Is the DemonFX Mini Chorus the GREATEST budget chorus?

A couple of years ago Panasonic started re-manufacturing the great old BBC chips.Not only that but they are made in China not Japan so they are very cheap. The gourmet brands were buying NOS decades old chips and paying major money for them. Now Chinese brands like demon FX can literally make these great pedals without compromise and very cheap. I have the Re-Issue Series NUX Analog Delay clone of the Ibanez AD80 that used sells for a few hundred. The NUX uses the identical parts and is $60.00 USD. My point is the DemonFx Chorus is not what we think of as 'clone' which uses the same topography but with contemporary parts. .....It is an actual replica.

@@Gloobtoob I haven't had the Demon apart. I have had look inside several of the Analog Man products and they do change parts as time goes by. The current KOT is not the same as one 2 years ago. Many pedals that use NOS have changed parts on a current model. Demon FX does a Wampler OD clone and it has parts from an older unit. The Wampler has changed them, and to cheaper parts as well.

The Mini Chorus is a clone of the Analog Man Chorus of the same name. The 3 way toggle switch = Thick, Thin , Stock and makes a big difference in tailoring your sound. It runs on 9vdc and draws 7mA (tested). I have this one as I refuse to pay some of the exorbitant prices, stay on waiting lists, and pay extra for features that like on this pedal come standard. Nor pay 100's for some magical mystical chip!

Ive got the Demon TS808/TS9 clone. I dig it a lot. Hadn't seen these though. Ive got a pretty shitty micro Ammoon chorus that has to be dimed to do anything so I think you sold one of these for Demon. Great demo as usual Chappie.

Should you be feeling guilty? Nope. All the original "boutique" builders started out by modding existing pedals - were they paying Boss a cut for all the DS-1 mods they did? Of course not. Then they moved on to making their own pedals, but almost always based on existing circuits. There are also tons of examples of independent pedal builders copying world famous circuits like the Klon exactly because it's a pedal you can't just buy any time at a reasonable price from the builder. That's very much the case with this pedal. Analogman insists on following a certain business model that keeps his pedals out of the hands of the average consumer. That's a choice he's made, and there's nothing wrong with it. The fact that this pedal exists isn't really even going to affect him. What consumer is out there who was going to spend big $$$ and wait a year for an authentic Analogman pedal but then decided "oh I'll just settle for cheap Chinese copy"? I'm pretty sure that customer doesn't exist. Anyway, the pedal world has always been, and always will be, a constant line of people copying each other, and Analogman is most definitely a part of that tradition. Buy all the cheap Chinese copies you want. The boutique guys are gonna do just fine.

I think the concern is the IP theft of the aesthetic here. Backwardly, the pedal industry largely don't give a hoot if you're ripping off the circuit itself, but don't rip the look off. I get what you mean though, if this product didn't exist it wouldn't mean those costumers would default to buying the analogman, they would just do without this specific circuit. It's taking no business from them, but it is taking the p*ss 🤣🤣🤣

@@BudgetPedalChap Yeah, when it comes to copying the aesthetic, the only legitimate concern I can see is that it's going to "trick" consumers into buying it thinking it's the real thing. It's hard for me to imagine that being the case since anyone who actually knows what the real thing is will also know that there's no way they're buying one from China for 40 bucks or whatever. Personally I kinda like the cheekiness of these pedals in how boldly they'll copy the aesthetic of the original. Handmade stuff is cool, but it's also kind of insane how much people obsess over hard to obtain gear, and I like the way pedals like this take the p*ss out of that whole thing. One of my favorite examples is the "HTR transparent overdrive" from Demonic Machines - a very obvious Klone that, in place of the "please keep in mind..." message says "I mean, it's not like I can just go buy an authentic one for a reasonable price, Bill."

Just picked up one of these. It sounds absolutely fantastic. Have wanted the real deal Analogman for a while, but if you’re outside the US, shipping, import duties & admin charges kill it: adding roughly 25% to the cost of an already expensive pedal. The Demon FX mini Chorus is a killer pedal! We can’t feel guilty on account of greedy governments. Pretty sure Mike is busy enough anyway.

The Tone City Angel Wing is another great budget chorus that stacks up against way pricier pedals. You should also be able to find a used MXR analog chorus pretty cheap and it's fantastic.

Several demos of this pedal do not state whether it is na ANALOG circuit. Also there is a massive confusion about toggle switch positions... the last demo seen here had UP for a REGULAR chorus, and CENTER for THIN...

This fantastic chorus is entirely analog built entirely through hole with very high quality components and faithful to the original model. It sounds identical to the mini chorus analogman at a fifth of the price and sounds much better than the original small clone, having a slightly more present mid/low range and also it is much quieter and has no pop when turned on. I have this chorus and I also have the mooer ensemble king which I recommend to those looking for the sound of the boss ce-2. And honestly I absolutely do not feel the need to have the original models. Highly recommended. I hope that the guys at Demonfx maintain this amazing quality/price ratio for a long time.

Have you tried the Joyo Analog Delay? I just got one for $30 on reverb along with this analogman inspired chorus. Also I have owned a Demonfx King of Drive Analogman King of Tone knockoff for a year and that pedal is a killer monster of a pedal worth checking out for $60.
