Test drove this car this past weekend and it handled great very smooth ride and great feel behind the wheel, but there are two major drawbacks that will prevent me from even considering it. First the roof line is way too low when getting into the car, the seat must be put all the way down in order for a 5 foot 10 person to get in without hitting his head and to make things worse Volkswagen did not give the seats easy in easy out activation meaning they do not lower automatically when you turn the car off. So basically you need to adjust the sea every time you get in and out, without re-adjusting the seat, I could not get out of the car and that is also a major safety issue how is this ever passed safety is beyond me. The second issue is with the digital cockpit Display, why they would put eight point type in something you need to see clearly is beyond believe. It is incredibly difficult to read and illumination at maximum is barely readable. Two major flaws makes this a no go for me.

I watch about 10 reviews a night and I rarely see these guys have more than 1 trim level at a time from a manufacturer to show us. I think your best bet if you want that much variety brought to you if you are seriously in the market, then go to manufacturer website so you can click on what you want to see. These guys only have enough time to show us 1 car at a time.
@rugger81364 жыл бұрын
Joshua Rutter 10 reviews a night? You must watch a lot of reruns. I made my comment after watching several other videos from the same event where an SE trim model was shown.. so it was definitely there to show. Either way, it was a suggestion ;)
@2004cyrus4 жыл бұрын
rugger8136 not reruns. There are tons of reviews. I watch them for all vehicles not just Volkswagens. And despite you seeing multiple cares there a lot of viewers don’t want to see a cloth car with small wheels they want to see the nicer models. Most reviewers don’t show the base models, it’s rare: the easiest resource if you are in the market for a lesser trim is the visit the VW website and watch videos of all the trims you wish to see and get detailed pricing. My family owns some car dealerships so I like to keep up by watching all these reviews each night. It relaxes me. I love to see what these guys say. Lots of misinformation out there.

First, I got to admit that I'm biased, since I've owned a Passport since March-2019. I do love the styling of the VW SUV's they look awesome and much better than the Honda's who get their styling cues from Stevie Wonder! Next, having previously worked in automotive for about 20 years (Dealership, OEM Parts Mfg, Parts Distributors, Auto Repair Shop & Automotive Machine shop) and having both friends and family own VW's, reading JD Powers reports and untold numbers of published comparisons, I would NEVER buy a VW. Their reliability reputation is horrible. If "you" have one that has been super reliable, then consider yourself lucky. I'm on a Passport Forum and I can't tell you how many people there - dumped their late model VW SUV's for Passports and they had nothing but bad things to say about their VW's, most of them losing money to move on from them. Comparing new vehicles off the showroom floor does not tell the entire story, you been warned and go ahead and buy what you want, it's your money...cheers!

Cannot wait to go drive the Cross Sport mid-February, but I do have to say this: VW shortening their vehicles has been something they have been doing since the dawn of the Golf and Wagon (being that the Golf and Golf/Jetta Sportwagens are the same vehicles, just the wagen (Wagon, I know, but VW) being 18" longer. I don't think this is something they are necessarily ripping from Honda, but more of bringing to more of their vehicles. Also, Fender audio is standard on SEL Premiums, and the infotainment center is standard on all VW now(: Very happy with how far VW has come

I love the styling of this, with the exception of some of the cheaper-looking / plastic interior. Although every single person I’ve mentioned this to so far says there is no way they would buy a VW because they are 1) overpriced 2) unreliable 3) expensive to service 4) that emissions scandal from a while ago and they don’t trust this brand at all - so I am wondering what others think of this? If it weren’t for these things, this would probably be my next vehicle, but I would not feel good about putting money torward this with all that I’ve heard so far. Would love to hear the opinions of others watching this (good or bad).
@78Ford3514 жыл бұрын
Those are all great points that you have made. I have had a couple Volkswagens because I enjoyed the way they look and drive but you are correct with all of those points. Now I drive an Acura and I have been generally worry free. My last VW was a 2014 VW GLI I bought in 2016 which I honestly miss, but SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ended up costing me $700. Not a repair, the maintenance needed to keep your vehicle operating the way it was engineered to operate. Now imagine actually repairing it. I also got a great deal on it so the previous owner must have taken a steep hit on depreciation in just two years, close to 60% the cars original price. I ended up selling it because the cost to own was too much and the vehicle would not have lasted nearly as long as a Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus. Sold it in just 2 years and I was lucky I sold it for just about what I owed so I made out even. If I would have bought the Acura two years ago I would have it halfway paid off. If you are valuing your dollar in a car purchase, try to stay away from VW. Some people lease cars every couple years and do not feel the need to keep one vehicle long term and have it paid off. There is nothing wrong with that, everyone chooses to do what is right for them. But if that is not you and you want to own a vehicle long term.... my best advice would be to get a Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus, but if you don’t want to shop there then there’s a lot you can do in and a lot of brands in between the long term value of those two and ultimately the long term value of a VW. In this segment I would buy Mazda CX5, Acura RDX, Lexus RX. Hope I helped! Good luck and whatever car you chose make absolute sure you work to ensure you are getting the best price possible
@angela-r4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Botello Thank you so much! Yes, you have definitely helped with this. I also like to own a car for a long time and drive it paid off with no payments for as long as I can. It sounds like the VW is NOT a good choice for me, so I will be staying away from that. I actually love the CX5 too, but there have been so many complaits about their infotainment system that I couldn’t make the decision. Still waiting to see if/when they improve that. Thank you so much for your tips!

