Shooting at double the frame rate does not require double the bitrate for the same quality because of compression. The entire frame is not saved for every frame, just the changes. The faster the frame rate the lower the amount of change there will be. It will require a higher bitrate but nowhere near double for the same quality. How the DJI system handles compression is a good way to see how complexity of the image and rate of change of the image changes the quality. Flying fast over complex terrain can cause focus mode to kick in even if the signal remains strong. An identical flight using double the frame rate should have the effect of reducing how much is stored per frame.

Video compression works by mostly storing the differences between each frame. As Tom Alperin says below, higher frame rates mean less frame-to-frame motion, so more efficient compression. Full disclosure notice: I work for GoPro

Just got the Hero 11 Mini, I do also the colorist in real life. The quality difference from the 10 is astounding if you know how to grade stuff manually. (i'm on the stock firmware, 4K50 10Bit)

you do have 10 bit in 4:3 or 8:7, not just 16:9 and the MBPS arguement is somewhat valid, but not all frames are calculated frame by frame, only the changing frames., this is why some parts of a moving image ( like the background which changes slowly, have more detail in them. ) long GOP vs all intra compression.

4:57 The killer feature is the sensor and it's ability to re-frame for YT, IG, etc. The Hero 11's file size at 5.3K 60fps is what? 30MB/second? KZbins max stream size is what less than 1MB/second? That 30X reduction in quality. Most phones and cameras will have the final quality reduced by over 90% when exported to social media. Dedicating that high initial quality and file size to something truly useful like changing the format from horizontal (KZbin) to vertical (IG) is a great use of technology! Similar to the Insta360's ability to reframe.

Why does that guy use gyroflow instead of reelsteady ? Every time I’ve ever used gyroflow on GoPro footage it looked worse than reelsteady, especially the export transcode.

Wow such a great point. People automatically think that because the 11 can produce 10 bit color, that it means they're going to get the best image or picture. Not necessarily true at all. Thank you for sharing @Joshua

This is wrong. You can shoot 8:7 10bit. And you will be able to shoot 4:3 10bit. Also as you say with labs, you can shoot 200mb/s and something you can do with the 11 that you can’t do with the 10 is get variable bitrate just in case your sd card doesn’t support high bitrate. What it does is, I goes more than 100 mb/s until the point your sd card can handle it instead of stop recording as the 10 was doing. It means if your sd card can handle 150 mb/s maximum and you put 200 it will go to 150 automatically instead of stop recording

Oh wow I had no idea you can’t do 10bit in the 8:7 mode, I thought it was just high frame rate that it wouldn’t let you do 10bit in. Shame cause I really wanted it for the 10bit

That's an argument I always made about GoPros, but no one ever seems to listen to (or to think about). The point is: we don't need GoPros in FPV. Because, if you're going to fly professionally you're going to need something better. The filming industry won't accept it, you're going to need a Red Komodo or something like that. And if you're flying just for fun, to share videos on yt... Many cheaper cameras are going to do a good enough job. So... Go figure.

Actually very well put. I’ve been flying for over 6 years and never once did I want to make my videos public. Having zero narcissistic blood in my veins I never understood the lust for attention people have developed. Also turning a hobby into a job I learned 30 years ago how that can ruin your passion. The world of videography is a flooded market. Thank goodness I made excellent business choices and never have to work again…

Professional does not automatically mean cinema camera. Most companies you do a video for, especially local, lower budget companies are not trying to pay cinema camera prices unless they really have a reason.

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THE 11mini I am returning mine The gopro is controled by 2 buttons, pain in the a** right ? I as a ''genius'' i thought that i would simply edit all my settings (video modes) on the Quik App and then scroll with the 2 buttons in betwens my settings on the camera. Brilliant ? nope ! YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE VIDEO SETTINGS AT A TIME ! When i use my gopro i always switch in between my 4-5 favorite video modes : Sunny - Sport - Underwater - Slowmo (2x 4x 8x) ... And each video modes have differents settings (resolution - frame rate - stabilisation - shutter speed ...) So now, to ''switch'' in between video modes, i have to clicks 15 times on the gopro, 15 TIMES AND THATS NOT ALL more precise settings like shutter speed and stabilisation (and many more) CAN ONLY BE CONTROLED ON THE APP !!! Gopro are meant to often be use where you cant take you phone out.. especially with the smaller version.... That. is. a. shame. Gopro failed on this one. Yes it can be fixed in a software update, but for now, my vacation is in 4 days and i am pissed (probably like a lot of people were) Other thing, the volta handle (with battery built-in) comes with a usb pass-through door for the gopro 11 standard only, not the mini (second time they pissed me off)
