Is The BMW G80 M3 Is More Reliable Than The Alfa Romeo QV | 7 Month Update. I now have the dreaded CHECK ENGINE on for over 3 weeks in the 2023 BMW G80 M3 and it has caused zero effect on driving the car and enjoying it. My car has over 12 hard codes. I will update everyone on the remedy once I get the car back from BMW Service later this week. The fact that the car has so many Permanent Codes stored and the car still functions as designed means the BMW G80 M3 electrical system is far more reliable and forgiving than the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV architecture. Stay tuned for more content.

My 18 QV threw its 1st CEL after fpur years of ownership. Cleared the codes and no issues since. Cant complain about the reliabikity as ive had it for 5 years and 31k miles, its only been in the shop for scheduled.maintenance.

If only the Italians figured out a way to keep the car driving normally with a CEL on that would be a game changer. I’m still impressed by my QV’s reliability, even with low kms, I drive it hard like it’s meant to be driven and I can tell it likes it as well. You should reconsider getting back into a QV, perfect size, chassis, balance, power and looks!!

if I could buy an older QV new in the wrapper I think I would but the newer refined ones I already had a 2021 QV and sold it after a few months. The other issue is more dealers for Alfa are vanishing all over my area recently due to customer complaints dealers are loosing their Maserati Alfa franchises so service will be another nightmare which I did not want to dive back into now since the last 7 months has been pretty stress free with the BMW

The title on this should be "Is MY BMW G80 M3 More Reliable Than My Old Alfa Romeo QV". Because there are a lot of us who have had little to no problems with our QV's. I've had mine for 2.5 years and only problem I've had is the connector to the diverter valve which has been fixed. It would throw a code and lock me in N mode, but it was still very drivable. So sounds like you got a bad one. Granted, the M3 overall might be more reliable across all owner experiences. But the QV for most is no where near what you experienced based on my time in the forums where I visit almost daily. That GTr rocks! Keep it.

Only a handful of you QV owners will report no issues but thousands of us had catastrophic issues and horrible dealer support all over the world. You guys are the minority when you see stats and i have directly communicated with thousands of Alfa owners in last 5 years than most owners can come in contact with. Forums are less than 1% of actual owners so not a great baseline Awesome cars and nobody cheer lead the brand more than me on social media . When there running right but when they screw up you simply can not drive it normally like i have with the M3 loaded with ecu faults thats intent of this video to highlight how different these two brands electrical systems are.

Usually the ones that are the loudest are ones that have problems. I find it very unlikely that we wouldn't be hearing more complaints than we do if what you say is indeed true especially since there is one main Giulia forum. But I guess it is possible. I've hung out on Porsche and BMW forums as well and so have somewhat of a feel for what it is like. And I do realize that AR owners are a much smaller crowd. No science to any of this though.

This comment doesn’t have anything to do with this videos point at hand, but I have to say it: The BMW 1-Series M has been the most valued production //M car ever made. It has never gone below its MSRP price, and it became an instant collectible. There are many reasons why it has done this, but a big reason is it’s size-to-power ratio. BMW //M cars have got so big and heavy now, that they just aren’t as attractive anymore. I think it’s safe to say that BMW needs to really rethink they’re strategy here, and start bringing back smaller, lighter cars, since the 2-series is no longer small nor light…

I went the same route. Had a faultless QV for a little less than 3 years, traded for a new G80 M3 Comp xdrive. G80 is a better car in every sense for its intended purpose, with far better build quality and materials. QV is a great car with top notch driving dynamics with more of a raw feel. At the end of the day, these are still practical 4 door sedans, if all that mattered was driving dynamics and raw visceral fee, id be driving an actual sports car (P car), not a sedan. Most of the owners would say "the car is bulletproof" and then say that they visited the repair shop 3-5 times in the first 2 years and with less than 50k miles on the car. You cant call a car reliable while having issues when the car is basically brand new. That was a big turn off so I decided not to look for alfa qvs anymore

