I hate when the salesmen HAVE to go with you! I have found that I have researched a car/SUV so throughly by the time I drive it - that IF I have a question, they can never answer it. So why are they there?? They should know more about the vehicle than I do if they are selling it!! A bit off topic I know, but just my thoughts....

You bring up such a great point! So many sales people are so under trained.
@georgepantoja85765 жыл бұрын
That's completely up to the salesman. I've been selling Ford for only 5 months now, used to work for Honda and I know more than a lot of them that have been selling Fords for years. We do get a lot of product knowledge training. You just have to be a car enthusiast to really appreciate those details that a real client will ask you about. But remember, we sales people have a LOT of cars to learn every aspect of them. Sometimes we learn as much as we can. Be fair.
@jessewheeler26525 жыл бұрын
Work in car sales. I rarely if ever go with customers on test drives. I even tell them, I want you to drive it how you normally would and take it on part of your commute to see how it works in your day-to-day. There are times I allow my customers to take a test drive overnight. Living in a small town makes that much easier but still, a good experience works wonders and like you said, most customers have done alot of research and just want to try it alone.

@@jessewheeler2652 Thank you.. that is awesome. Most of the time I just need help learning how to work certain aspects of a vehicle (they are more complicated now) Months ago I wanted to know how to remove the privacy cover in the back (suv) and put it under the mat... they could NOT figure it out!! Then I wanted to know how to adjust the height of the back hatch (since it can be set lower to not hit your garage door) and... yep, they could NOT show me how. I have more... but those are a few examples. It is frustrating. Basic "working details" are important to buyers. After a few days of the buying process they finally could show me... but I expect them to know then, not days later.

@@cavlizzy I agree 100%! I thoroughly research before going. Often, the sales force talks down to me. I have to bite my lip not to say something. I found one sales guy who knew little about his own brand. I mentioned that I learn a lot from youtube reviews (thanks Joe). He replied 'I don't watch that crap.' Crap? How does he know if he never watches any? I'm pretty sure I knew more about the SUV then he did, lol. They sit around bored when they could learn more about their own vehicles.

Other contractors were paid by Ford to walk these lots and bang body panels into "proper" fitment with rubber-coated mallets (I shit you not) - worst product launch I've ever witnessed. Not to mention weather stripping on the window peeling off while just sitting there. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. "Bad"? Hardly. The new Escape is perfectly positioned to capture the portion of the market for whom a "utility" vehicle means carrying a lot of stuff in a compact package rather than off-roading. The forthcoming Bronco will undoubtedly lean toward the other end of that dimension. The three cylinder 1.5L engine with cylinder deactivation looks to be an interesting design. Competitive in terms of HP with rivals' base engines, the larger individual cylinders combined with a turbocharger suggests relatively strong torque out of a small engine. Add in cylinder deactivation for highway cruising and owners may actually achieve the EPA fuel economy numbers. Further, Ford is offering two other engine options; a NA 2.5L four banger combined with hybrid technology and a 2.0L turbo 4 with over 250 HP. A broad spectrum of choices with several sweet spots.

I currently own a 2014 Escape SE with the 2.0 turbo. Today, I needed to get an inspection (PA), so they gave me this very car as a loaner. It too has the 1.5l and the main thing I miss already is that 'grab' you get from the 2.0. Once the turbo kicks on that thing, you know it. The 1.5l is eh... I was surprised to learn that it HAS a turbo because the acceleration is pretty much a smooth ramp up. One thing I CANNOT agree with you on is the internal sound. The 1.3 is WAY louder inside and my SO agrees. It's not terrible, but it IS noticeable. I find it hard to believe that my 2.0 turbo is somehow less loud than the 3 banger, but there we are. That said, it does ride less stiff (but retains great handling), has more space laterally, and has a much more visible screen in the center (larger, at least). It seems like Ford is listening to its customer base. I hated, Hated, HATED that the map light had to be turned on by reaching back and to the left (as a driver). The extra space side to side is a definite bonus for the XL set. The SYNC system seems less complicated and certainly has more features that my old 2014 does. They replaced the 'paddle' cruise control to something more familiar and easier to set. More space in the center console is good (I do miss the shifter though), and having both a USB AND a 12v adapter up there is smart. Still seems a little on the pricey side - especially with a 3 cyl engine. I don't care HOW efficient it is, it's not as smooth and noisier. And don't get me started on start/stop tech. Wake me up when that's backed up with a hybrid motor to get a car started from a stop, ala Prius. I hate that hesitation - thankfully you can turn that crap off. Will wait for the Plugin version and test drive it, as I have a charging station for my Volt and it won't mind sharing.

First thought, besides how awful the front end is and the hideous interior is that we need to move up to the SEL trim to get the 2.0L engine. Which kills any thought of a budget vehicle that can tow. Curious when they did away with the SD card slot for the audio system. I greatly prefer that to using a USB drive.

I'm watching this video (and other 2020 Escape reviews) mainly for the engine. Why? I'm interested in the Bronco Sport, and it runs on the same platform and engine configuration as the Escape. With what you said about the Escape overall, I'm actually interested your review on the Bronco Sport whenever you get the chance to test drive one.

