I just bought this box today… i’m a total noob when it comes to table top games but i want to learn and start painting again. So games and painting…. Bring those two together… best time and i love collecting

Why is it in this hobby that Kolinsky sable is a religion and not a logical thing? Escoda and da Vinci also make imitation sable for example. So stop hating on synthetic brushes - the problem is simply that it's a crappy brush, period.

I have a question before I start painting. I have a mini figure whose colors I didn’t care for and would love to change. Do you know if acrylic will change the feel to the touch?

Finally, and ironically, I think the big problem for Steamforged Games is the pricing model. Ten models in a box with no assembly instructions, or other accessories or even a how to play for $200 Australian immediately shut down my interest in the game. Your average starter sets for other systems contain much more in figures and support materials, think Bolt Action, Flames of War and even GW for just a few examples. Also, looking at the price list for supporting kits to expand your army, bearing in mind this is a skirmish game, and the pricing if anything is higher for what is supplied. I think they need to review that one.

Second observation. I agree with you entirely. What colour you choose for your mini's is your prerogative. What would be funny is you put that colour scheme on the table, call it Khador still and watch it mess with the head of your opponent. 😅 The one observation I would make, above statement kept well in mind, is that you have, as many do, painted the armour panels the same colour as the clothe on the model. The wear and tear on armour would effect a variation in shade compared to material and this would make a nice contrast of its own I think.

I hate people who compare other systems with WarHammer. The point is, is Warmachine a good gaming system that stands on its own? The answer is yes, that is all you need to know.

As someone who considered getting this set, I'm so glad I didn't. Instead I found a small model kit that I liked the look of (Ork Stormboyz) and asked the guy behind the counter at my LGS for advice. I've been slowly investing more and more. This hobby is so cool, but I couldn't imagine starting with this set. Not a huge fan of the whole in this set it snaps together instead of gluing. feeling like....lying about the hobby for newcomers? I feel like they'll then think all of the minis are snap together. Maybe I'm wrong.

Can you link the tools you use, like the mini drill and awl?

My way of doing it is just wraithbone spray, imperial fist contrast all over and some Iyanden yellow in the recesses. Really basic, dont give the best result, but its easy for me who is not a good painter.

Picked one up cause I wanted to give it a try. Enjoyed the kit, but the only thing I disliked was the inclusion of Balthasar Gold, it looks weird against the pure Gold on the rest of my space marines.

Just got this set I’ve been a big fan of 40K for years because of the various video games and books so this will be my first set to paint the caveat is I’m not painting smurfs for my first army I’m painting dark angels.

It took me far longer than I'd care to admit to realise that's a wet pallet camera inserted and not just paper on your mat.

Use matt medium for sticking in the "glass" it wont frost the plastic. It's also a great adhesive if you want to put together pre-painted parts, as it wont harm the paint work. Also good for adhering flock and grass as it remains flexible and doesn't dry brittle like PVA, dilute as you would for PVA

These came out pretty nice, its a good way of working with those paints. I think you might want to try a higher opacity yellow like cadmium. Most of the more common arylide paints tend to be pretty transparent and will be showing through the base colors. You don't want to airbrush cadmium though. benzimidazolones are fine for airbrushing but are often semi transparent so you would have to mix with white if you want opacity. Luckily they tend to be pretty saturated and high strength for yellows so don't desaturate much when mixed with white.

I love how you look at the armour when it's done and you go 'Thaaaaaaat doesn't really look white at all.' and then the rest of the colours get added and you realise that it really does when you have those other colours to bounce off. Nice job mate :)

No, blue is not black and that is not it. Look at a video by Duncan Rhodes who demonstrates that black does not have to be any other colour. If you want to get an idea for other colours to add contrast to a model see if you can find a video where one of the Spanish lads does a Sisters of Battle. It was done shortly after the Sisters box was released and it took a few hours to get the job done without it looking like you had painted black armour blue. You are not the only one by the way, I have seen a few recent videos of people thinking black aint black. Well it is and the challenge is to keep it that way but get definition.

LIght pink undercoat for yellow... yup, that works well.

Nice Job overall. To my taste I would have gone a bit darker on the highlight to avoid the 'tron' look. Wth that said, I dont paint up black space marines either so no great experience talking, just personal taste. Love this channel Alex. Keep it up!