people think forums are the end all be all of car ownership feedback but forums are just a small bunch of complainers who have no real knowledge of cars in many instances. Almost like going to a doctor too many times yet your ailment is not cured but you then praise how great the doctor is. in our culture today people just never want to hear the honest truth and will make every excuse in the world to gaslight others to not accept facts and truth and this is with everything today. all cars have problems that is a hard fact but not all brands treat customers the same and not all problems cars have are different. the purpose of this video was the prove how different the BMW G8X platform is with all these hard faults versus the Alfa which would not allow you to drive seamlessly for weeks on end with a check engine light and hard faults stored on the electrical system.

i dont think its entirely fair to generalize your experience with your Alfa as universal...you can report your experience and any other anecdotal experience related by the service center or what issues commonly crop up in the forums, but you cant fairly say they ALL have a problem you had. for example its fair to say that if there is an issue the car goes into an inconvenient limp mode etc (vs. the BMW), but thats about all thats fair to assert simply because you dont have access to enough data to know what issues are common and what just happened to you. only Alfa truly knows the reality of the common flaws and how widespread they are or arent...and only to the extent they can get the reports from the owners. as long as you speak truth i have no issue with you talking about flaws you experienced, however make it clear what's your experience and what's your opinion, if you want to be as fair and accurate as possible. the brand deserves to exist and continue to make improvements and being unfair to boost your channel will not help them achieve their potential as a genuinely solid alternative in every single respect. Even during their most recent revival they were still operating on a tight budget and time crunched development schedule vs the more established german brands and that needs to. be acknowledged...Only now under Stellantis do they FINALLY have the funds to compete on an even playing field, and its something that should be talked about more when criticizing the Giulia and its unfair to the brand to leave that fact out of any comparisons
@autofanaticcars

Did you not listen to full video? Fact is you can still drive a BmW with multiple hard codes in the ECU and BCM you can’t do that on any generation Alfa QV! Please realize when anyone references forums you do know 99% of owners of any brand car do not participate in forum’s so its too small a focus group to even grasp the brand on a larger scale. If you knew reality of how Stellantis is destroying the brand you would have a completely different outlook because Alfa dealers all over USA are going out of business and loosing their franchises because of lack of support from FCA Stellantis there support is non existent if you knew how they treat customers

@@autofanaticcars I look at the industry on a macro level. The merger that became stellantis while it produces a lot of economies of scale and will bring long term benefits to the brand it still takes time to implement because they have to invest in lots of brands and relaunch lots of brands in order to maximize what they have in their portfolio and it’s simply not Alfas turn again yet. Unfortunately it won’t be their turn until the switch to electric (which unfortunately is coming way too fast in my opinion for this particular brand which is known for its motors). The temporary loss of franchises is not going to be permanent because they are going to restructure and probably bring back Peugeot as well and when they bring back Peugeot they will have to invest In better dealers (who will likely specialize in the European side of their portfolio) so perhaps some of the dealers that we are losing are good ones and perhaps not, but either way they aren’t abandoning the market, they are just putting their money into other brands at the moment. People get mad at the brands for dealing with the financial realities of the automotive industry instead of looking at the macro they look at just where the rubber meets the road and unfairly write a brand off, Ironically just as they’re getting good.

Look at what’s happening with Maserati, the Mc20 has been a total flop jn sales and social media buzz nobody’s buying them because of price points on more esteemed brands in super car segments. They launched new Grecale and sales still stagnant . The new Granturismo is amazing but will also struggle to sell because the prices are too high. I just feel the people running Alfa and Maserati are lost and aren’t seeing the market as a whole in America. Sharing good platforms will make both brands better all around but price points and dealers support is missing badly and there going to struggle to get sales volumes unless drastic changes are made within. We will see what happens but the next 3-5 years are critical lets hope history doesn’t repeat itself
