I bought my Goldwing in 1986 and it is still running great, just had it inspected for the annual state inspection and it passed with no problem, I have been riding this one bike for 36 years now and plan to keep riding as long as I can, I am 75 years old now and still love my 1986 Wing.

A little late to this one but I'm just enjoying your content and will likely subscribe in the future. It's almost 2024, the 2023 GW's are selling so those Facebook/Instagram brain surgeons/rocket scientists got it wrong........ again. As the baby boomer GW owners age out, Honda loses a lot of their fan base. However, since 2015 there has been a concept trike under constant development by Honda engineers called the Neo Wing. It leans in turns differentiating it from a Bombardier Spider. This may be the vehicle to bring back all those GW retirees to Honda and maybe by 2025. It would be interesting to hear a segment from you, CM on this Neo Wing concept bike.

@@dinospumoni8860 Don't bother. By that time Bifen economics will have trashed the gas engine almost out of existence and the emissions standards for that year the GW as it is will not pass mustard. I play the wait and see game. When the GW hit 27k I stopped pretending I wanted another one.

I've had Wings since November 1975 when I bought my GL1000 and have been riding Gold Wings ever since; I currently have a 2015 40 Anniversary model, my 6th Wing. I don't like the small bags and trunk on the current generation, although Honda did go to a larger trunk in 2021. I'd like the bags and trunk to be the same size as the ones on the GL1500SE. Those were great, roomy and a good useful shape. Honda needs to offer a greater color choice and keep the manual transmission.

Great video, Below a couple of things I like to see on newer models • Hornbutton for me is muscle training, but can be redesigned • Full screen LCD like the 2022 BMW k1600 gtl, customizable of course • I do like a built in GPS, but with internet connectivity for weather, traffic, fuel prices etc. • Intercom system for rider and passenger. Also the option to share phone calls. • Passenger controls, so they can pick what they want to listen to, and adjust volume • Better seat. Adjustable • Volt meter, oil temp, trans temp • Redesign the filler for the fuel tank • Automatic suspension adjustment • Wireless CP/AA, wireless charging • Blindspot monitoring • Adaptive Cruise control

The Honda goldwing will never go away or go away it is an incredible motorcycle. My best friend Lloyd bought one in late 75 it was great fun to ride. No faring or anything else on the bike. We had guys riding Honda's Norton's Kawasaki's Harley's Triumphs and Moto Guzzi bikes. Goodwings will never be out of Honda's catalog.

Honda will put all the trike builders out of business if they drop the Goldwing, and trikes are a sizeable chunk of Goldwings out there, in the US in particular. The waiting list for a conversion is 10 months in some places. You are right, demand is a big part of the problem, and parts supply shortages contribute to not just motorcycles. I think if people can be patient and Honda doesn't make an irrational decision we should be seeing new Goldwings in the future as well. Heck, it's their flagship product - they would be mad to discontinue it without announcing a replacement.

Hi Chris, So I have a 2019 DCT touring. I did notice my wireless headset had to connect in a certain order. Make sure your phones bluetooth is off first. 1 connect the wireless headset to goldwing audio system. When connected. Then plug in the android cell phone. Then turn on the Bluetooth on cell phone. For some reason that always works for me. If you ever go out of sequence you can also go straight to audio settings then manually select Bluetooth headset and that also works for me as well. Hope this helps some of your viewers.

