The FR-556 in Modern Warfare III has always been overshadowed by the DG-56 but over time, it's received a tons of small buffs and reworks. Today, I wanted to revisit this burst rifle by comparing it to the other burst assault rifles, sharing my new favorite setups, and discussing my opinions on the current state of the gun. 3:40 I agree. I think it should be a one burst kill if you added one headshot into the mix. I find it ridiculous that two headshots are needed for a one burst kill when many of the SMGs and ARs can outgun you. It's already hard enough to land those headshots when everyone is moving like a coked up mongoose.

Honestly I think the Rival 9 AMP is currently the best burst weapon in the game. It can compete as if it was an AR up to a pretty solid range, it’s extremely accurate and has great handling and TTK

I got my camos for this gun today after avoiding it because of the gun guide. My takeaway is that this is the most consistent gun in the game. I was confident taking any gunfight past 10m knowing I just needed to get two bursts off. Pleasantly surprised

Maybe but people play small maps 90 percent of the time and they can't get what you are saying. And that is the issue with this game.

I think people are not using this gun optimally. Ive had fantastic success with this gun as an alternative to marksman rifles. Put a 2x scope on it, pump up the range, aiming idle sway and firing aim stability and it smokes the long range competition out to like 60+meters. Very good when used this way. 3+kd in tdm since using this last patch.

The SVA545 is still my preferred "burst" weapon. With the 60 round mag multi kills get fun.

@@guywithdreads kinda like bursting any other assault rifle pulling the trigger repeatedly and even holding it to get a few more shots on target. However, with the SVA those first two shots are rapid and so accurate.

@@guywithdreads First two rounds are a hyper burst that shoot out at the same time. In single fire, it only shoots those two hyper burst rounds per trigger pull.

Like I said before: FR556 = long range burst, M16 = mid range burst, DG = short range burst. They all fill their roles well, and each of them do things differently. If you're trying to use the FR up close, you're using it wrong.

What about instead of changing the HS multiplier or adding just the neck to the HS range, we add a 3SK to the upper torso (and only upper torso) in the closest damage range? So all three bullets of a burst need to hit upper torso, or 2 need to hit neck/head area up close. Given that shoulders wouldn't count for this combined with the high mobility options in the game I think this would stay fairly reasonable.

The attachments being reworked was a great balance. The Famas had some terrible disadvantages to most of it's attachments. So far the FR is in a more usable state , however I would like to see a buff to it's base ammo. 25-30 bullets. If not then definitely add more multipliers to the neck or shoulders. Always running out of ammo with this weapon tbh

It feels viable, though not quite meta. You can build it with a surprisingly quick ADS, though it feels better for range.

I love this gun. It might not have the best ttk to the body but it's accurate to get more consistent one burst kills. On top of that it has the best range and it outguns other ar's at range.

In practice, quite a few other ARs are better than the FR-556 at longer ranges. The MTZ-556 and RAM-7 have faster and more consistent TTKs at any range, for example, and are more forgiving of missed shots. The FR-556's accuracy isn't enough to bridge the gap due in large part to its longer burst delay. The burst-fire weapons in MW3 simply need more buffs.

@@Ccubed92 People obviously care which guns are better or there wouldn't be much point to gun guides, would there? I'm also not trashing the FR-556. I'd just like it to perform better than it currently does because I happen to like burst weapons. It'd be a nice change of pace if the FR-556 did indeed have the best range and outgunned other ARs, but that's not the case and realistically MW3 has a good variety of ARs, not just one or two, that perform just as well if not better than the FR-556 in key areas.

I think you need to factor in the ads and sprint out times when comparing the guns. TTK can look massively different after you factor that in

I find that my 'timing' goes off using a burst weapon; it takes me a few games to get back in the groove of getting success. And, goes the same the other way; when going back to no-burst, there's a 're-training' period. Unless I'm doing a challenge, I stay away from burst guns.

No you do not, just download warzone. But your guns will start from lvl 1 so you’ll need to level them up for them to be useable with attachments

It has some place as a '0-recoil' gun, but it can't really compete with the MCW in that niche, let alone snipers. I was using the M16 for the challenge today, and it is not even close accuracy-wise with a moderately accuracy focused setup, despite its recoil getting buffed earlier.

I hate that we don't have a single good burst AR in this game. The best you can say about all 3 of them is that they are usable. 56 needs more range 16 needs better recoil (even after the recent buff the recoil is awful, full auto ARs can stretch their ranges out better than this piece of crap) 556 needs that one headshot burst kill (attachments are also pretty awful on it for some reason)

While the average cod gamer wants everything to be overpowered i enjoy the mid to oow tier guns and still being on top the leaderboard. The average gamer isnt gettting paid or a pro the game is meant for fun at the end of the day

This is so sad for me because this is my favorite gun of all time since 2009 mw2, but 2 burst burst guns suck, it needs to have 1 burst potential not requiring headshots, they need to add a torso or upper torso multiplier for 1 burst kills 1 shot to upper torso, or 3 shots to full torso to make it usable, even if they have to make it 4 round burst, also the m16. The holger kit is the only real burst gun in the game right now. Also along with that they need to add in the throwback audio pack for 2009 mw2 sounds from guns for this and acr, that was one of the best things cod ever did and the only bundle I ever got n the intervention is my favorite sniper ever n with that throwback sound I'm in heaven, idk why they stopped making throwback audio packs. They could do the famas, acr, tar, scar h, model 1887s, m4, mp5, n theres more im forgetting.

@@sirgrizzlypfote6369 Weapons that kill in one shot have way worse handling, flinch, and fire rates. Burst guns shouldn't one burst in 3 shots because they'll outgun every full auto in the game. Look at the carv from CW. It's a 4 shot kill burst gun and it's still viable and quite balanced compared to the m16 and aug. 150 health isn't a problem unless you only hit your first 2-3 shots before missing. All of those ideas are very extreme and won't end well.
