I remember you 😏. It's outrageous what it costs to build these mod motors but if done right they hold the power and just keep trucking. I will admit I loved my Vic ( black on black , lowered 2.5 inches , j mod , exhaust , giant stereo ) after that one got jacked I sold all my other projects because of how easy it was to steal. The best thing a person can do for a power bump and be easy on the wallet is a 5.4 swap ( non PI with pi heads and the pi intake from the 4.6 ) using the same similar cam as you have, a loose torque converter, long tubes and 3.91/2 final gear with a j mod. You'll be able to blow through tires with ease and it will make that tank perform like a much smaller car. I forgot, hands down the best bang for buck mod a person can do on a panther is a 5 or 6 speed swap. It was a night and day change with just a stock 4.6 😈 the 4r70e/w had the worst gear ratio known to man, it's worse than gm's 700r4 .

I just put a PI intake on a 2000 Lincoln Cartier that originally was a Non-PI. The Non-Pi intake had a plastic coolant crossover that eventually will crack. The PI intake has a metal coolant crossover. The PI intake and gasket do not exactly match the non-PI heads on the left rear and front right water passages but a shot of silicone before gasket installation fixes that. Noticeable performance improvement. You have to reroute the water pump to heater core metal tube under the intake also. I have actually seen this swap done in one hour but it took me a couple of days. I used a PI intake from a local Pull-A-Part junk yard from a 2001 Lincoln Town Car.

its the fact that you can get so much power from so little openings for air. less moving top end means more reliable power in the long run which is why its more expensive. its still an amazing product for the price.

I built my 4.6 for $1260. Forged (-18cc) manley pistons, factory crankshaft, used factory forged rods out of a gen 2 5.0, and studs. On top of that i replaced some wearables but as far as "building" the bottom end, it was $1260 for forged pistons/rods, arp head studs and arp mains. $500 port job on a PI set, $500 deck and valvejob, $160 springs, and running stock cams on boost right now. My stage 2 turbo cams are still 8 weeks out. I've got about $3k in the motor total. That's with a melling hv, oem timing, oem followers and lash adjusters. The car is boosted junkyard style. Transmission swap cost me about $1800 including custom driveshaft. All in all these are not particularly affordable engines to work with, but they're not that bad. My goal was to build a poor man's version of a coyote lol. I build transmissions, engines and turbos for a living so i had a head start on resources. Transmission is an MT82. One of my mt82 cores had a gaping hole in the to of the bellhousing but was a good core internally. Since no customer would want it i built it for myself. Technically I put about $600 in it but already had all the parts on hand since i build these By the way this is an 01 f150 extended cab. It's a rear mount turbo set up right behind the cab on passenger side in the bed. I spent about $200 in intake piping/elbows etc, $100 for exhaust piping and turbo flange. I had a HX40 core laying around from an 8.3L Cummins worth about $100. Threw in some journal bearings for about $20 and ran it. Retains factory exhaust until pipe gets to the bed of the truck. Exhaust pre-turbo is coated and heat wrapped. Its a small turbo and spool is practically instant despite being a rear mount. Oiling is easy because the turbo is much higher than the oil pan. I dyno'd the car @396whp, 441tq with this set up. Same day I bolted in a 67/67/16 hx40 hybrid that i built and went 492whp and 498tq. Truck just runs out of breath with the stock cams and can't take advantage of the bigger turbo so I went back to the 60mm stock hx40. The truck suffocates at 5000+rpm and doesn't give the turbo a chance to build all of it's boost. With the new cams motor will rev out to 6800-7000rpm. When my cams do come in, I definitely intend on running the 67mm. I want a 12 second truck but need to keep it no higher than 600 whp due to factory crank. Lots of people make way more than that on them but I play it safe. The whole project is a testbed for me. I build mt82's, I build holset turbos, and i build the triton motors for customers on a daily basis. I need a personal testbed as well as unique showcase for my work. It's an actual 1 owner grandpa truck with a camper and all. 350,000 miles on it. The intake tubing runs through the factory intake/airbox and it looks 99.99% factory under the hood. The turbo is contained inside of a truck bed aluminum tool box inside of the camper. It is a legit sleeper inside and out. Only way you will know is if you crawl under and see the exhaust piping take a detour 😂😂😂

Bro people hate on the 4.6 it’s a great motor for a first sport oriented car I have one in my mustang and it’s my first car it has enough power for a newish driver I been driving since I was 11 and I’m 17 it doesn’t have to much power where it’s dangerous but it has some mods and it’s definitely fast enough
@livingweapon2 ай бұрын
yeah I thought about this for a long time seeing they still use the 4.6l to build the boss motors, I am looking at putting the 429 heads and headers and intake on the 4.6l and call it a day with that motor. I never been one to care about the 0-60 its more about the long haul. you're coyote motor is a 4.6l block bored out 4.6l block with a diffrent stroke, headers and and parts hooked up to a manual transmission

If it's not ford fast its ford tough. Alot of this engine also came from older models ford trucks that ig 1996-1999. I own one from 1999 f150 and surely they sound pretty cool in my opinion. They never game me problem other than filling my gas tank every once of week. They aslo had me buying antifreeze in the cold but surely starts right up. For all my 4.6 V8 owners they keep them maintain so they can maintain u.