When it comes to a car the power isn't the only thing that matters. Look at the Blazer V6 vs Edge ST. The Edge has ~100 more torque and ~30 more HP but they get the same MPG and 0-60 times. It all comes down to how the car feels for the engine, transmission, and body weight. Like a Jetta with the 1.4t produces the same amount of torque as Mazdas 2.5L non-turbo 4cyl and feels faster because of the engineering.
@brianholland774 жыл бұрын
No power isn't everything but when you pay $50,000 most want power or at least an option to have it. Every RLINE should be the power option. I have the Tiguan r-line and it's under powered by at least a 100 horses.

Volkswagen has definitely become the "value for the money" entry in the midsize SUV segment. The Atlas Cross Sport takes impressive technology in the Atlas and rationalizes the overall dimensions to fit the needs of smaller households. Most potential buyers of upscale midsize SUVs would use the extra cargo room more than third-row seating and slimming down the Atlas while sharpening the rear to be more coupe-like was inspired. "Zonks" Ditto on the nonfunctional rear exhaust. I don't understand the reasoning behind taking an important element of the Atlas Cross Sport rear diffuser and making it fake. I also found the front seat armrest to be "munckin" height. I looked at the same vehicle at the Chicago Auto Show and was disappointed to find the lower segments of the rear seat bolsters to be fabric in a full leather trim level vehicle. The preponderance of hard surfaces throughout the cabin was annoying. Please tell Volkswagen purchase decisions on vehicles in most households is joint and some partners put greater weight on touch and feel inside the cabin than almost all other aspects of a vehicle save color and style. The top-line Turbo V-6 horsepower and torque in the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport is inexplicably modest compared to similar engine offerings in other vehicles in the segment; 300+ horsepower and 280+ ft-pounds torque are de rigueur for upscale trim level midsized SUVs in the U.S. market.

"BETTER than the Honda Passport".. If you look at the Atlas forums and other postings, I'd say it's on the wrong side of that question. Though I have a 2019 SEL P, I've not had the issues reported in masses on the forums. Other then the crappy mileage and I say crappy because my 09 Jeep that racks up 10 city, 16 hwy, not far off from what the Atlas really gets. I've gotten upper/mid 20's on the hwy and mid teens city, but now after 9000 miles, it's being what it is, a gas guzzler where I'm seeing 22 hwy, 13 city, and I don't really drive like my hair's on fire. We love the car but I'm more thankful that I'm not having the petty but annoying issues others have reported. What really gets me fired up, off all things, is the fact that 2020's get 4+ years of VWConnect and cool NEEDED updates to the software, 2018's and 19's don't get the upgrade. It might be worth the monthly costs for the remote start but since we dont' get it, I find it VERY VERY insulting that VW would even charge it's 18/19 model year owners that much for what? Something to tell you your windows are down? Not worth it IMO. So, after my above rant, it's a nice ride. Nice car. We use it now ONLY for trips. Last trip was 2800 miles round trip. Other then the fuel mileage, no issues.

Love my Touareg! Not sure about the Atlas Cross Sport yet I'll have to wait and see.

just don t forget that the atlas shares the platform with golfs (nothing wrong with that). but the touareg shares the platform and engines with Audis, Porches, Lamborghinis and Bentleys

@@Cgee3 wouldn't they serve the same customers looking for big 5 seater?
@Cgee34 жыл бұрын
TheMichaelRN I see your point for a customer shopping a loaded Atlas Crosstour vs a Touareg, but even then I would imagine the price difference would be in the neighborhoodof $10k. I believe VW brought the Atlas lineup to the US and not the Touareg because most Americans aren’t will to pay that much for this brand. The history of Touareg sales in the US strongly supports that.
@j_hakann4 жыл бұрын
VW knows not to many people are going to spend $80,000 on a VW. So they’re not even wasting time sending the car to the US.
