Yes, people often have a difficult time holding two ideas, simultaneously, in their heads: 1) this camera is adored on social media; and 2) this camera is a capable device. Both things can actually be true.

Its 200 bucks more than the previous model but they give you a better processor, 40 megapixels, 10bit recording, IBIS, 6k, new film simulation. In otherwords, its totally worth it.

I really appreciate your nuanced point of view! My reaction to many negative reviewers (on any camera) is that their arguments are often based on what they think the camera lacks - that it doesn’t have everything they want. One must evaluate these things for what they are, and the intention of its design. You can’t disparage an acoustic guitar because it doesn’t sound like a solid body electric. The X100VI is enticing for its features and price. But I’ve been using a Leica Q2 for a couple of years…so, this would be a secondary camera for me I think. But the X100VI is so stinking cool, and a great tool for its design intention. In the internet/influencer age, sales can quickly catch fire.
@LucaPetraliaPhotography9 ай бұрын
Very good video, as an owner of the X100VI I can only agree with you. The more I use it the more I like it and reminds me why I chose Fujifilm when the initial model got launched
@venom2k29 ай бұрын
Well said! Your closing argument is spot on. I love this camera and it compliments my x pro3 nicely. The x100vi is expensive, but if you compare cameras it doesnt look so terrible anymore, especially if you compare it to the xt5. You get a lens at least, miss some specs and win some specs. I sold a lot of lenses and only kept the 14mm f/2.8, 18mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/2, 80mm f/2.8 and the Viltrox 27mm f/1.2. I could replace the 18mm with the converter lens, but I want to keep the x100vi small.
@thirdmort9 ай бұрын
One thing you didn't mention that is a huge reason I love the x100 series: the leaf shutter. I love being able to take nearly silent photos without worrying about electronic shutter issues (banding, readout speed, etc). Add flash sync to that and it's got a neat party trick. I have an X100V and if you tried to buy and xe4+23mm f2, it would have cost you the same price as the X100. I love mine and it's a shame people are dismissing this new one just because it's over hyped.

Interesting discussion, I really appreciate your balanced view on the different arguments surrounding this camera. I think lots of Creators could learn from your transparent way of discussing all relevant aspects regarding camera gear, be it positive or negative. @@TobisTings I'd watch that. I'd be interested to see photos at the same equivalent apertures and same lightroom profiles applied; i.e. x100vi at f2 vs Lecia at f/2.8. I'm pretty sure the Leica will look much sharper and with smoother bokeh rendering but still fun to see.

x100VI has no competition aside from previous versions. Jacket pocketable fixed lens 40mp camera, IBIS, built-in ND filter, leaf shutter, decent video capabilities, film sims, and aesthetics. The only cameras that can really compare are Leica Q2/Q3 (3x the price), Sony RX1R (too old and 2x price), Ricoh GR3 (too small, not tactile, worse IBIS, no WR), A7CR w/ pancake (2x+ the price), Fuji XE2 w/ pancake (close but no WR, not updated to new sensor/processor yet).
@Steve-jc1ez3 ай бұрын
Dear Fuji… make a fixed lens rangefinder camera 📷 with a full frame sensor, to directly compete with the Q. Also allow for more color adjustments (recipes) in camera. You’ll crush it. 😉

I try to get one. As a grab and go camera. Using canon for my KZbin stuff and my magazine and am happy with those but the Fuji is going to be the one to bring for fun, for taking bts footage and for just having fun. It’s light, portable and as you mentioned: ND Filter, good focal length (for me, love to shoot with 35mm on my R8) plus you have got the film simulations. What more do i want. Still thinking from time to time about about a Ricoh, but not sure about that. Happy weekend and thanks for your thoughts on this one.
@andrewcrossley24489 ай бұрын
A friend at work sold his X100F to get the 28mm Ricoh. As he bought the Ricoh second hand he didn’t need to add any funds. He likes it as he’s a cyclist so small is better for his purposes. He liked the Fuji. Told him I’d just got the VI for ibis, 40mp and 6/4k for city shooting and travel. Still thinking about a wide angle converter but adding extra bit on ends up costing more than the top Fuji mirrorless with good zooms.
@koolpep9 ай бұрын
In order to be hip it needs to be hard to get (waiting lists) and expensive. However this camera is also very very good!
@MPD908 ай бұрын
I don’t buy the ‘creativity’ argument for a fixed lens, you can do that with a ILC, and in fact I do (my a6400 permanently has a single prime attached). The benefit of the fixed lens is really much more tangible than that. It’s optimised for the camera it’s attached to and it’s very compact as a result. That’s the magic. Try to find a APS-C ILC lens that offers the performance of the X100V/VI lens at anywhere near the size, it just doesn’t exist. If you want something compact, with a big sensor, genuinely nice-to-use manual controls and great performance, basically Fuji is the only option. Drop any one of those requirements and there’s a bunch of options, but if you want all of those requirements it’s only Fuji (Leica gives the FF equivalent but at a vastly different price point). p.s. I also think that’s why a lot of camera enthusiasts don’t get the X100 series. If you are an enthusiast and you enjoy a bag of lens options etc, then this camera really offers very little. But for a lot of people carrying around a bag of lenses is a complete no-go, so this camera may make a lot more sense to them.

