Baby Boomers Copium levels are insane. Inherited the richest and most prosperous nation to ever exist, lived during a time when the country was made for them and money fell from the sky. Then they got old and bitter that the fun is over, and handed over their grandkids birthright to "outside interests"

Be glad when the boomers are gone entirely. They are entirely out of touch with anything that has happened in the past 40 years. 1) Proportionate disposable income at an all time low, the lowest in 70 years. 2) A college degree will not get you an entry level position at any company without a direct referral from a relative, period with the exception of I/T which is a career dead end. 3) Bank collateral for loans to fund/expand your own business are 4.5 times higher than 40 years ago. 4) No one retires that has positions that pay a wage comparable to the wages of a middle manager from 40 years ago or above, so forget getting those positions...ever. 5) There is zero company-based employee commitment or redevelopment 6) 99.4% of all manufacturing for goods sold in the United States are now in China, so zero opportunities for employment in the manufacturing sector. 7) All jobs have been dumbed-down to reduce employer wage costs, having at least three low wage redundant people at each position to ensure compliance and the threat of being fired if suggesting a wage increase. 8) Objective unemployment is between 22.4% and 38% for a reason. 9) Individually owned retail stores have not been viable for over 20 years. So no retail ownership and no manufacturing, only service jobs possible, i.e., college is for chumps if you don't have a connection. I could give a couple of dozen more reasons but you are not reading this anyway. Source: Small business developer successfully transferring revenues from corporations to small business owners for the past 28 years. This success allows them to earn just above break comparable to working at McDonald's for the same hourly rate..

@freeze1305
@freeze1305 4 ай бұрын
A reliable industrial grade pressure washer (which is what you need to run a reputable pressure washing business) can easily cost anywhere from $4,000 - $10,000 (Plus you probably need a work truck to haul it). The average person is only capable of reasonably saving between $80 - $120 a week after taxes and non-discretionary spending . So Dave's solution is to save up w-2 wages for between 33 to 125 weeks straight and then go into business for yourself (probably working after your primary job and/or on the weekends). Wow what a great system we've developed here. Why don't these boomers just be honest and say the quiet part out loud. "Work like the slaves that you are, so we can continue to live like lords over an empire we didn't build and won't exist when we're gone."

I agree with most of the comments here saying that Dave Ramsey is out of touch with reality. Personally, I am approaching 30 and my partner is in his mid-30s. Neither one of us has a down and out midset, we are extremely optimistic, and hopeful. Yet the reality is that we have struggled financially for years and it feels like theres only a small sliver of potential to make it out of this situation. We work our asses off, we are intelligent and skilled, but we still have not recovered from financial baggage incurred over the 2020 COVID shutdowns. Our debt piled up and just keeps climbing, despite working full time jobs and side gigs. We can barely make ends meet. We are college educated and we both were unable to work for about a year in the state of CA because our industries were affected. You aren't "taking away someones hopes" by saying that the American Dream is dead, instead you are invalidating their very real experience. The American Dream doesn't make people hopeful and you can't take something away that isn't there. The younger generations can see that very clearly. I know there are other people in far worse situations than me and I find it narrow minded for Dave Ramsey to deny that there are people out there fighting a losing battle.

I would definitely say it’s hard. Yes I did do it but barely got by. If I was in the same shoes in today’s time starting out, I don’t think I would have nearly anything compared to what I have now. When you have a lot of money you tend to not see the real struggles. I’ve listened to him and even bought his books before but a lot of it isn’t reality. I’ve worked my butt off and I’m not sitting on a million. He says do all that with no debt, yeah right. Come to a small town and try that theory. You would have to move off, some folks love family over money and material type things, instead of being content with what you have this guy seeks out to get more and more money. Something wrong here. Everyone likes nice things and most would be content with a home. I know several people that are young, they have zero debt, they are educated, work from sun up to sun down, and are having to live in a camper. It’s not the same brother regardless what you say. Being a lazy slob in a small town gets you more benefits than the working man in today’s time.

Talking to Dave Ramsey, about financial matters is like talking to a self proclaimed car mechanic who doesn’t know the difference between a Car steering wheel and a car tire, but thinks they’re both the same because they are both round. This man talking to Ramsey does not understand, nor does Dave Ramsey, that the reason the American dream is further and further away is because we don’t use money anymore. We now use Fiat currency and have since 1971. The government, Prince and Prince and Prince and the more it prints the less it’s worth so it takes more and more and more of it to buy anything. What we call money today is not money at all, but is debt.

