The ability to work on a car is the only reason I can afford to drive BMWs. I recently did the timing chain on my 2003 540. Cost me about $500. Would have been over $2k at a shop. The feel and style of the 80s is a great reason to buy an early 90s rwd Volvo. Reliable, fun and safe!

The Ferrari Mondial is HELLA cool - it has a trunk that can swallow a full-set of golf clubs, back-seats for holding a weeks' worth of luggage, a Connolly leather interior, and a reliable V8 that makes all the good noises and provides plenty of 'go'. Let the haters whine - most of them can't afford a Porsche, let-alone a Ferrari, and wouldn't know how to change the oil in either car.

I do not like big dimension of new sportcars. But this is just normal sized. Stuff like USB/Bluetooth retro radio BLAUPUNKT BREMEN fits in, like it was original there. I love old cars sound, but I thought flat subwoofer could be hidden somewhere back as well. If I wanted daily any Ferrari, it would be this, except I like Mondial T interior much more, for it looks more like 348 and 355 interior.

My uncle back in the early 90s bought both a 88 328 GTB and a 88 Mondial convertible. Both cars where in Rosso Corsa. As a kid I loved going for rides in the car and as a teen I got the opportunity to help detail and even drive the car in the garage learning the importance of clutch modulation. @susannero6401 Жыл бұрын
Great video -- thank you! One minor point: I'm not sure that Mondials didn't sell; after all, it had an over 10 year run (if you include the t's). I think the biggest problem is that the roll out of the Mondial coincided with the fuel injected (2 valve) motor, which was slower. Injected 308's were also slow, relatively speaking, but the Mondial got saddled with a bad rap, even though the later versions were good performers. Also, there were more electricals -- all those switches on the center console -- and electrics are not Ferrari's strong suit. But a great car -- I have a 3.2.

So jealous! Back in ‘01 I had a chance to buy a ‘74 308GT4 that needed a great deal of work. It was a euro model imported new in ‘74 by a Texas doctor who used it for a bit of motor sport before he passed away. From there is sat at a university for almost 25 years before it was back in private hands. That guy knew he had bitten off more than he could chew, so he listed it for sale. I made a deal with him and gave him a deposit. 3 days later he sold it out from under me. I got my money back, but would have preferred the car for sure.

@@Richard-HiFiMan in 2001 what did they want for it? 15-20K?
@Richard-HiFiMan Жыл бұрын
@@sltillim it needed a lot of work (lots of body work) so I was getting it for $10k. I think most decent ones were going for $20k at that time. I really miss the days when some of the older models were actually affordable.

On my 1988 Mondial 3.2, I’ve had my Koni shocks rebuilt by Ian Gardiner Racing in Finedon, England. They are now like new. We are renewing the bushes now, using stock Ferrari bushes, not after market ones. Research shows stock are best! My car drives beautifully up to 83mph but I need new bushes for trackday’s! I’ve previously had it to 140mph at Silverstone and it was still wanting to go faster. It’s done 75,000 miles, & I love it. My previous Mondial was the 3.4t. Not as reliable and the engine out servicing was unaffordable. I joined the Ferrari Owners’ Club in 1982 & have owned 4 308 GT4’s & a 246 Dino, which was rusty. GT4’s are great but spare parts are hard to find, hence now having the Mondial 3.2! I’ve never had a bad moment driving it. These have ABS but no power steering. That’s mostly no hardship. It’s a great cruising car. They were built to take a family across a continent at speed in comfort, it is superb in that role! Mondial 3.2 QV wheels take modern tyres and can be fitted to 3.0 QV’s too. In England we have speed camera’s everywhere plus unmarked cop cars! I’m careful on the daily driving but using the Mondial on a track it comes alive!

I like 'em. I wouldn't *own* one these days, but I think I'm off cars right now. I had the use of a 1986 model 20odd years ago (courtesy of a former boss) and I genuinely thought it was a decent car. Of similar era cars I was able to drive at the time it was probably my favourite, the only issue I had with it was that it was LHD (cos - British). But then I also preferred my mates 944 S2 over his 964 turbo. It may not be the fastest nor the prettiest, but it was infinitely more practical to use day to day than a Testarossa I also got to use a couple of times, it just felt more 'usable' if ya catch my drift. I don't dislike the black wheels, as you pointed out the accents are satin black so they complement the car in that respect, silver would maybe date it a touch but appear more authentic, but whatever you do, please don't stick gold/bronze rims on the thing though...

The motoring press pre interweb and now all the YT car ‘experts’ spent the last 30 years telling everyone that the Mondial, the little Dino thingamebob and the 400i were all crap, so no one wanted them and they remained affordable for the plebs like me. Now that everything else can only be bought with stupendous amounts of unobtainium, or by selling your first born and a kidney, suddenly all of the very same car ‘experts’ are now telling us how fantastic these cars are and how everyone must rush out and buy them. So guess what, in a few days time these will also be just as unobtainable for everyone except for the super-stupid (cough), I mean super rich. They’ve done the same with the 924, 944 and 928. the Ferrari Mondial, in the public eye, is to Ferrari, what the 924, 944 and 928 were for Porsche. great cars, but no brand enthusiast will accept them as proper brand representations. which is a shame, because they are great cars, even if they were created, designed or build differently from the other brand vehicles. there's tons of cars out there like that, just brand underdogs, they either tried something to radically different from the norm, compete against another car and fail miserably, despite being a good car. or, as we see in modern days, the specific car just keeps getting bigger and bigger until they can release a new smaller model car and start scaling that up slowly over time. or a brand takes a beloved well known car *coughcoughintegracoughcough* and turns it into another bland 4 door sedan trying to bank on the nostalgic name and nothing else. i drive a third gen MR2. yeah it looks like a wanna be Porsche boxter spyder with a lack of power. but it's genuinely a nice fun affordable little underdog. and yeah, it tried to compete with "the" roadster, and was just unfairly tossed aside when it couldn't compete on the practicality front. but as a 6'1" with longer legs i don't fit in the driver seat of an NA or NB Miata without crushing my knee caps between the door and the steering wheel. and the NC is just a boat with a droptop, both in looks and weight.
