Last summer I recorded a video at home with my a7iii. I live in Spain, in a very hot city. It was terribly hot, no AC, two softbox... I thought the camera would turn off, but, to my surprise, it didn't! I wouldn't have worried if it did, because the conditions were so extreme. But two hours of 4k shooting and no problem, I was amazed.

This camera has so many features with so many ways to take pictures and it's going take time to not only learned its capabilities, but remember to use the right setting to shoot properly. The camera is like a machine gun and you only need to hit a few shots and the rest is just for fun.

The A7III is Sony's "entry level" full frame camera. It is meant for the consumer/enthusiast/prosumer. Within this group, while the newest tech is cool, but if you ABSOLUTELY NEED the newest tech, then the problem might not be the age of the tech or the camera, the problem may be the person who can't effectively take a picture without the newest tech. The photographer is the most important factor in capturing a compelling image. The tech might make it easier, but it is still the creativity, the knowledge and the talent of the photographer that will be the difference. If you are a pro, then yes there is a totally legitimate need for the best gear available. It you are photographing the Olympics then you NEED to capture the shot, and the tech will be a huge factor. An A9II may be a legitimate job requirement. If you are a professional landscape photographer, then the 61mp of the A7RIV might give you the resolution to take your images to the next level. At the entry level, however, in most cases, the skill of the photographer will be the determining factor.

This is all depending on whether the a7iv is a refresh or a completely new camera from the ground up. If they stack the current sensor it will be a beast. We can look at bells and whistles like flippy screens and such but the a7iii became a leader due to its actual photographic performance, flippy screen excluded and it's still a leader. The menu is way more configurable than a Canon yet people complain about it even when an update created a personal menu. Yes the evf and screen need updating and the settings for video should be remembered when switching back and forth from modes. Stack that sensor and give either two uhs2 slots or internal memory and one uhs2 slot. The body is fine I like it small for weight on a gimbal. I would buy it.

Ditching Sony for Fuji x-t3 here’s what I learned. 1. My Sony overheated quite often, I live in Florida. 2. 8bit 100mbs in 2020 is unacceptable! The 120fps video is ungradable it falls apart. 3. Color science is real and a big time saver at times. Skin tones on Sony look way too artificial. I color grade yes but not ALL the time. 4. AF is great but canon is better and Fuji is sooo close behind. Other thoughts: 1. You can get a Nikon z6 which can shoot 12bit prores externally if you want to do that down the road. 2. You can get the eos r which shoots internally higher 4K with a high data rate and 10bit externally. 3. Wait until Q2 of this year. Some incredible cameras are coming.

Dude, I agree with you. 8bit is the reason why I want to upgrade my camera. I got my Sony A7III last year and decided to sell it, because everyone here sells them. I think BMPCC 4K will fit my budget perfectly, maybe I'll get 6K version even, if save some money.
@adnan_velic
@adnan_velic 4 жыл бұрын
Alex Brightman man if you go with a bmpcc4k your video production quality is going to jump through the roof. This guy is saying specs don’t matter OF COURSE they do! 8bit compared to 12bit (a7iii vs bmpcc4k) is a huge leap forward. We’re talking about millions and millions more colors. The sensor although it’s m4/3s has a higher dynamic range and decent low light capabilities. Then again you are comparing a cinema camera to a stills camera. Video to me is much more important than still photography since EVERY camera even my wife’s 16MP G7 produces amazing pictures it’s not a big deal.

The A7iii is my next camera. I’ve got a canon 80D (APSC) and the Sony Rx100m6. I’ve enjoyed shooting with the mark 6, even with its tiny sensor. What I can’t decide is first lens. Candidates are: Sony 24-105 F4, Sony 35mm F1.8 or Sigma 24-70 F2.8. I noticed on the list the 16-35 f4 was the walk around lens of choice. Better fit than 24-105? Is there a first lens I’m missing? I shoot a canon Nano USM 18-135 variable now along with a full frame canon 70-300 Nano USM m2. I know I want to get away from variable glass if possible. I know the kit lens is variable but I’ve heard it’s even better than canons 28-70 kit lens. The camera is the easy choice, glass is the hard choice.

