I'm looking for that video or an article, I was about to buy this 1700$ (with 16gb ram) but now I'm actually wondering if the base model with 256gb and 16gb ram would also be a good option. It would save me a few hundred bucks!

They should stop offering that 128gb model now in 2019. I mean phones these days are offering that as their base
@TheshBuilds
@TheshBuilds 5 жыл бұрын
It’s very possible to survive with 128GB only, especially if you’re streaming your music and store most of your photos and videos on google photos or iCloud. Additionally, there's a thunderbolt 3 port for any external storage requirements.
@evancrazyerror

Most other laptops come with 128GB standard so I don’t see it as much of a deal. I’d be happy if the base was 256 but I have a Microsoft surface and I’m surviving on 128 GB

Rim. I think the touch bar base model of 2018 has a better value if you have a good offer, its almost the same processor 8 generation intel four cores, but you have 4 thunderbolt 3 ports and the hey siri function. If you look the Geekbench its almost the same, but only if you can get the same price at this model.

Wow this is crazy! This 13" MacBook Pro has 17,115 score in Multi-Core, means that It has outperformed not only former 13" models but also Mid 2017 15" Pros (about 15,000+), Mid 2017 i5 iMacs 27" and 21.5" (about 14,000-15,000+). It has slightly the same score as 2012 Xeon Mac Pro, and only 1,000 points below the 2013 Mac Pro. This 2019 portable(U) i5 processor is very crazy, beats 2012 PC Xeon. I feel like I'm so jealous right now having a $2,799 15" Pro that has lower score processor to this $1,299 baseline users.

Starting off with Geekbench, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro scores a single thread result of 4993 and a multi-core score of 18283. The 2018 13-inch entry-level model has a single thread score of 4520 and a multi-core result of 16629. so there's a substantial gain at the same price-point. Comparing that to our 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro with a six-core i7 Processor which got a single core score of 5081 and a multi-core score of 22143, the refreshed base model 13-inch MacBook Pro is no slouch.

The single core score beating last gen isn't surprising - it would be running in single core boost clocks the whole time. The base clock applies to a full load on all cores, in which case the higher aggregate performance of all four cores would still beat the previous gen.

Wow- impressive! This video is exactly what I was hoping to see; the ONLY thing I do on my Mac is video editing in FCPX, so I’m having a hard time justifying $4,000 for a top-end 15”. Of course, there’s a huge performance delta between those two machines, but I can now still get an e-gpu and really rock this thing on the road. Thanks for the review!

Kobel I’m a pretty heavy cutter, but middle of the road effects user. I don’t do much with motion, so I think for most of what I do on the road, I’ll be good. I can do the heavy stuff at home with the addition of an e-gpu. Thanks.

SSD upgrade prices have also come down yesterday, and that was what inflated the 15 inches prices the most. However it is true, unless you have a very demanding workflow like Editing RAW footage or over 4k, or perhaps doing some extra 3d animation, i think these new 13 inch with some added storage, RAM are the Sweetspot now. Add a good monitor and an eGPU and you have a versatile mobile/desk setup
@UnusualAttitudes
@UnusualAttitudes 5 жыл бұрын
Juan Manuel Martinez I agree whole heartedly. I don’t do anything over 4K, & even that is usually GoPro footage at only 60Mbps. I noticed the cost of SSD came down on the 15” bringing my ‘attainable dream machine’ to ~$3400, but it’s still more machine than I need right now. I think the 13” with 16GB RAM is workable. I’d get 32 if it were available on the 13”, but it’s not.

Hi Jon, I don't understand why you, together with all other KZbinrs, have been hyping about "the cheapest macbook pro" being good. Your video compares the newest 2019 MBP i5 with 2017 MBP i5. How is this a valid comparison when the 2017 MBP i5 is running on dual-core while the 2019 is already on quad-core? If anything, this should be compared to the 2018 MBP i5, when i5 was quad-core. The bench and performance of the 2019 MBP isn't surprising news, the only surprising news is that you weren't aware that 2018 MBP i5 was already on quad-core, and already amazingly fast as compared to 2017 MBP. This makes me wonder, are you, along with other KZbinrs, sponsored by Apple to make this video? Cheers.

T2 sounds great but a lot of people are having T2 issues and crashes (there’s a 1000 page forum on macrumours on it and a popular KZbin zoneoftech has T2 crashes daily). I don’t Apple Pay or edit video, so I’d rather have no T2 than one, but I can see how a coprocessor like T2 can bring the benefits of arm and apples chip division and the benefits x86 and using legacy apps.

samuel murillo but the thing is macrumours is a site for Apple fanboys. If they say Apple does something wrong you know it’s serious. And T2 crashes only really happen if you use thunderbolt accessories. If you don’t use an eGPU or a thunderbolt ssd or something of the sorts the chances of a crash is very low. Also a lot of people get T2 crashes without even knowing. Symptoms of one would be your system locking up and your fans spinning up to 100%. Then a reboot with a log that says “Bridge OS” (what links the intel CPU and the arm cpu together) caused the panic.
