In order to sell them they have to raise interest rates and the old long-term, low risk, low interest, AAA investments (including Treasury Bonds), held by the banks (often due to government regulatory policy), become next to worthless. Remember your History In the early 1960’s the US installed ICBM’s in Turkey pointed at the Soviet Union, a direct unprovoked threat to the Soviets. In response, the Soviet Union installed mobile ICBM batteries on Cuba, 90 miles from the US coastline. This is how the new BRICS+ global currency will work. They may call it Gold Gram (GG), a digital currency to be issued by the main BRICS council on ONE day, assume Aug 1, 2023. The quantity of GG to be issued is based on the actual gold reserves at each central bank or certified gold holdings, in grams. Assume Brent oil price on Aug 1, is US$ 80/barrel, the spot gold is US $70.5/gram. So the oil price of that day is 80/70.5 = 1.13 GG/barrel. Saudi produced 5 million barrels that day, then there will be a credit of 5,000,000 x 1.13 = 5.65 million GG to Saudi govt ARAMCO account. That same day Japan produced 10,000 vehicles valued at US $30,000/car, so BOJ has 10,000 x 30,000 /70.5 = 4.26 million GG to its credit. On Aug 2, 2023, Japan bought 1 million barrels of Saudi oil, at 1.18 GG/barrel spot price, with BOJ's credit of 1.18 million GG. The same day Saudi bought 5000 Japanese cars with 5000 x 30000/70.5 = 2.12 million GG from ARAMCO's credits. From there on, every body use GG as the global digital currency, based on COMMODITIES and products, NO local currency will be used for global trades. All the central banks and big finance banks are NOT allowed to loan out any GG more than what they have in their GG credit EARNED from commodities and products. No more house-of-cards with unlimited phony Fiat money. 🤔🤨😉🙃🙂😎

Andy , I heard you in rapt attention. You did touch upon the risk that is being generated by inspanning the world economy to US dollar. I think the world earned itself that risk. Every nation was ,recklessly and relentlessly, pursuing dollar to meet its international trade settlement obligations. When President Nixon declared that the US was, by way of a temporary embargo, forgoing dollar convertibility into gold, every nation should have grown circumspect about US solvency overall. Though the other side of the argument is that by limiting the total currency issue to o to a scarce metal which had nothing to do with volumes, needs and the reasons fir international trade, we were in fact killing the baby in the womb. I personally don't see why gold or crude should form the basis or the collateral of a Central Bank for its currency issue. If we treat a currency like any other commodity ( by delinking it from gold , crude or lithium or platinum or whatever else) , its printing( or supply) will be automatically be collateralized by its demand, which is, according to me a more plausible economic basis for currency printing. In which medium should the countries settle the trade obligations among themselves is a question that has been a major macro economic challenge for our policy makers. Western or first world countries had no problem for they could ask for settlement in their own currencies , the reason being that their currencies had the kind of demand at international level that they could print such quantities of their currencies to cater to demands of both domestic and international constituents. Theoretically speaking, let us presume that the world once again moves to a commodity ( for the sake of brevity let us gold) as a medium of settlement of trade obligations with other countries. The problem once again will be having enough supply of that commodity and the intense competition it will set off among countries to get hold of that commodity sometimes resulting in wars. Is that a justifiable outcome, Mr.Andy? You made a brief reference to a some kind of international currency like SDR being made the sole currency for settlement of international trade obligations. Once again, that will become some kind of an overarching currency union in which the powerful nations will push and overwhelm the weaker ones. The question will once again be: how much of that currency be allotted to each nation? Yes, I admit thar US has abused its reserve currency status by wanton printing of dollar bills. But ,I think these issues have no immediate resolution. The world must evolve to the needs as they arise , which will be the best choice for the time. Again, as the world evolves to a different regime of needs, that will again get reset. Let us leave it to the times ,Andy and not make too futuristic a conjecture. Once pound sterling was ruling the waves , now dollar , then may be who knows Yen, Renminbi, Rupee ,Rand , whatever that is. Well, I don't command your erudition on the subject, but, I do happen to read and hear a lot about US weaponizing dollar for its geo- politics. Now, there is a new order emerging known as global south. You didn't talk about it , Andy. I hope you will do a podcast on that too.

No, that is not what he is saying, although perhaps there are ulterior motives for portraying it as such. A lot of these countries will straddle both worlds. Brazil and the rest of South America views themselves as western. India will want access to both, etc. It won't be 2 separate sides, the world against America.
