I think the Draco series of AKs are pretty neat. I prefer the 12 inch barrel model, which is the actual Draco AK. The model in the video is a micro Draco with the shorter 6 inch barrel.. There is also a mini Draco with a barrel length around 8 inches. These are all very fun and cool looking guns, especially with the folding brace or a folding stock. The 12 inch version is that best all-around size for compact AKs in my opinion, better powder burn, less muzzle blast, higher velocity and better accuracy.

From a business perspective, as firearms technology has advanced, the need for long barrels to achieve useful velocities has fallen largely by the wayside. Firearms like the Romanian-made AKM-based “Draco” pistol are an exceptional choice for home defense, and are relied upon by a great many Americans. The addition of a brace to a “Draco,” or similar, yields what is likely the most optimal choice for an all-round defensive firearm. The market clamors for these firearms, and the industry has noticed. As a result, may small dealers have these firearms in stock, and have been put in an awkward position by the ATF’s recent about-face: stuck with thousands of dollars of inventory they are afraid to sell in the configuration demanded by the right-willed consumer.
@theguy92083 ай бұрын
rifles are not an exceptional choice unless you live in the country or hate your neighbours. any shotgun would be safer for your kids in the next room and have more stopping power than any rifle or handgun. browning auto-5s are still pretty common here, there are other semi autos available. otherwise you can get a pump gun that holds like 8 shells, more than enough for 4 ruffians in a hallway lmao paul harrel made a great video on shotguns for home defense, check it out

The M92 was the bad guy rifle of the 90s and 00s due to the use in Bosnian conflicts and also Iraq. Essentially a 7.62x39 SU, and also called draco. I think that the Yugo models are well manufactured and I prefer them to the romanian and bulagarian type short AKs that I have seen out there. I think use case is what we in the west miss most about the Tshushka. This was developed as more an SMG/PDW that could take the 150m shots if needed. I think the short 30 contributes well to a hunter's arsenal, especially in the modern rural-burbs hunting reality people live in these days. If you put the smaller calibers in a barrel like this, they tend to tumble. If you can divert the flash down range, or supress it, you have a really fun range toy with a nice boom. It isnt the most practical, but it might be one of the most fun out there because of the fireballs and boom. Its kind of like a mustang or something. It CAN tow a truck if you need to, but its heavy and loud, and thrilling to operate, and thats the point. It isnt the most powerful, and I think thats the appeal. It has such a different use and application than the stuff we are used to in the USA. States like michigan have requirements for caliber when you hunt, and 30 short is a nice comprimise for the folks in the burbs that want to hunt, and also have a unique 2gun or range toy, that is easy for newer folks to pick up and have a nice safe, and fun time. I think they are great for introducing folks to gun safety, manual of arms, range ettiquite, sighting, and a fun time at the range to boot due to the concussion.

@jdfriar3 ай бұрын
Gunsmith says: It's not useless but would be better in a high caliber handgun chambering. Something specifically made for a short barrel. AK bullets aren't cheap anymore and don't you dont get a heck of a lot of velocity out of such a short barrel. Also you can't carry as much ammo. Similar to other very short rifle conversions. I'd like it if it came in 44 magnum 10mm or 460rowland would be best.😊 all bigger diameter bullets.

Stay away from rimmed cartridges for larger capacity box or drum magazines. There are more than enough rimless carts out there.

@dashcammer4322 gunsmith says: if the mag is made with rimmed cartridges in mind It can feed better than a normal mag. The recesses in the mag wall that acomodate the rim prevent the case from moving forward and backward under recoil. Just a bit tougher to make.

Great video. I think it’s would make a great “build” video: Making the most useful Draco possible. Maybe it just needs a longer barrel, silencer, light and red dot. That’s just my opinion

wait that's a brace?
@kylevidetto11153 ай бұрын
Yes, some parts of the video show the Velcro strap tightened around the end plastic piece, conveniently repurposed for a makeshift "stock", even though it's not a buttstock whatsoever. If the user's arm can pass through the plastic and Velcro, it's 100% a brace.
@teru7973 ай бұрын
@@kylevidetto1115 Man I love that.
@dashcammer43223 ай бұрын
Yes, and though it's used as a makeshift stock, effectively making this an SBR, it's a pretty crummy stock, not having a real buttplate, just the outline of one. Alternatively, you can just buy a bullpup rifle that's about 26" OAL with a 16" barrel that will give you better accuracy, velocity, and a real buttplate. Tavor X95 for example.
@barryparker8933 ай бұрын

@@dashcammer4322 well if one were to say as an example, hold a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 outwards with only one hand or use a classic two hand pistol/revolver hold and not use the buttstock to the shoulder (not that it's a brilliant idea or anything, I wouldn't recommend it) to aim and shoot at the targets, does that count as an overly long handgun? Or is it still a rifle just as the manufacturer claims? Still, I definitely agree that a bullpup rifle configuration is more preferable to me than a (braced) large frame pistol is. This is why I would not work from the ATF ever.
@NvrchFotia3 ай бұрын
I think the mini is the sweet spot. I think it has similar velocity to 300blk from a 10 in barrel with its 7.75 in barrel. KNS also makes an adjustable piston for it. It has a standard rear sight as well.
