Is the CANON SL2 (200D) Worth Buying in 2019?

This is my first DSLR and I love it! You get a lot of value out of it at a reasonable price. The quality is really good for both videos and photos and it's easy to learn how to use. In addition to the kit lens I recommend getting a 50mm and for vlogging a 10-18mm. Nice review. Go Buckeyes.

FREE FROM COPYRIGHT it's not bad. You can get some noise in there at higher ISO'S. If you are lighting your subject, there's no issues.

Gary, Thanks very nice review! This newer Canon SL2 is a very good bang for the buck for someone wanting a DSLR. The dual autofocus by Canon is outstanding, just no other words for it, I've got the D80 and it stays in-focus every time. For someone that is just starting a KZbin or just wants a starter DSLR, I think it's the way to go. Again, great review and will look forward to further reviews on this camera. Oh, remember, it does have an audio input and the built-in screen, something the Sony's don't, and a lot cheaper, LOL! Thanks and Take Care!

Snarfunderfoodle I have a Nikon d500 and it has a articulating screen (not fully articulating) so I just goes up and down. And I love it, but hardly ever use it. I dislike the fully articulating because you have to make the screen flip out before you can tilt the screen. I guess it’s just the difference between consumer vs. professional.

Another pro of rotating screens is you can face the screen inside the camera when not in use to prevent scratches, or in the event of a fall its not exposed to the ground

All my cameras are made by CANON, except for all my action-cams of course. In my experience, I've never had a problem with a Canon camera, the quality is great and they always work when you need them to work. Over the years, I've got quite a few compliments on both my videos and photos. When you hear that from people, it makes you happy you bought a Canon camera. On a side note, I currently have a Canon printer, and it is the best printer I've ever owned.

The small size was a big selling point for me. You'll actually take it with you and use it. I use it for talking head segments and for my travel videos on my personal channel. This thing + the creator kit from Canon is a decent combo for creating quality, usable video on par with the 80d but way smaller, lighter and cheaper.

The Canon SL2 is what I use for my videos. It's a great camera for any vlogger / KZbinr. Hands down...no regrets about buying this camera. No need for me to do 4K video uploads to KZbin. I wish it had 120 fps for those buttery smooth 'Slow Motion' (BRoll) shots but other than that it's great at what it does. Nice review.....

I've never been into photography or owned any camera outside of the basic point and shoot digi ones. Astrophotography has seemed like something I'd like to try out and this was one of the cameras I was looking at along with the Rebel T7i.

Couldn't agree more. I recently got the SL2 and I'm impressed with all I can do with just the kit lens. Sure the preamp isn't the best, but if you lower it a notch or two and increase the gain in your mic, if it allows it, you'll get excellent audio. I will be investing in lenses now and upgrade the body until I manage to outgrow it, or until the SL3 is released. I can't wait to buy the Sigma 18-35 F/1.8!

You know I love my SL2. I'll admit, I was concerned that it would not hold up to your standards for a camera and that I. . .blah blah blah. However, I was pleasantly surprised and commend you. The features and price, not to mention the dual pixel auto focus, blows Nikon out of the water at this price point. Great job! I think I need some new glass now. You could review some great budget friendly Canon glass.

Using a camera for video and not photography makes it seem that the mirror less is the way to go. It offers better video, is lighter, and like you said has EIS which is a major requirement.

Great review! OK, now how about an "either/or" shoot out comparison between the M50 and SL2 from your POV as a video content creator? If you could only choose ONE...which one? I bought the SL2 back in November when Canon told me they had no mirrorless 4K coming to market before mid 2019 -- which technically, they still kinda don't -- but while I love the SL2 for stills and video, I still yearn for a true 4K mirrorless that's not fiddly. And yes, the lack of knobs-- simple, common sense, intuitive analog controls on the SL2--is driving me crazy. Semi-full disclosure: I'm a retired pro-photographer that just wants a tiny, flexible camera for travel videos. Having some control is a huge feature for me. To that end I picked up a Canon PowerShot G5x for my travel camera. Tiny, fast and... several programmable knobs and controls! Worth a look for anybody looking for a true pocket camera with pro features!

I love the new one the sl3 it’s great! There’s 4K 24p and 1080 60. It has the famous dual pixel auto focus, compatible with Ef, and efs lens’ it’s just AWESOME 🤩

I bought the SL2 recently. Why the SL2? Lense choice. The EF-S lenses are optimized for the crop sensor, but I can run any Canon standard lens mount. Have you tried the 10-18mm yet? It's awesome for vlogging. The M Series lenses are limited, and adapters just compound the cropping. As a travel vlogger, I store and edit on a laptop, so for the foreseeable future, I wont be filming anything in 4k. For me, the compactness, weight, versatility, and adaptability of the SL2 can't be matched in any other camera currently available. Oh, and it a great value too.

I got it 3 Weeks ago and i can say, it's awesome! The Overall buildquality is plasticy, but it doesnt feel cheap and has a Kind of ruff Surface. Is has a very nice grip for my "kinda" small Hands. The Menusystem (it's my first Canon DSLR) is very good layd out. I shot very nice Lightning and landscape footage with it and it is very compact and the Overall Picturequality is very good, with the 18-55mm IS STM and my 55-250mm IS STM also in lowlight. I fly in autmn to the Indian Himalayas and i am very hyped how it will do during travel. I siriously love it and i dont mind having no 4K onboard. As a Photobeginner, this Camera was my best choice, for only 477,00 Euros. Nice Review About the SL2/200D, you also get a like! ;)

I've had my sl2 for about 2 months have yet to make a video with it. Not the camera's fault. Its just that it's hard to not use my phone. My videos don't require much editing. Plus I'm spoiled by the huge screen on my phone. But that dual pixel autofocus is ridiculously good. I will start using this camera in my new shop.

750D has a better Autofocus through the viewfinder. The 800D is the 200D with an even better AF than the 750D

I'd have to have an articulating screen. So that's a plus! I think its a GREAT camera to upgrade to. If an when i decide to get a new camera, this might be the one for me. My wife can keep her Canon PowerShot SX510. Its really not a bad camera. But I need one for myself. The Rebel SL2's price is just right for its features. You sold me on it. (my wife just spent $400 on legos. Maybe this is my chance) LOL