To sit there and down play it like it's just as hard today as any other time is completely ridiculous. When I bought my house in 2011, the median home price was about 3.5 times the median household income. Now the median home price is over 5.5 times the median household income! I'm an engineer and make a pretty good living, but I can't imagine having to buy my same house in today's market.

It’s suppose to be hard folks. If it were easy everyone would do it. The key here is having hope and keeping your eye on the prize. The other issue is the easy credit everyone has access to which is sinking everyone’s future because of the debt they’re accrued. No wonder everyone thinks they can’t get ahead.

Uhhh I’m not a hippie. I’m conservative and Dave is extremely tone deaf here. The housing market has been completely manipulated by people like him and the bailouts the government did along with the money to Ukraine completely caused a massive inflation. His generation mainly caused these issues and continues to hold onto power in all aspects of government because they don’t want to let go of that power. Jill Biden is the best example, she is using her husband while he’s extremely compromised just so she can keep power. I get holding onto hope, but my guy, your generation is killing the hope left and right while saying we aren’t positive enough. The reverse of this is young people cutting social security off, ending Medicare, and telling old people they don’t get to own their houses anymore, they go to the next generation. That’s the setup the past generation made. I honestly wish we never shut down for Covid, the most at risk were his age group and they do not seem to care about us

Dave Ramsey is weird man. If you ever listen to his show, there can be some valuable advice. Understanding how to actually really fucking pinch pennies and work hard and save. But at the same time some of his takes are clearly so so so out of touch. Literally that quintessential boomer take about life. A lot of shit that he ignores. Some insightful stuff. But totally blind to a lot of stuff. Simply put, clearly the rate of inflation of income has not kept up with the rate of inflation of housing and virtually all other expenses really. But most severely college and housing are no longer proportional to income in the same way they were back in this guys time. But at the same time, one has to believe they can do it. Giving up hope does nothing🤷‍♂️

I literally listened to Dave Ramsey and turned it all around on a flight attendant salary. My wife and I are approaching 500k net worth from our 401ks, savings, and what our house is valued at. It's crazy hearing everyone around me tell me it can't be done and then I'm like, bro I did it, and they instantly try to justify how I somehow got it but no one else will. It's all mindset

In the 80's, a home cost roughly 3 times the average annual salary. Today, a home costs 9 times the average salary. Once again Ramsey smugly demonstrates a total lack of awareness. Yes I agree with playing the game to win, but you can't play to win if you won't even look at the cards you've been dealt. The first step is to acknowledge reality.

I bought at $130k with a 2.75% interest rate ($220k total). His advice is ment for the people that want to compete with the joneses and are absolutely wreckless with their money. This guy has no understanding of market fluctuations or inflation. Theo is my boy! Buy a home you can afford if you get fired. If you spend more than 10% of your take home on a car..... you're an idiot. Vehicles lose value.. that's their super power.

America is the land of opportunity. But if you miss it… then your fucked. He’s right and wrong at the same time. You absolute can become a millionaire today when starting from nothing. HOWEVER, the amount of work and sacrifice you have to make to get there today is EXPONENTIALLY higher. You definitely can work two jobs and never eat out and never travel etc. and be pretty well off in ten years. But in today’s world, an emergency like a blown transmission or a surprise surgery can be devastating to someone trying to get ahead. And a lot of getting the emergency fund funded to its max is being lucky that the shit didn’t hit the fan along the way.

Millenials are competing with corporations/ wealthy investors buying up single family homes to rent out, airbnb, or just sit on them vacant or as vacation homes VS a group of first generation home buyers who can't afford to buy houses they actually plan on living in. Boomers are the ticket scalpers of today.... buying up things that future generations need, selling it back to us for more, and then making us feel like we're lazy or entitled for wanting the same opportunities they had

The question shouldn't be how to make money but how to save it.... rather, where to save it because your purchasing power is being eroded away whether you like it or not and it's all up to the Federal Reserve and if they decide to increase or decrease interest rates... both of which cause inflation. It's just a matter of now or later. Imagine living in this clown world where the money's ability to save you're time and energy gets determined by each one of the Federal Open Market Committee's eight meetings throughout the year.
