So basically the Army Painter starter set does what the GW set does not. Gives you everything you need to start. I have never understood why you would have a starter set WITHOUT primer. it is a very basic item for painting.

I don't use a brush-on primer, since I live in a place with a nice amount of fresh air, so I use a spray-primer. But it is nice to see that there's a starter set from Army Painter that is worth getting, since I'm a fan of Army Painter to begin with.

GW really needs to work on that starter brush. Like any random Chinese made taklon brush you can get at your hobby store for a dollar or two is better than it. It's really baffling how bad they made it.

I was lucky when I got my starter set 2 years ago. There was a 'sable' brush (definitely natural hair, but not sure it's Kolinski) in mine. That was the standard I came to expect from G.W. brushes. I was very disappointed when I got my wife to pick me another brush up from the local G.W. shop. I asked for the same brush from the starter set, but it was not the brush I expected 😂

i got an old death guard starter set a few years ago and the brush was SO bad to the point i only use it for picking up paint from the pot to put on my wet palette or just as a wash brush... the brush split so quickly within a few weeks :( even the cheap synthetic brushes do better

Bit late watching this. Was going to make the same comment about R&Co brushes. I picked up a few Kolinski Sable and the difference over synthetics is fantastic. However, their Red Dot synthetics are surprisingly good and make for nice workhorse brushes. Very affordable too.

I recently hit the reset switch on my paint collection. Picked up the Fanatic starter, plus a few basic colors its missing (purple, orange, flesh, bone, and a warm brown) i got the speed paint 2.0 starter set as well wtih corresponding colors. In a way its really liberating having a smaller pallet.

It’s because the brush is synthetic fibres. I don’t know what the actual process is but it doesn’t happen with natural fibres. If you find out let me know!!

I've been using AP Speedpaints only so far in really want to get into regular paints like these. Is there an AP warpaint set that's close to a Tau colour pallet by any chance? These are nice as well but not as useful to me right now.
@alexpaintstinythings2 ай бұрын
Hmm, I don't think so - it depends on your sept of course but you're probably better with some sort of foundation/beginner set for a black, white and primaries - and then picking up a few specific paints for your Sept's colours.
@ralfsstuff2 ай бұрын
@@alexpaintstinythings Guess I'll just get this one then and see what else I'll take after. I want to do the red&white ones from the Box art. Thx for the input.
@alexpaintstinythings2 ай бұрын
@@ralfsstuff So the red, black and white here will help - you'll probably want an off-white to help with shading on the white panels (something like Citadel Apothecary White will be good) and maybe a few greys on the scale, so you can highlight your black parts, and shade your white parts. :)

But the brush-on primer was no different to the base blue paint they make you put on the ultra marines to prime them. I am confused about why would it be any better.
@rasmusolesen53072 ай бұрын
Primer is designed to stick better to plastic than non-primer. So it acts as a bond between the miniature and the other paints. Depending on the miniature it will make your paint easier to work with and less prone to "falling off" after drying.
@ThucNguyen-rc7bj2 ай бұрын
Brush-on primer stick better on the mini than citadel base layer paint.

Nice video, but I think you'd be better off comparing this set to the paints + tools sets that GW sell - this is very similar to the AoS starter paint set, and while that doesn't come with a free mini, if you're new you can get a free one from any (official) warhammer shop so it works out about the same aside from the starter brush lol

The best, cheap brush range ive found so far is the rosemary and co sable blend series 401. I take it as my civic duty to be the person in the comments to answer the question no one else dares: to the best of my broad but shallow 40K knowledge, space marines do not, in fact, get aroused. Except maybe the Emperor's Children, but that's Slaanesh territory and honestly you're a braver man than I if you paint a Slaaneshi's nether regions.
