Mazda also used to make light bulbs. The company nearly went under in the mid seventies with the oil crisis...hundreds of rotary cars sat unsold in U.S. shipping docks. Then the GLC was released which sold like hot cakes with it's conventional piston engine. They also faced financial difficulties on the 90's and released the Protege series which was conservative and because of this, appealed to a wide buyer set and again sold well. Confirmed Mazda freak here...

CarBricksCity ; Disagree CBC. Take my ST3 add RWD to the already FWD MK3 platform and you have a $32-$33K car tops. The Focus RS was ALL OUT NUTS 350hp/350lbs AWD and was so expensive because just like with the ST they could have tripled sales if they put in a slushbox. If it would have saved the car then I guess I am all for it. I’m not buying anything automatic but that’s what sells. I saw a COP the other day who didn’t know how to drive a manual!!!!!

People always seem to be negative towards the NA 2.5. But I think allot of people don't realize that you NEED to put it into sport mode if you're going to be doing any kind of agressive driving past casual passing and merging. Just putting the shifter into manual mode doesn't help and is really for going down hills so you don't end up riding the brakes too much, but manual mode plus sport mode makes things allot more fun. Putting this drive train into sport mode does a nunber of things. First off the line acceleration goes from smooth and linear to very abrupt with excellent low end punch followed by a power band that keeps building power until redline, next overall throttle response goes from smooth and more or less semi agressive, to very responsive and punchy, lastly the transmission in sport mode shifts very fast, rev matches on down shifts and basically goes into every gear you need it to without trying to save on fuel. Basically sport mode brings the 2.5 NA and 6 speed auto into a whole other level of performance, one that doesn't disappoint.
@RaitisRides5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that great input! Thanks you for watching!

Honestly I just drive it in manual mode controlling the revs on demand and thus the torque. It’s plenty quick with smooth shifts. I just bought a 20 3 hatch and I laugh at people who think it’s slow. It’s very quick off the line. I drive mostly city and at end of 2nd gear I’m already at 60 mph.

In EU - strike out. Exterior, interior and equipment punch above class, yet the only available powerplant is well below the competition. Just what I was expecting. Glad I bought the 2018 rather than this "updated model." Look what Motor Trend says: "The final decision in this comparison wasn't difficult. Although the new 3 has great styling and a premium interior, the changes made to its suspension and powertrain and its lack of standard safety technologies kept it from earning top honors. The new Mazda3 is still fun to drive, but it doesn't have the same character it used to. If you're cross-shopping between these two cars, you should also know that the Mazda has worse fuel economy numbers. The Civic, on the other hand, continues to deliver on everything it promises. It can be sporty when you want it to be fun and quiet when you need a peaceful ride. Its value, standard equipment, and interior space are superior to Mazda's, and it simply continues to be the best car in its class."

Raiti, would love your expert opinion. I’m looking for a somewhat fun, somewhat practical, daily driver in Los Angeles. I’ve been looking at the Veloster Turbo Ultimate, Mini Cooper S, GTI, Civic Si, and the Elantra GT N. A lot of options, but if it were your money what would you pick the Mazda 3? Or is there another car you’d recommend? Smashed the Liked button! Thanks in advance 🙏

If it was my money and I didn't car about driving stick I would go with the Veloster N.

Thanks for the reply! If you had to pick an automatic.. what would you choose? Anything under 40,000$ is fair game. I drive the 405 and 101 daily. Thanks again in advance.

You must hate all modern cars as most of this tech is standard or will be standard for most cars

I test drove a few of these a couple days ago and loved them, just wish they had the 2.5 turbo in them and i would get one today

AGREED!!!!
@mrsnapfish135 жыл бұрын
Cleezus Also agreed! Mazda said the 2.5T will fit. They also said that the AWD drive train can hook up with the 6M transmission. Why this holy trinity has not been combined and sold yet is beyond me because if it happened, I’d have it in my driveway in five minutes lol. It would be a WRX competitor and with Subaru not selling a WRX hatch until (rumored 2020, we’ll see), they have a chance to snag some hot-hatch sales!

Where are the pads to switch gears on the steering wheel?
@gabep12815 жыл бұрын
Nice review. Looks like a great car but I loved (and desperately miss my MS3) and was hoping this car could "potentially" make another ms3 gen but with the msrp marked at 26k for the ride you reviewed, a ms3 would defenately miss the the price point with the suspension upgrades they would have to do on it. I guess I am a dying breed.

I like the sedan a lot better. Too bad they don't offer a manual transmission for a sedan.
@RaitisRides5 жыл бұрын
So very true! Here is the great news! i also reviewed a sedan as well! Stay tuned!

Luckily I like the hatch more. But yes they should offer manual in all its trim and in sedan.

@@RaitisRides but why? others calling it hunchback. Oh well I also prefer hatch over sedan maybe because of space at the back.

Hatch...looks better imo and more space and most importantly, Manual!