That’s a big wish list! As an owner of a 2012 GL1800 with ABS and Navigation, here’s my 2 cents. 1. Address the seat comfort. My wife and I ride 2-up 95% of the time, and the current Goldwing is deficient in seat comfort where as our 2012 gets no complaints. 2. I know the current Goldwing is much lighter, but Honda sacrificed storage capacity and overall size of the front fairing to get rid of the weight. In my mind 40-45 gallons of storage should be the benchmark with the top case being able to hold two XXL helmets with communicators attached. 3. As far as instrument cluster. I want analog speedometer and tach and a digital display 6”-7” would be nice, 8” would be spectacular. If I were Honda I’d look seriously at Indians ride command system for ideas when it comes to functionality and ease of use. Like you said they could make it easy and use Garmin for their Navigation. Connectivity should be streamlined and user friendly. 4. As for the drive train, the DCT seems to work really well. As for the engine at 1800ish cc it need to make 150ish HP. I know it’s a touring bike and 100 HP is more than enough at the rear wheel, but I do like HP. That said HP is not a dealbreaker for me. 5. I’ve been told the current Goldwing can bottom the front suspension out fairly easily, so that should be addressed with some tweaks to travel and spring rates. 6. Fuel capacity is also lacking 6-7 gallons should be considered the minimum. 7. Wrap that up in nice package that screams Goldwing and I would consider buying that in 2025!

The 6Gen Goldwing's front suspension is not "REVOLUTIONARY". It's merely a varient of Norman Hossacks patented design later purchased by BMW and promoted by BMW as 'Duo-Lever'. This design defies both unsettling front wheel 'Brake-dive' under ALL breaking as well as low-speed bump-steer in those natural ground or distressed, pot-hole addled parking lot situations. This suspension also does away with traditional 'steering stem' bearings and their need to be 'frequently' replaced in 500+lb motorcycles.

Hey CG! I have a 2016 Goldwing level 3. Love the bike but like you there are things I'd like to see on another one. I am a 6'2" 250 lb aggressive rider. I love the Twisties, I have toured all the lower 48 and do lock and lean riding. This is my 3rd wing. The last 2 I have had to up grade the suspension with stiffer springs. Stock is just way too soft. Next I'd like to see some of the storage space back in the bike because it is a tour bike right? More like the 02 -17 models. Make a F6B version and the tour version to give people a choice. Replace that stupid GPS!!! Takes too long to punch in a address. Make it like a cell phone, type it in or use voice orders. I do agree with you on maybe doing something with wireless communication, bike to bike or to the passenger. Keep the 6th gear but don't govern the motor. Next you got to keep the price if these bikes down. You talked about the profit they are making....getting above $30k is going to hurt sales. Heck dirt bikes are now $10k. Way too much for a dirt bike and what people can afford in a toy. I would not go crazy on the electronic crap. More stuff to go wrong. Also offer a taller seat for us taller drivers over 6' tall. This could be my last Wing....I care nothing for the 18's and up. Like my comfort of my 16. Got to go but this quickly what changes is like to see.

Great vid, Chris. I'm quite sure the Goldwing will live on until the World Economy implodes. My 1st Wing was a black 1977 for $2,695. Started touring at age 19. Currently riding a 2002 with 428, 000 miles, and still amazed at how smooth and comfy it is. As snazzy and technologically advanced as the 2018+ Wing is, I feel that it repells many of the older riders, due to its smaller size, harder seat, and smaller windshield. [ ST 1800 ] The local GWRRA members around St.Louis all ride the 2001-2017 1800s. No one has yet to buy the newer Wing. It's not comfy enough, if you are 250 pounds, especially if your 200 pound wife wants to squeeze in behind you. ( typical scenario). And since many have read my articles in Wing World magazine about 500,000 mile or higher Wings ( Phil Steiner now at 722,000 on his 2015 ), they know their bikes will outlive them. Add to that; many have spent big Bux for their trike conversion, and don't wanna fork over almost 50 Grand for a new GW trike. Your thoughts..?