Hi Chris, Solid video. Agree again with what you’ve said on pricing/good value for money, color “preference”, screen resolution (I use EVF mostly so don’t have a problem), af, 120fps slomo, lowlight, plethora of other features, etc. are all so spot on! In fact, lately I’ve been using with my EOSR more but since your previous two recent videos, I went back to A73 today and the af is really fast and responsive. For me, I set the responsiveness at high and fast at standard, and the af transitions smoothly from blur images/background to being in focus (as if it’s done on purpose). Eastcore also did a good comparison and paraphrasing, “both EOSR and A73 are fast” but A73 is more intelligent with their af system. And I can see why it is in real world use. See their video (a bit dated but still relevant): Eastcore review of EOSR vs. A73. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmfWc4yaet-obtU Nevertheless, it goes back to “use the tools that works best and/or does what you need.” For stills, it’s the A73 and/or EOSR, depending on the projects/use cases. If it requires redundancy such as weddings and/or family events that cannot be repeated/recaptured, then I go with the dual slot A73. Same with sports and wildlife where I need fast shooting. Otherwise, I mix it up with EOSR for other use cases. For video, it’s S1H for heavy setup and where fast af is not required (using mostly manual). For light setup and run and gun, it’s EOSR for daylight and A73 for lowlight.

that statement about the EOS and A7iii is spot on, both are fantastic, but the A7iii is still far more intelligent. I really like that, thanks for sharing

Bought a7r2 a mounth ago for 1100$ in mint condition. The same 42mp sensor as in a7r3 for it's price seemed like a crazy deal for me. I think it is the best choice in 2020 if you are doing 80%+ photography,the IQ is really better than 24mp a73. The video quality in super35 is also great but don't recommend to buy it if you mostly shoot video.

@MoonbeamArcade
@MoonbeamArcade 4 жыл бұрын
@@CamillaI I haven't tried the A7R series so not sure. Part of the reason is if I'm going to spend that much on a camera, then it should have better OIS. Sony's OIS is just average right now that's why I stuck with the A73.

I Shoot with a Sony 24-105mm f4 G on A7 iii, general photograhy, primarily travel with variation of street, buildings, people, portrait, and some landscape. I also do some video coverage of the same. The equipment combination is practical, but, I’m not thrilled with rendering or sharpness. My question is would I achieve an improvement by upgrading the camera to A7 Riii and keep the 24-105mm? I would gradually add primes like Sony 24mm f1.4 GM, 55mm f1.8 &/or 85mm anyway, or should I keep the A7 İİİ and move to primes replacing the 24-105 zoom now? Either way, is the 24mm f1.4 GM the right one for my genre of photography. Many thanks

So quick and dumb question. Is the Sony A7iii worth getting a zoom lens with a greater range of zoom 28-200mm but supposedly it weighs a brick or get the kit lens that goes up to the 70mm and be happy with that. So many lens and my teacher is like get one with the 2.8 stop, but I'm like "Sure but it is only 70mm at full zoom". Or if 70mm is not a good enough range, what glass do you recommend? And what do you consider too heavy for a lens, a lens + body combined mass, and body mass only? Travel hobbyist photographer getting his first camera, mother has a Sony alpha nex-r5 and thought it'd be a good upgrade for the two of us since we like her E-mount Sony camera, but I'm not sure if the weight and high cost of lens is worth it. Please be constructive and not roast the noob. ^_^

Wdym is it still worth buying in 2020? It’s still the latest A7 model out from Sony so of course it’s worth buying. Still has basically the best low light performance of practically every camera and dynamic range and color range that matches all the top cameras so it’s still at the top of the pack two years after release, which is incredible.

I have the Sony a AX 700 for video and this camera for stills and I can shoot video on it of course as well😊 for the Sony a7iii I made a ridiculously low price offer to someone on eBay and they surprisingly took it and I did the same thing with the video camera so I ended up with both of them for roughly $2000. I’m just throwing that strategy out there for anyone who wants a Camera but I can’t afford it like myself.

And I think it's funny, we see a bunch of people still using "old" Canon cameras, like 5D mark iii and IV, 6D mark II and so on! 3 years isn't old if that camera is still pretty good for you, and fit your needs! We have to get out of KZbin consumer frenzy on geting the latest and greatest, just because have the last tech, I would get the one that fits my needs
