thank you for opening this dialogue and raising awareness!! this is a question i am asking myself almost daily. i have a life and people i love (local folks) in bangkok and i consider it my home. but i was *only * ever able to access and create my life there due to my western privileges and remote income. now i'm somewhere between i have this genuine love for this country, the place, the people, but i also have guilt and i don't want to perpetuate western gentrification at scale. i don't love thailand for what it gives me, but for what it is. and yet i get special falang treatment that my local friends won't ever get. it's complicated. hope to see more conversations like this! subscribing :)

Absolutely, also they don’t really bring any benefits to the country socially or economically other than putting up rent prices.

Yes. Looking at the technical skills of the nomads, SEA tech workers too can get white man's wages given the chance.