👎👎👎 I predict the 2020 Escape is going to be a flop. I was considering buying a 2019 Escape Titanium but now I'm reconsidering Ford altogether. I'm absolutely HATING the redesign & can't stand the rotary gear shifter, HATE the cheap looking tablet screen sticking out like a sore thumb (prefer it in the dash), hate the changes to the body, etc. Huge fail. I don't know what they were thinking. To me it looks like a Mazda. I rented a 2019 Escape Titanium in Kauai & put 400 hard driven miles on it & was so impressed I wanted one immediately. The Curve Control technology is impressive. I was absolutely flying down Waimea Canyon's crazy switchbacks and it senses when car is going too fast around curves & will slow the car down for you... it practically drove itself. I also love the auto stop/start for city driving. For those that don't know, the car engine shuts off when you are stopped for more than a couple seconds & then starts right back up when you let foot off brake. I liked the infotainment system but had some quirks getting music off my phone to sync up but probably my fault on that. Stereo 10 speakers system very nice... Titanium definitely the way to go w/245 HP. Loved the auto lift tailgate, LOVED the key fob, no more fumbling around for keys... just pull handle twice to open door without touching the fob as long as fob is on your person... They should've just made improvements on the 2017-2019 gen. Once folks see the 2020, Ford will have no trouble getting rid of any remaining 2019 Escapes on dealer lots. Chippy has spoken.

I can't understand why Ford only offers the same cheap looking door panels across all of the various trim levels on the Escape. They look like they should be on the inside of a packing crate, and they even went so far as to swap out the soft touch panels in front for hard plastic panels in the rear. Now *THAT'S* cheap! When you think about just how much visual and tactile real estate the four door panels occupy on a vehicle's interior, and the fact that the entry level model with the three cylinder engine gets the exact same treatment as a turbo in the top level Titanium trim, you have to wonder what they were thinking. Ford has been letting the Bean Counters win out over the Designers for decades. The Santa Fe Ultimate's interior makes the Escapes look like a taxi by comparison.

Honestly, like the front end better on the 2017- 2018 model but the rest of this is not bad, dash is a definitive improvement. If it had been the 3 cylinder hybrid system, then I would consider it a better vehicle, but just a 3 cylinder keeps bringing up my past memory's of driving a Metro as a porter for a Chevy dealer in the early 90's. Yikes that 3 cylinder was bad. This 3 cylinder sounds and seems to drive better (via your video) than that Metro. Hopefully this Escape has better crash protection than the 2018 and older models. The older Escapes are apparently death traps. Which is sad, cause I tested a 2.0 liter 2017 and still believe it to be the most enjoyable or fun to drive small SUV out of the many others currently available. After testing all of these small SUV's, decided to just buy myself a new sedan a few weeks ago.

The Ford Escape is dead. Long live the Focus XL. Because that's all this new vehicle is. The "crossover" that crossed back over. I own a 2017 Escape (last generation that is an actual SUV). I checked out a 2020 Focus XL (Escape) yesterday. This thing is a car. A raised hatchback. As far as I'm concerned, it does not compete with the Rav4, CR-V, CX-5, etc. anymore. Those are proper looking SUVs, with the appropriate ride height and compact SUV looks. This thing sits too low. And could they have made it any more generic looking? I've seen reviewers fawning over the new "styling." What styling? I dare you to show me any major differences in exterior styling from the previous Focus. And as far as interior styling, could they have gone any plainer? With the exception of the silly-ass tablet sticking out from the dash (an automotive trend that needs to die right now) and the rotary shifter, this is a very bland looking interior. My 2017 Escape has rear seats that actually fold flat with the cargo area. (You know...like an SUV?) This new dud does have improved rear seat legroom, I'll give it that. But the rear seats don't fold flat, giving you an annoying ramped floor for your cargo to shift around on. The only saving grace may be the new hybrid powertrain. Ford EcoBoost engines have rarely ever met their EPA ratings for mileage in real world driving. (I get around 23 mpg at 75mph interstate driving from my 2.0 EcoBoost.) It remains to be seen whether the new 8 speed will improve things in the real world. Maybe the new 3-cylinder gets good mileage, but I'll never know, because a 3-cylinder with cylinder deactivation is only appropriate for garden tractors in my book. If I'm paying $30k + for a vehicle, it's going to have an appropriate powertrain. Either the hybrid 2.5 system or the 2.0 EcoBoost. Hopefully the new "baby Bronco" (Bronco Sport, I hear?) will be largely based on the Escape platform and give us back a true compact SUV option from Ford. Because it's quite obvious from this new Focus XL that Ford is definitely still building a car.

Mike Vaquero Ugh, im with you. I own the 2017 Ford Escape SE 2.0 and i think the Focus XL will not be able to compare to it, BUT. They are planning to make another SUV/CUV the same size has the Escape, but higher and more capable, but not as rugged as the bronco. so not all hope is lost yet.
