Ok here's a lil update on the performance and thermals: The 1.4ghz base clock is very interesting, because as soon as the CPU goes under load (in this case Cinebench) it turbos all the way up to 2.9ghz. Thats a 1.5ghz all core boost, very impressive. The temps (as with any Apple device smh) get up into the 90C range pretty quick and then the fan kicks in. By running the fan at full speed manually we can keep it in the 80s most of the time and run a 2.9/3.0 turbo speed. Scores improve about 2.5%. By the way the fan is 7200RPM, which is nuts, if only the iMac had hard drives that spun that fast 😉

Ironically I feel nostalgic because I still remember when the pro label meant that it was designed for on-sight pro workloads as the first priority. It seems like they are listening to the criticism and making thermal throttling less of an issue for those who need to push their system for performance. I remember Jonny Ive? Some apple executive saying that they heard the criticism of the thunderbolt 3 MacBook pros loud and clear. This refresh has me finally making the leap for sure.

@rhythm16955 жыл бұрын
Dennis Updike Unless you’re doing particularly demanding work, the upgrade is not worth the $200.00, 8GB of Ram is already more than an enough for the majority of peoples’ workloads. Lower tier computers like certain Chromebooks only come with 4GB of Ram and that in itself is decent but 8GB is like the perfect middleground. Unless you are a Graphic Design Major and doing some 3D modeling or you typically keep a thousand or more tabs open on Safari, You will be absolutely fine with 8GB of Ram. I have this base model 2019 MacBook Pro and the 8GB of RAM has had no problem at all keeping up with my day to day usage. I am a college student btw. Hope this helps!

@@rhythm1695 Thank You. What I am trying to do is to eliminate that occasional spinning beachball thing that you get at times, and I was thinking that additional RAM might accomplish that. If you have 30 chrome tabs open like I do and also try to run other applications at the same time then I think it is worth it. I just purchased the base model with 16gb ram and 512gb SSD upgrades. I currently have an early 2015 macbook pro with a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 8gb of ram and 128gb SSD. The fan is practically running permanently and I have to quit chrome entirely at least once a day. If i open a blog post that has ads then it just about burns through my desk from getting so hot and freezes up. The mac also yells at me once a week for having no storage space left. had it for about a year and have a ton of python and node libraries installed but other than that, I don't really have a ton of downloads. What I'd be curious about is how it compares to the mid-2015 MacBook Pro. You claim that most people pick up the base model MBP but that seems unlikely to me. At least for software developers, a really big part of the MBP market, a base model just wouldn't cut it. They need more RAM, more storage, and benefit greatly from increased CPU speed. Many developers have stuck with their mid-2015 MBP due to the changes made since then which were just moves backward, and I'm curious if the new revision will do anything to woo them.

Epiphany Ayers Actally your wrong. I have had the MacBook for about 4 months and I do video editing and I have never had any issues with fan. With heavy use.

The fact that we're almost 3 years out since the introduction of the touchbar and NO ONE has shown a good reason for why it even exists just further reassures my discontent with it. Hopefully it's gone in the next redesign and we actually get a touch display and real function buttons again. Nice review Luke.

I was thinking of getting a Quad-Core MBP 13 inch but it was never enough power for the price...

There’s really no point in buying any of the more expensive processors except for gaming and burst performance. As soon as they thermal throttle on a long video render every cpu is about the same performance. That’s been the case for every MacBook for a long while.

@@markm0000 , except the 2019 i9 doesn't throttle beneath base clock on video renders.

Uyasey Well I genuinely hope you enjoy Windows 10. Also, any future service that Razr laptop may require. It’s a great option for mobile gaming.

7:52 - The one that is $500 more expensive has double the SSD. If you double the SSD on the entry level, what will the entry level cost?
@NormanF623 жыл бұрын
I’m betting its around $3500 for a maxxed out machine. Oh wait - my late 2013 a1398 high end MBP cost that much back when it was brand new!