The Headset issue is a legit complaint. Headset>Phone>connected...disconnected....Unplug phone...connected...disconnected.... The other issue is you should be able to use CarPlay without a mic, sure...some features won't work, but that can't be that hard to figure out. The side bags are still entirely too small. (I have a 2018 and the trunk is not good as we all know). I think the drone is a necessary fix too. Honda Suspension is "soft" across the line and under sprung, including this bike. I thought it was the best handling bike I've ever owned until I realized how under-sprung it was after installing Traxxion Dynamics Suspension...then I was terrified Honda sold a bike that was "under-sprung" on the ride home. At a MINIMUM the rear Pre-load needs to be either individual CLICKS (even if digital) or revamped to make the 1-1Luggage 2-2 w/Luggage settings even...as Max says...they go from 0 to 15 from 1 to 1 W/Luggage and 24.5 2 Up and 25 2 Up w/Luggage...useless and nonsensical adjustment ratio. The suspension is the biggest problem I have with the bike and it's an expensive, but worthwhile fix if you plan on keeping the bike as I do. The kickstand pad (Max and others make a bolt-on) is entirely too small for a bike of this size. Tip over Protection is barely there and could easily have been beefed up. Stereo (I've heard is better on the 21-22) is OKAY, but the rear speakers on my 18 can't be heard by the passenger. I regret no spending the money on the upgraded amp and speakers to a degree but didn't want to lose ANY of the ALREADY TOO SMALL space in the sidebag. Rear Seat Space: My wife is 5'3" and small and if we had not done the "trunk relocation kit" from TD I wouldn't have a backrest. The "average" US Passenger is not going to have the room they were used to on the LAST GEN, another issue that isn't HONDAS FAULT but is going to affect sales. GRAB RAILS: Even the upgraded ones are not safe, again...TD has an upgrade, but Honda missed even when they attempted to fix it. 2018-19 are downright dangerous without the upgrade. They made some good moves with the trunk and pre-built luggage rack on the TOP BAG on the updated one, but your assessment of the "next level" to compete with the other options in TOURING is spot on. Some may be too expensive or "tech needs to catch up", but many are not.

Shane O'Dwyer There is no doubt in my opinion that the supply chain issue is the main reason the rumour mill is hot on no more Honda Goldwings. I ordered my Goldwing in March 2021 and received a 2022 model in July. This was purely due to shortages of about everything related to COVID and parts. This is a wonderful video you've put together. While I'm not yet a GW owner/rider...yet, I'm certainly in love with the GW, especially the DCT-Tour. Recently I've come across two problems that unsuspecting GW riders have been contending with and I want to know if Honda can mitigate these two problems through future design modifications. Problem number one is the eventual premature failure of the DCT clutch system experienced by riders who continuously ride the GW DCT-Tour at low enough speeds to have the clutch engage/disengage (and what lies in between this) actuation repeat itself too frequently to its early destruction. I hope Honda will educate future buyers of the GW DCT-Tour about this type of clutch-wrecking riding style since such damage will not be covered by warranty. What I would like to know as a potential buyer is "Can/will Honda be able to modify the DCT system to overcome this inherent weakness of being overworked at the slow speed regimes involving the engage/disengage engine speeds of 1,000 to 1,500 rpm range (am I correct about that rpm range)?" Problem number two is the premature wearing-out of the front shock absorber's bumper due to how close the shock absorbing strut gets/stays when weight (of rider or more) is placed on the bike...there just isn't any useful strut-travel space left. I see too many complains about the shocks being too soft and hitting the bumper too much, too frequently unless the roads are blemish-free. I'm worried that in my part of the world (Abuja, Nigeria) where tarred roads of developed urban areas are 90% riddled with bump-rich blemishes (some smooth, others very rough) and heavy, extended, crawl-pace traffic jams are a daily challenge which means, owning a GW DCT-Tour will be incredibly costly in terms of repeated front strut bumper and clutch replacements. What is Honda doing about these unresolved issues?

Now that BMW, with it's R-18 heritage series, has picked-up where Honda left off with the O.G. Valkyrie, I'd like to see Honda reissue an updated 21st century F-6C lineup featuring, ABS; 6-speed gearbox a/o 7-speed DCT; Cruise Control, Integrated info-tainment, GPS, radio & communication systems: Reverse. And White Wall tires!

In a Nikkie Asia article (Asian financial times) they said that the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are discontinuing some models to meet Japan's new emission standards and they put the blame on the R&D and raw material costs and added weight related to upgrading and retrofitting catalytic converters and related software.

