Another consideration is how much old EF glass you own and want to use with your new RF camera. If you have a lot of lenses that you like then the $100 upcharge is spread across several lenses that you now get a bonus control upgrade on without buying the similar RF lens.

Yes, and I’d add to that: EF glass is now dirt cheap. Well that’s an exaggeration of course but many people are selling it in favor of RF glass. For someone getting into serious photography there’s amazing deals. Like a second hand EF 85mm 1.2 L II that doesn’t cost much more than a new RF 85mm 2.0. Or saving a thousand bucks on a 24-70 2.8 or something. I’d say this is actually a great time to be getting INTO ef glass 😅

Adapter without the control ring. On the EOS R6 there are three dials. I use auto ISO. Shutter dial - Shutter Speed Back dial - Aperture Top dial - Exposure Compensation ISO is easily adjusted through the touch screen or M-Fn button and changed with the shutter dial.

Thanks so much for doing this video & explaining so clearly & concisely. I’m desperately contemplating getting the R7. I’m a newbie and have been shooting with the T6 & couldn’t figure out if I should get the control ring adapter or not. Thx for your guidance because I’d absolutely regret not getting the control ring. As you explained it would make the camera function similar to the old school non-digital camera which I originally learned on, and is exactly the functionality I’ve been missing on my T6.

I'm getting the R8 upgrading from a 5d mkiii, after watching your vid I think I'll be getting that. I'm pretty sure there are less dials on the R8 compared to it's single bodied siblings.

Appreciate the video and I must say, paying the extra hundred for the control ring was worth it. Especially for the Tokina 11-16mm ATX lens EF mount, it was one of my favourite ultrawide lenses and you couldn't find a lens like this in the RF mount version.

I like the one that takes filters so that even lenses that don’t fit a filter can take them. I bought the off-brand Meike and it works great. Rather have two filters for every lens then a control ring

Thanks for your time , it works for smaller lenses , but I tried it on a 70-200 2.8 and found it too far back and out of balance , but this is only my view .

Hello, I bought a Camera R100 and a Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. But the R100 does not have the ring configuration. 😢😢😢

Since I only have EF glass which I intend to keep, it was a no brainer for me to get the control ring adapter and use it with every single one of them. That’s not even the case for the cheaper RF lenses which don’t have it. I’m using it to switch between the AF zones, because that’s a setting I’m changing a lot, and it makes it very convenient. It’s also giving me that tactile feeling the old camerass used to have, but that’s just a personal preference.

I shoot manual on the R7. Control ring sits on the lens..in theory ideal for changing aperture. Then iso can go on one of the other dials. However, I often shoot long lenses where that ring is out of reach for my hand supporting the lens. I dont know. Ill stick to the normal adapter.Btw, how awesome is it to use a speedbooster adapter on the R7 or other CF body? It makes my 500 F4 be either a 800 F4 or a 550 F2.8!

If shooting portraits or other still objects it may not be needed, but if you are doing sports or are in varying light conditions, being able to quickly make a change could mean getting the shot or not.

Just bought the one with control ring. I'm going to use it on a EOS R8. There's not dedicated iso button on EOS R8 compared to my 77d. I can use it to adjust ISO or any function. Also it's 149usd right now.

Hi Yolanda, I'm not sure what you're asking me. The focus ring does not control manual or auto-focus, but it does keep the communication between the camera and lens for focusing.