People think it's so easy to coyotes swap but the wiring the control pack is what's going to hit you the hardest if you are not a diy guy
@eriv4735 Жыл бұрын
It’s not as hard as all that..if you have a modular motor and ECU already it’s a direct bolt in and takes no more time than a 4.6 replacement 🤷♂

Stage 3 heads stage 2 turbo cams mhs 4.6k forged block decent kit for 1000hp is 3k t56 kit 7.5k mind you still need about 1k in bolts another 500 in gaskets going to need atleast a Bullitt oil pump or better for 250 racing oil pan 1k timing kit 1.5k head covers another 500-1000 depending what ones you get. Labor to put it together and in is 4k minimal. Now all that extra add ons like bbk 78mm throttle body 300 the eddlebrok vic jr intake manifold is roughly 1.7k for everything needed for the swap over including adapter plate for 78mm bbk throttle body modified fuel rails and fittings. Next are fuel injectors upwards of 1.5k for 1000hp versions. Mishimoto radiator is 600 metal expansion tank is 600 exhaust headers of good source upwards 600+ if you're smart and wanna turbo it for the low you'd get the f150 version of forward facing turbo manifolds with hot side cross over for 1.2k and have minimal fab work aka 1/4 inch off the hot side and re-weld. Mishimoto hoses 600 for all new. Holley ecu set up 5k for harness ecu and install. Now we say it's really not cheap to build them but if you do you gotta gem of an engine.

Yeah but you spend just as much money on the swap as you would building the motor. You may as well just keep the motor intended for the car. 2v’s can be fast. My boys got one that makes 550hp he didn’t coyote swap anything.

Andrew lavender has minimal amount of money in a car that’s close to 1500 HP. With nothing but cobra crank, molnar rods, Diamond pistons, some cams and trick flow heads. $5000 worth of stuff. Half of you guys that are yapping don’t even or have ever owned a mustang. A stock 2V with ring gap will easily handle 550 to the tire and that’s in a 3200 lb car. Not 700 HP in a 4500 hellcat. I got my Blower from a young guy that rolled his parent vert GT and it was making 380 to the tire. A 550 hp fox or sn 95 can run 9’s with the right suspension and driver. Thanks for the laugh.

You could also just swap to Lincoln MKVII heads which from 93-98 were 4v heads. Then build something off that.

Soo tbf I'm in the process of building one of these fully built mhs stage 3 pi heads and stage 2 turbo cams 4.2k . Custom exhuast headers and hot side 1.2k. Eddlebrok vic jr intake manifold 550 mhs modified fuel rail 250. 80lb detwerks fuel injectors 680. Dual 340lph detwerks fuel pumps 400. T56 transmission kit with bellhousing drive train and clutch 5.6k turbo I recommend on3 2.6k. Forged rotating assembly from mhs 2.2k. Mishimoto radiator 600. Bbk throttle body 78mm 300. Bbk cai 200. Steeda underdrive pulley kit 300. If you dont have a good rear end the 31 spline conversion is 1.2k from lmr.This kit would be you're reliable 800hp at the wheels monster daily. Boost guages are optional price for you're budget build but really when you break it down you're going to put 10k down on any car just about soo that being said you pay 5k for the new mustang or crown vic I'd buy the heads first then the rotating assembly get that out of the way and start my turbo build or supercharger kit. I get people want the raw power first but that's not reliable build it respect it and boost it.

What does a whipple gen 3 5.0 cost? What TR3650 or T45 for that matter is going to take that things 7500RPM abuse for long? The coyote swap is getting to be a real close call but for now the pistons rods boost and fuel 2v edges it out pretty good $ per HP wise. Unless your looking for more than 700 to the wheel the 2v is the cheapest option. For now.

I have a 2005 Merc Mountaineer Premier with a 4.6L motor. How can I tell if it has got the 4 thread or 9 thread spark plug holes and how many valves? The more I look for information, the more confused I get. Found out the hard way on what valve cover I got by ordering the wrong one. Mine has 11 hold downs with 5 being on top. The one I got was a 12 hold down type with 6 on top. Any help would be great, thanx.

I’m thinking of doing a termination build then buy a 2013-2017 v6 mustang then doing the 5.0 or whatever build. But like the cluster gauge is what’s eating me with coyote swapping the new edge😂. Any tips or suggestions on this?

Being the owner of a 4.6L 2v, I just don't understand the folks that say it's "the best" engine Ford has made. I'm also the owner of a 96 5.0L HO engine. My 5.0 will whip the s*it out of my 4.6L (non-PI) everyday and twice on Sunday. Recently I was able to get my hands on a good 5.4L with PI heads. If they'll work on my 4.6, I'll be swapping them out. Hopefully I will see a difference in performance. No, I'm not racing it. It's in a 97 F-150 XLT 4X4 that's been heavily customized. It has a 2004 F-150 King Ranch interior, 6 inch lift, a complete Cerwin-Vaga stereo system (2 12's, 3 amps, and has hit 101 Db), as well as several other things. You know, the stuff we mechanics do when we get bored. Anyway, if I don't see a noticeable performance increase. I'll be doing an LS swap. My goal is around 600 wheel HP. I'm just not trying to break the bank doing it. Plus if I do end up doing an LS swap, it's not going to be a complete loss. My son is doing a body off retro-mod on a 1973 F-100. I'll just give him the 4.6L if he wants it. Maybe the 5.4L if its worth freshening up.

Or you could just get a completely forged bottom end. 63mm turbo and run like 30lbs of boost that will get you close to 650-750 at the crank.