I don’t know about where you’re located, but where I live there are very few Goldwings sold. The local dealership gets about 1 or 2 Goldwings per year to sell. So, I’ve been to every dealership within a 100 mile radius and found that each of them are about the same. This means I have an option of 7 dealerships X 2 bikes = 14 total bikes. 14 in a 100 mile radius? If other places are like it is here, they might need to discontinue them because they aren’t selling.

I've had a 1200 GW...I own a 2003 GW. I think The GW has been turned into a creature that is not really a motorcycle anymore. Even my 2003 is massive overkill for a bike, The GW is a tech showcase. A picture of what is possible on two wheels. Most of the riders I know, who are older, are going back to the simpler, more traditional motorcycles...750 cc or lower. And you can get a lot of nice bikes for much, much less than a 30,000. I mean really, talking about horn buttons and Nav screens, etc. This sounds laughable - what does any of that have to do with biking? Really. It sounds like people don't have anything better to do than obsess over insignificant minutiae. Boys and their toys - I get it. But it has become quite ridiculous overall. $30,000 plus for a bike? We have reached the crazy, alternate dimension.

Moving your seat aft seriously detracts from the handling; yes, no? A little test: ride an older Wing and lay back...use the foot pegs and see how quickly you can react to a near panic issue...poorly about 90+%. Honda spent untold monies for seat position reactive ability and now you want to destroy that ability? Nope...not for me! I don't have enough space or time to address for additional comment?! Good assessments!

@Big-Si2253 2 жыл бұрын
@@philtil8977 I was talking about moving the rider back rest in the seat (not the slip in the seat back rest) an inch or two, not shifting the whole seat back. Given that weight distribution can be affected by either a passenger or luggage or both I don't really see that me as the rider sitting a little further back is going to make any appreciable difference to the handling or my ability to react to an emergency. My point was that Honda could provide different seats for the Goldwing like Harley do with their tall boy seats etc. and BMW do with their factory low or high seats.

Pre-wired CB harnesses. Honda manual says 3 hours to install CB, push-to-talk and related wires and antenna. It took a local Honda dealer 21 hours to install a Honda CB on a 2018... and they charge by the hour. Relocate... no, add additional brake lights to the trunk similar to the previous model. I want the truckers to know when I'm putting my brakes on and the current brake lights are mounted too low. Side lights, front and back, to be seen better at night. Better tip-over bars, they don't have to be as big as the previous model, just a little bigger than what's on it now.

Great video and suggested improvements. How about a standard drive-off center stand? I installed an after market drive off stand and it makes parking the dct a dream (compared to using all my weight to lift via the higher standard center stand) and it makes loading up my passenger so much easier and safer than using the side stand.

Great Wish list!! However, I think all the things on your wish list would push the price into the 35 to 40K range. Some items on your wish list are readily available on the BMW K1600GTL that you test rode. I would be happy with just a simpler way to open the fuel cap, lockable cubbies, improved Bluetooth and cornering ABS. I think Honda could add those upgrades without breaking the bank. ps. I cannot ride the BMW mentioned comfortably 2 up, due to being vertically challenged as many riders are. Besides the low center of gravity on the Goldwing is priceless!!

Quite a list, but the seat on a Gold Wing should be a no brainer since it one the things that is simple to fix and makes everyone mad quickly.I just watched a video from a very old harley Dealer and that was their complaint about the Road Glide. You spend 30K on a motorcycle and it should come with a comfortable seat.

How about tunable shifting points in sport mode. I'd like to dull the take off of 1st gear in sport... too touchy... also.... when you shift down on the DCT in a curve a sensor to hold that gear until the bike is back upright.... and the ability to move 7th gear to higher speeds... and while we're on it, make 7th gear taller so it's a lower rpm at 75 or 80 for better fuel economy on the interstate.... you covered everything else. Good job!

A dynamic cornering light is missing badly - driving around Switzerland and many hours along mountain areas, the bike is not safe during nights to drive around - CHF 39'000.00 and no dynamic lights is a joke! You need to drive your GW in mountain areas to see what's really essential cruiseman! But thanks for all other points which would be good to have...
