Coming from an experienced wasteland chef, deathclaw might not be the best choice because it’s a lizard. Very tough and gamely flavor. Also dangerous. Mole rat is delicious once you get past the fact you’re rating a giant hairless rodent, but you haven’t lived until you’ve eaten a Brahmin burger. Imagine a real cow but juicer and tastier meat. Pair it with some tato, some cheese, and some sauce and you’re talking. I’ve never been big into seafood so I can’t speak for the mirelurks and the anglers but I’ve heard angler is very fishy and that mirelurks are better than any normal crab. Eating a cat is something I’ll never forget, not because I’m scarred by the experience, but it was a strange situation nonetheless. Radstag meat is fine but forgettable, just like my normal deer. Yao Guai meat is inedible. Don’t eat bugs. They’re hell on your digestive system. I’ve never had iguana bits. Everything else just tastes like it’s normal world counterparts. Pork and beans is bean with bacon, cram is spam, you get the idea. Pair it with a nice Nuka cola or an Enclave purified water and you can thrive in the wasteland.

I've made the Buffout cookies before! It's basically green tea flavored shortbread IIRC, and you may have just had your matcha clump up when mixing the dough. I really wanna get the cookbook now though to try the rest of the recipes (that Deathclaw one looked AMAZING).
@MisoHungrie2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's very possible that my matcha clumped up. And yeah the Deathclaw recipe is fantastic!

Great video! The cookies just look a little over cooked. Try a convection setting if you have it on your oven and use a cooling rack to put the cookies on right after you bake them (the hot cookie sheet will continue to cook the bottom.) You could always use food coloring to get a more vibrant green.

The recipies sound good, I'd just have a hard time to find the ingredients. Who carries matcha powder during the apocalypse?

I have made the crab cakes in this book several times, once with actual crab and twice with jackfruit to make a vegan alternative. I have also done the duck power noodles both with meat and vegan as well. Both are good recipes.

The cook book gets pretty close to the fallout feel but just to give it that extra zest I usually stick a nuclear isotope next to the dish for 2 to 3 hundred years

Please do more from this book. I have the book but the recipes are pretty expensive to make. They have all these whacky spices and use other pretty expensive ingredients so i haven't tried to make anything yet.

(oh hey MisoHungrie if you really reading this, make the buffout a bit bigger and don't make it super flat because it can cook faster and be brown. I use a normal cookie scoop and lightly flatten it and follow instructions and the cookies came out green) This is my opinion of the cookbook please don't be rude as I explain my opinion. This cookbook is fantastic not only I love fallout but this book is so much fun to read especially the scribble text and "replacements" of meats and vegetables. It even mention some stuff not only in the game but it tells you the stats on what can bring up your special. The food on some of the recipes are pretty good. The instamash is amazing since it's mashpotatoes but a hint of fresh Rosemary and blue cheese and the radstag curry udon is really good. Some recipes even MisoHungrie said is a miss like the buffout recipes, you get a tiny hint of Matcha and a hint of allspice. While the blamco Mac and cheese is a bit watery even by looking at the recipe picture it looks watery. Theirs nothing more for me to say about this cookbook, to me it's one of a kind and a excellent cookbook plus a fun one to cook and to read I give it 9/10

So far, everything I've tried from the cookbook has been fantastic. I especially love the sauce for the spiced crab legs / mirelurk meat. That stuff works fantastically on so many foods, it's nuts. I need to make a huge batch of that sauce.

While the recipes look great, I really hoped more of them would be taken from the game since the Fallout world has so many canon dishes, and not just a bunch of real world dishes with Fallout references thrown on. While I appreciate the recipes that are of foods in the game like Blamco mac and cheese, as well as spins on in game foods like the Nuka Cola BBQ sauce or Tato soup, things like the vegetarian meatloaf being crossed out and replaced with baked bloatfly just felt a bit disappointing. I was also confused by the prevalence of Asian dishes that are kind of jarring when paired with the 50s Americana aesthetic of the Fallout universe. Though overall it's still a fun book to have part of my collection!
@MisoHungrie2 жыл бұрын
All very good points. I do feel like a handful of the dishes just had the Fallout theme tacked on without a rhyme or reason. Maybe somewhere down the line there's gonna be another Fallout cookbook that will be more thematic.

I'm not a fan of cooking/tasting/eating videos, but I really like the idea behind the video: making foods that are famous in a video game, it was really satisfying to see the connection between real life ingredients and fictional ones. I already watched your Elder Scrolls video, which was also very good, that sweetroll looked very fucking good. I don't know much about your channel, but if you made or will make videos about famous foods in video games / movies, then I'll definietly subscibe. Take care and don't cook with wonderglue.

If you make the Nuka Cola, I'd reccomend a bit more juice and a bit less on the spices, they came across really strong.
