Maybe I came across a little overly negative. Let me reiterate, this monitor is fantastic for gaming. Its amazing inky blacks and near instantaneous refresh with little to no ghosting is unparalleled for gaming. It's just at a price point of $2,000 I was only willing to accept a lower resolution as the only compromise. Unfortunately, it looks like there's a few other points that came as a surprise with the aggressive auto picture level and brightness limiter and text sub pixel fringing.

You would hope at that price, it would be firing on all cylinders, though. The deal breaker for me was the size, which I feel is just too massive for a desktop monitor - factoring in the stand which forces it to sit even farther inward and it's just not worth the hassle. @@ITX-EcoClass Funny thing you should say. The size is the primary reason why I was so interested in this one. The 45" is amazing and I was looking for something larger than my 38". If you want something smaller, the LG38" is fine.

@@SuprUsrStan I'll look into it! I'm primarily interested in something that's parallel or better to my HP x27q's specs, which has a resolution of 1440p with a 165hz refresh rate. But I'm starting to get the impression those will run me a pretty penny in the ultrawide world. C'est la vie, I suppose, the search for a new gaming monitor continues!

I went with lg model so can vesa and after tax and adding 4 year best buy geek squad protect it came out to $2000 but at least I am covered for 4 years on burn in or any screen issues I would not buy direct from lg since they charge a 9% restocking fee

Thank you for a more "user perspective" review that didn't just focus on the cool features but speaks to the weaknesses that come from this design. It's far more helpful to people like me vs the more the "sales pitch" reviews out there. Things like the ppi, the lack of curve at the edges, the finickiness of getting an even curve, the brightness adjustment issue, etc. are all very important to know as an actual user and not spoken about in hardly any other reviews. At a $2000 price point, it's really important to know what I'd be getting for my money.

Thanks a lot for in-depth review as this really highlighted all of the text clarity and brightness issues as I have come to conclusion as you say "too many trade off" for this price tag as if I wanted to use for primarily coding and some gaming on the side. I just need to keep on looking. For me personally it's the ability to change the curvature and standardised 29:9 aspect ratio is the key for support of all games and software.

Yeah the bend issue would drive me crazy with my OCD lol. I've been tempted to pick this monitor up because I like the idea of the nice oled blacks but the downsides of the monitor aren't worth it for me. My LG38gl950g will remain my main for now (hoping for a Oled refresh of this exact panel). I Love that thing :)

You can get the LG version of the flex, that...doesn't flex and has a fixed 800r curve for $300 less than the flex.

For longevity purposes, just doesn’t seem smart. It’s also 2000 bucks. You could buy 2 48 inch C1’s for that price

Stan, you seem to know your stuff so I'll ask here. I'm in the market for a 38 inch ultrawide monitor and I've been trying to read up on this for awhile. I actually just watched your video on the very 38 inch monitor we see in the background here. I'm currently on a predator 32 inch ultrawide and since I go between games and productivity in starting to feel the lack of height much like you express in the other video. Now to my question. Is there in your mind a clear 38 inch ultrawide winner on the market currently?

If 38 21:9 the 38GL950G or 38GN950 are solid contenders. One's G-Sync one's G-Sync compatible. Both are 160+ refresh rate monitors. If you want slightly larger, LG does have a 40" 5K2K ultra wide but that one is is only 72 hertz maximum. Last one you might want to consider is a 38WN95C which is a thunderbolt version. This one tops out at only 144 though.

@@SuprUsrStan Thank you so much. I have a spreadsheet with eight contenders where these two were already looking strong! This narrows it down more! =) I also had Acer Predator X38S, Acer Predator X38P, Acer XR383CURP on the list as well as the Dell AW3821DW and actually another LG panel, namely the LG 38WN95C which looks to be similar to your two options albeit only 144hz and slightly worse stats overall.

Hi, I play competitive fps... Now I use a 34" 21:9 And I feel very good about it (better than 27" 16:9). I had tried the neo g9 32:9 but was too wide. Now I'm undecided between corsair xenon flex, or the new samsung G8 oled...Which one would you recommend, considering that I play about 60 cm from the monitor? Thank you

If you like your 34" 21:9 then stick with the G8 OLED. If you want something larger but sacrifice on PPI then consider the xenon flex. If you aren't itching to go big, the G8 OLED should be a good option.

3440 in a 45” monitor lol It’s only a widescreen, ultrawide isn’t 3440, even if they stretch it out to 45”, still 3440. The pixel density is atrocious. Why waste money on a stretched 3440 monitor?

That 4K 32” was a first gen G-Sync panel at 60 Hz. Surely a ultrawide OLED 240hz panel is an upgrade 😉
