For the Ram owners out there. In 4WD Hi you can turn off stability control (ESC) by holding the traction control button down. This may be helpful when asking the most of the 4WD system. Does not turn off in 2WD.

I drove a dodge ram through a blizzard in Amherst NY, drove it onto a job site up a mountain in a snowy, muddy, Icy, off-road path without the slightest slip. I bought one and continue to drive in all weather and conditions without any issues.

I have a 2021 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock and have absolutely loved it. I would recommend to anyone looking at a new truck to at least take a look at the classic series. May not have all the bells and whistles, but it gets the job done. I’ve put almost 40,000 miles on it and have had no issues. I did put a set of Michelin Cross Climate Agilis tires on it this year and they have been great in the snow so far.

Tow hooks are easy to add to this generation of RAM, but you can also add a hidden winch that really integrates into the factory bumper well.

I have the same generation/trim Ram 1500 quad cab with the 3.6, four wheel drive, a limited slip 3.55 rear and factory upgraded Wrangler ATS tires. It's unstoppable in the snow. It will go through snow twice that deep without complaint. It has 142,000 miles on it and has proven to be extremely reliable. Great Truck!

@4:00... When I was a kid, growing up in the suburbs of Boston, the only 4wd trucks had plows on them. Almost all work trucks were rwd. The only 4wd cars were Subaru's. I had an '86 XT GL-10 4wd.

Had a 2015 Ram 1500 rc, sb 2WD (1 tire fire if you will) true WT, no power options, vinyl seats, vinyl floors, with the Hemi. Lived in a province where it's snow/ice half the year. And never once got stuck...turn off traction control and it would plow through most anything. I was super impressed with the Goodyear SRA, that was my favorite truck!

My 2010 Sierra crew cab 5.3 SLT 4WD with my new Goodyear UltraTerrain (3peak snow rated tires) only available at Discount Tire (no I don’t work for them or have any sharehold in the company) here in Indiana have been the best tires I ever bought in the last 30 years of winter, I have never been more impressed with a winter tire. That truck is a keeper! Looks like a fun ride. If it were mine I would put Falcon AT3W tires on it, add front tow hooks, and run it as an every day driver. I think you should keep it stock with the exception of the tires and front tow hooks and keep it as a long term test! It would be interesting to see how it’s lifespan plays out!

I love my ram is the snow. I do have 20x12s with -44 offset with a set of 33x12.50 goodyear duratracs. In 2wd it will slide because of no weight, but put it in 4lock and it has all the traction and can go through anything. Absolutely love it

I remember living in Denver in the late 80s. I was cheap and bought a new Toyota truck, stripped with 2wd. Really crappy tires. I used to pile snow in the bed for traction. It was pretty bad. Can't believe I never got stuck.

I had a 1968 Old Tornado in 1979. From eastern SD, so we get our fair share of snow. There were days when 4x4 trucks, snowmobiles and I were the only things that were moving. That 455 over the traction wheels meant, let's go.

Ha, that was my very first car (‘68 Toronado) when I was 17 yrs old and that was in ‘79 also. And you are 100% correct about the Toronado , lots of weight over the front wheel drive, it handled well. What I didn’t like was the 7-8 mpg out of that 455 but the car was fast

My first truck was an 87 c20 that my grandfather gave to me, drove that thing around In the snow without issues! Just be prepared have good tires and some weight in the bed and make smart choices as where to park, keeping momentum in certain situations ect!

All season tires are usually ok for the first winter. After a year of wear the snow grip drops off a lot.

I bought a brand new 2015 RAM 1500 4x4 quad cab big horn with the 5.7 hemi and 8 speed. Got it on a model year end deal for 33k. Best purchase I ever made. Got about 110k miles on it now only problem I’ve had was the exhaust manifolds. Put some bbk shorty headers on it and not a problem since!

You have the BW 44-45 in that truck as well, so it's a better off road version than the BW 44-44 which has the automatic clutch plates which is better for on road 4wd performance. Both versions have their strengths and weaknesses.