I had the X100V and in some ways it felt like a well built camera, but in other ways not so well built. I had the X-Pro3 at the same time and that camera felt clearly better built than the X100V. I’d personally advise people to get an X-Pro3 if you can find one. A much better camera with the ability to add lenses.

I agree that the x100v feels delicate, like it would be easy to damage unintentionally unless you’re very careful with it, as I tend to to be.

Hey Tobis, What I don't understand is why every review is liking the camera but want to bring out some negative parts so they don't get labeled as the tik tok social media hype guys. It's not interchangeable, it's not for movie makers obviously it's not for sport so let's review purely for it's design purpose. It's like if a car was being reviewed eg after a ford hatchback. Its a good car but its not a sports car...it's not a 7 seater, you can add a towbar but it won't pull a caravan etc. Let's also compare it to something 3x price... 😂
@findermanimages9 ай бұрын
I struggle to understand your point about its lens. If the 23mm f2 was a perfect marriage with the X100V's 26mp sensor, how is it still a perfect marriage to the 40mp sensor? There are too many videos showing soft images for me to be convinced by your findings. I trialed the X100V when it first came out and I had many, many soft images and miss-focused images. Sure, it could have been me, but I've been using Fuji for a while and know its downsides.
@R4YHAN7869 ай бұрын
You can always download full size images from websites, I can assure you the images are not soft. The 40mp sensor and the lens resolves incredible detail.

I agree I have a lot of great shots including portraits of my 8 year old daughter and they are sharp. Autofocus is much improved compared to X100V. Camera works much faster, but it’s not a sports camera ;) after 5-6 rapid shots it takes some time to write this, but you can still shoot but not as fast as needed for sports. In jpg only it is better but I shot mostly heif + raw

I saw a video of a guy mention the X100VI feels a little less premium on the build side.. he said being built in China might have changed some kind of overall feel.. did you notice anything like that?
@zenstoodi9 ай бұрын
I can share my experience, built quality is the same. One complaint I have is ports door which is little loose when closed but i don’t remember how it was in X100V because I’ve sold it 2 years ago. This is not just my unit as I know it’s by design confirmed with Fuji.
@venom2k29 ай бұрын
Main camera is the x pro3 with duratect coating. I had the xt30, the x100f, xe4 and now x100vi. Nothing screams "made in China". Build quality is not close to the x pro3, but doesnt feel bad or cheap either. I think the x100f and xe4 didn't feel premium and neither does the x100vi. Absolutely no worries about the made in China Tag and people need to chill. Even Japanese factories can have faulty products and made in china doesnt translate to cheap plastic crap you had in the 80s and 90s.

There are 3 groups of people...those who only see it as a prestige object...then those who see it as an object of speculation. And then those who see it for what it is. A great camera that was never particularly cheap. A few years ago, when I was a Fuji fan from the very beginning, no one was interested in this camera...or in the brand either. Many laughed at her. Then came some influencer idiots who “discovered the camera for themselves” But can't do anything with the brand. They now get the camera in front of those who really want it. I was lucky enough to get them straight away. Others wait forever. Unfortunately. It's a shame that it all turned out this way. Especially for those who have always loved this brand and identified with it. I have had every camera from this series and am absolutely thrilled. This will remain so. Never saw it as an investment or prestige object. But simply for what it is...an excellent camera.

Overpriced for a camera? No not really. Overhyped by stupid hipster and influencers yes definitely. Problem is 90% of them get it because it's hip not for what it can as a camera and tool. That's the problem Ibis, leaf shutter, viewfinder. So much that's speaks for it as a camera. Nothing these hipster ever heard about or know how to use. Fujifilm should relaunched something like the X30 and leave the professional cameras for people that are more into photography

The fact is Fuji make good digital cameras with pleasing ergos especially if you come from shooting manual film bodies. What I do find amusing is the trend of photographing your cameras that’s just some kink I’ll never understand , I’m interested in the result not what the tool looks like or says about you. Overpriced fad fashion for tik tokers and insta....not worth $2500 USD...I returned it quickly, kept my 100V. Images are not very sharp and noisy, due to squeezing 40 megs out of a APSC...the prior version takes better images. The lens is not compatible with the sensor. Outcomes don't match the price. Best for street shooters IMO
