He was being cynically smart. Not to mention he says if he used his strength to control the plane on the outside, he'd ripped straight through the hull and fuck them over either way. It was in the comics to prove that point (which it did and was gruesome).

Something I find quite funny about the show is the fact superheroes play their own character in movies (play horribly btw), so essentially they can make the movies without CGI, while superheroes movies are CGI heavy and that make them ugly. It's even more absurd as Mesmer has his own show where he reads people's mind, but you obviously don't need a person with that ability to play a person with that ability. You don't even need CGI for that. The whole thing is so parodic and comical.

Words mean whatever people use them for. Technically all modern languages are just bastardizations of older languages.

Frenchie is one of my favorite characters on the show because, in a weird way, he's the most tragic. Billy is fucking crazy, MM and Hughie are relatable and Kimiko is tragic and easy to sympathize. Frenchie feels like a person who is geniunely struggling with himself. Even before lamplighter killed Mallory's grandchildren, his speech about his assassination in the elevator was under spoken to me because it shows how much he regrets AND struggles so hard to cope with it. Not to mention his use of drugs and ties to get weapons and such treats him as the most criminal in season 1. In season 2, it's like he learns to use that though to be a good thing for the crew. There's people who he talks to that help them out, he gets weapons easy, his relationship with Kimiko grows like it's one where he feels like it's his chance to improve as a person. The lamplighter scenes with him really enhance his character because he essentially is a guy who honestly WANTS a normal life. I don't want to sound stupid for saying it, but it's like Kimiko is an animal that he sees a part of himself in. He sees that killing machine and yet tragic past and he wants to geniunely help her because she's alot like him. Maybe I'm reading too much into it

I've got to say that I was a bit "ugh a Nazi again" with the Stormfront reveal. Nazi's are so often used as a goofy throwaway villan that in my opinion they've lost a lot of their scary factor. They're almost glorified with thier terrible racial motives replaced with imagery of honour and sacrifice. However the fact that she was so unabashedly a terrible person and a "real" Nazi made her character have weight as an evil villan. Also Homelander is almost the Indominus Rex from Jurassic World lol.

as someone who read the comic; dont bother it only gets worse. It does nothing intresting with any of its characters and every chapter is just the boys beating up this weeks superhero parody of the week. But its sooo cool and edgy because superpowered ppl beat up superheroes with crowbars. For 50 issues. There are some neat ideas but nothing is done with them. The author of the boys has a strong dislike for superheroes and big cooperations and very bluntly inserts that into his work. I really cant recommend it except you like excessive and graphic shit and piss jokes. The best thing about the comics is that they gave us the show, which i really enjoy.

The first 3 episodes of Season 3 have been so good. If it keeps it up it could be the best by far. If it keeps doing the best of both the previous seasons; what the first season did with parody and season 2 with building on characters.

A lot of what you said I pretty much agree with, too. I think it's funny how a show so critical of large companies/capitalism is owned by Amazon Studios. It adds another ironic touch that makes the show even more bleakly hilarious. With the Fresca thing, I have a couple theories. One being that the church is putting something in the Fresca to maybe make their members more agreeable to their batshit religion? Kinda like the mushrooms the Hawkeye ripoff dude gave to The Deep to try and get him to accept his gills but much, much more watered down and distilled. That scene where the church leader offers Stan Edgar some Fresca, and he makes some offhand comment about its flavor (can't remember what he said exactly, but it kinda implied he was aware of what might be in it) sticks out to me. Or it may be an overt comment on product placement in shows with an out-of-place sponsorship being really shoved in your face. IDK I'm two months late to the hype, but I just got into this show now, so...

I don’t think season two was as good as one, but it was still fucking great. The plot had a few minor holes here and there, and the pacing was much slower, but the character writing was a major step up (especially Homelander’s), and that finale was leagues beyond season one’s. I don’t think the staggered release schedule helped the slow pacing. I plan on rewatching season two again in one go, and I honestly think I’ll like it better the second time.

As much as I love the show, am I the only one that's bothered by the dialogue at points? I feel like the characters talk about their past so much it gets grating. They almost talk in flashbacks. A couple examples: - Huey and his love for Billy Joel "When I was a kid, my mom used to play Billy Joel before she left" - Annie when she confronts Maive "When I was a kid, I looked up to you. I watched your movies and I wanted to be you. Now I'm starting to think that was just marketing" (Marketing line was also an epic roast that wasn't grating at all) - Annie telling Mother's Milk why she moaned while eating a donut "My mom never let me have this stuff as a kid, but my dad would go to Dunkin with me sometimes an get me a chocolate Donut and he'd ask me to tell him about my day" - Annie at the Christian Festival thing "As a kid I used to love Christianity and I looked up to a lot of these people, but now I just don't see it the same way" These are just a few examples though and there are a lot more. Even though I still really like the show I just found it grating especially since no one talks like that and overall its just really lazy writing. I found this specifically annoying with Annie, who I think is a fine character but still has WAY too many of these flashback monologue moments. Like really, no one talks like this, especially the one liner she used on Maive. Idk if I'm the only one but that's honestly what bothered me most about the show, despite how good it is.

I like that though about the dialogue: it's this weird comic book blended with reality that fits the satire mould. It's not meant to be something that's supposed to be considered 100% realistic (the premise itself is ludicrous and meant to be satirical the whole way through). The dialogue feels "lazy" because it's styled in a comic book feel. The genius to me is there is still plenty of moments that don't rely on it to make the characters strong. If anything the backstory is icing on the cake.

I wasn't a huge fan of season 2. Even back in season 1, it felt like the show was struggling to not blow its load waaayyy too early. The parallel between Homelander and Billy Butcher is great and the character relationships are fleshed out a decent amount but it feels like the first half of this season, the human characters were pretty sidelined for Billy Butcher and same goes for the corporate characters sidelined for Homelander. Part of what made the first season so interesting was the angle of Homelander dealing with Stillwell and grappling with the corporate side. For the most part that was completely thrown out the window since Homelander can just do what he want now. It felt like it was building to something a lot more seeing as how Homelander could easily get away with anything so it felt like a cheap ending for him to be cucked at the end by thinking that Queen Maeve will be able to immediately upload that video of the plane. The stakes feel nonexistent now because Homelander can be so easily brushed away and they've established that he will do anything to make sure he is still liked (even if it doesn't make that much logical sense). Another thing that annoyed me is how the whole first season feels less important since the compound V plot was so important then but then is immediately brushed off this season. It feels like really lazy that they couldn't figure out a way to flesh out the damage that the compound V news leak would have so they just... didn't do it. The twist with the senator at the end is a little ridiculous, since up until that point for the entire show she has never showed any hints that she would secretly be in support of superheroes when she actively protests them. Just felt like a lot of loose strands were forgotten about because they couldn't be bothered to think about the story logic and the stakes they spent the entire first season establishing.

Really irrelevant bit of pedantry about Tek Knight in the comics, but the bit about him fucking the meteor to destroy it and save the world was actually just happening in his head as he was dying from a brain tumour. The tumour was also what caused him to chronically fuck things. I just want to be clear that I agree the comics get way too fucking bonkers, and the show handles the absurdity better and I think the whole Tek Knight stuff in the comics was kinda oof, but yeah, just wanted to correct that bit.