I throw my set of blizzaks in the winter on my rwd silverado with the old g80 locking diff and I've never gotten stuck. To be honest I think I could get away without a 4x4 living in Colorado unless I go to really severe hills on the mountains but even then i can throw some chains if it was really necessary

@@chriscon8463 I used to run a half-ton Chevy with a Mid-Weight, and it did fine in a few inches without putting it in 4WD as long as you had some ballast in the bed. Where the 4WD performance really showed over 2WD, was trying to back-drag any amount of snow. It would push that plow in 2WD, but it sure didn't want to pull it with only two wheels spinning.

This truck is impressing me enough that I'm actually considering one. Inch or two of lift, some BF Goodrich KO2's, a bed liner, light weight brush guards with a little auxiliary lighting and a cat back exhaust and I think I'd be pretty happy with it.

I look forward to the winter with my '17 Ram with the V6 as well. And it's a quad cab too. However tires suck, dealers put 4 used Kelly Edge AT tires to replace the general grabbers that were on there all because 1 tire was a different brand when I bought it.

Put 2 side walk slabs in the box and 2wd is all you need with the open diff i do it every year , turn off traction control that will get you stuck faster.

I would love to see the same test with and without out weight in the back in 2wd. My grandfather has driven a RWD truck in Minnesota since the 70s and having approximately 300lbs in the back with some good tires has allowed him to go though all our winter snow and ice with little fanfare.

That's how my truck fails. It has some form of summer tire on it and it cannot handle ice without some real technique.

@morgan wintheiser I have always driven a 2 wd truck with limited slip and now my current truck has a locker. Never had a problem in 8-10” of snow with about 350 lb of weight in the bed. And I live within a 100 mi of the Great Lakes snow belt so I’ve driven thru lots of decent snows. A 2 wd truck is quite capable of getting around in winter without 4 wd. And in my area even after a 14” snowfall like I had last yr our roads are plowed to the pavement within 10-12 hrs. And with anything over a 11-12” snowstorm my county makes a level 3 go into effect, that means if you are not a first responder of have a definite reason to be on the road you get handed a big fat citation for being on the road. Yrs ago the county got tired of risking lives of patrolman trying to get some idiot dug out of a snow bank

@@seattleprowash5464 I use concrete pavers that are 12”x18”x1-1/2” thick and they weigh 30 lbs ea. They don’t take up much room in the capacity of the bed. And I don’t need all that weight unless a lot of snow is predicted

if you put some weight in the box you could get around in snow but you need about 500 pounds or fill the box with snow for weight

I had 2 punctures last 4 months. Second one couldn't be patched. Had to buy 4 new tires because the new tire would not match within 2/32 with the old tires. If you replace OEM with expensive new tires beware you have to buy 4 on 4WD vehicle. They will not replace just 1 ....

I would have spent the extra 2k for the Hemi. The V-6 is a gutless load that is constantly searching for the right gear to be in and it never found it because there isn't one! I rented this exact truck with 2wd and I got so tired of the thing gear hunting I ended up exchanging it for one with the hemi. I paid more of course but the V-8 was a pleasure to drive. Tons of power and was only about 2 MPG less overall. The V-6 belongs in a mini van or a sedan, not in a truck. (Funny thing is the Jeep has the same engine and transmission and they don't seem to have the same issue. I'm guessing a lower gear ratio is the reason. )

My dad has a 2wd F-150 with an electric locker. He has snow tires for the back wheels & puts 4 sandbags in the back during winter. He has no problems getting around & rarely has to use the locker!

It all depends on the gear ratio they got with the truck. If they have the 3.92 it has plenty of towing capability.

I think that’s just how they price structured it for the base models. For bigger cabs or upper trims like the Warloc, it’s only a $3500 up charge I believe. The crazier upcharge I found was cab configuration. Going from regular cab to quad cab is almost $10k.
