, I get it.. The ppl spending $30-60k on a stock car are the main ones saying not to spend money on a 2v when a 2v can be built faster than their investment for much cheaper.. I'm team 2v all the way..

It's a good option. The m112 is good for a stock motor 2v and if you build it you can upgrade to a modern blowers that they make for terminators as well. That is why that kit is a good option imo. They don't make those kinds of blowers for the 2vs

Soo tbf I'm in the process of building one of these fully built mhs stage 3 pi heads and stage 2 turbo cams 4.2k . Custom exhuast headers and hot side 1.2k. Eddlebrok vic jr intake manifold 550 mhs modified fuel rail 250. 80lb detwerks fuel injectors 680. Dual 340lph detwerks fuel pumps 400. T56 transmission kit with bellhousing drive train and clutch 5.6k turbo I recommend on3 2.6k. Forged rotating assembly from mhs 2.2k. Mishimoto radiator 600. Bbk throttle body 78mm 300. Bbk cai 200. Steeda underdrive pulley kit 300. If you dont have a good rear end the 31 spline conversion is 1.2k from lmr.This kit would be you're reliable 800hp at the wheels monster daily. Boost guages are optional price for you're budget build but really when you break it down you're going to put 10k down on any car just about soo that being said you pay 5k for the new mustang or crown vic I'd buy the heads first then the rotating assembly get that out of the way and start my turbo build or supercharger kit. I get people want the raw power first but that's not reliable build it respect it and boost it.

I’m building a 4.6 2v. Kellogg crank, forged h beam rods, and pistons. Using an NPI iron block and putting ported PI heads on. Using npi block and pi heads bumps the compression up and gives a bit more HP. I’m gapping the rings for a little boost. Mated with a 3650 standard. It’s going in a crown Vic. Not building it for power, but for fun. And it was the last project I was planning with my Mom before she passed away last week so I’m all in on this one.

What does a whipple gen 3 5.0 cost? What TR3650 or T45 for that matter is going to take that things 7500RPM abuse for long? The coyote swap is getting to be a real close call but for now the pistons rods boost and fuel 2v edges it out pretty good $ per HP wise. Unless your looking for more than 700 to the wheel the 2v is the cheapest option. For now.
