The Last Of Us is arguably the best game to close out a generation. Just as the PlayStation 3 was saying its goodbyes, Naughty Dog managed to convince us there was power left to squeeze out of the 2006 console. With the launch of the HBO show, Lockmort suggested we go back to The Last Of Us. Given it has been since 2013 for me, I felt now was the perfect time to remind myself just how much I love this game.

I don't think that scene gets talked about enough when people analyze the ending. To me it's crucial to understanding Joel's decision. After losing his daughter he knows he could not go handle losing Ellie and it would end up the same way as Sam and Henry. So to me it was pure survival instinct that drove Joel at the end

I remember playing the last of us back on like 2016 for the first time and getting stuck at the first real clicker part where you jump down and clear the way for Tess and Ellie and gave up on the game as I just wasn't feeling it... I eventually went back and completed the game and absolutely loved it to the point I play through the game entirely almost every year since.

I've never had a gaming experience that had felt as atmospheric, emotionally resonant, potent, and encapsulating as my first time playing The Last of Us. From start to finish, I was engaged completely, and from start to finish, I felt every single emotion a man could feel. It's a game so powerful that I would love to return to it, but at the same time, I've never been able to, because of the emotional resonance it has for me - I'd be brought to tears just as much as I'd be brought comfort if I were to return to that world. By these merits alone, I think it's a resounding yes.

I'm still playing Factions to this day. No other multiplayer can match the intensity, adrenaline rush, and addicting nature that I get from playing it. It's honestly one of the best tactical shooters console has to offer, which speaks volumes to how ahead of their time Naughty Dog was.

@@bounceycake1 You can find plenty of lobbies still, especially in Supply Raid (which is essentially Team Deathmatch). The only caveats are 1. Cheaters. There are some sad individuals who abuse exploits such as shooting through walls and crab walking (basically the ability to sprint while in stealth stance) 2. Tryhards. A lot of lobbies are filled with level 999 tactical shotgun, burst rifle, or grenade launcher users which can get quite infuriating. It might make getting into Factions as a newbie hell, so beware.

The Factions multiplayer was so fucking good. To this day it's the only multiplayer PVP mode I've ever got truly invested in. Only bad thing about it were its DLC weapons, which were dangerously close to being pay-to-win. I'm cautiously optimistic for Naughty Dog's new multiplayer game, and I'm just hoping it avoids the pitfalls so many other live-service games have fallen victim to.

I have been gaming almost 40 years and I can honestly say it's the only time I have witnessed an ending so multi layered that it sparked so much respectful and intelligent discourse. And it's why I still maintain a sequel never should have happened as that story was perfect and should have been left alone. Any sequel diminishes it in my view. It's like when people say inception needs a sequel. It should never get a sequel as the impact of that ending is still felt and discussed today and that's why it's so great. The last of us should have been treated with the same respect in my view.

I'm in the same boat. I used to like it even more mind you. As I have gotten older, I have come to realize that mechanically speaking, even for games back when it first released, it is pretty by the books and unremarkable. The story is pretty standard zombie fare, albeit done well and same deal with the characters. And after the second game and that whole fiasco I have come to wonder if people that call the two games "masterpieces" would call watching paint dry a "masterpiece" maybe that's just the cynic in me being tired of seeing that term spammed so much as of late speaking.

I was a vegetarian for 3 years, my hair was also getting thinner and I was feeling overall weaker. There were days when I had no energy to pull off everything that I wanted. Once I returned to eating meat and having a balanced diet, I was back to my normal self. I feel younger now than I felt back then: stronger, more energetic, and more able to deal with work-related challenges. Sorry for the unsolicited diet advice, but we evolved eating meat and there's nothing we can do about it. It might feel morally questionable, but agriculture at scale is also damaging for wildlife and lots of species. There is no moral high ground here, it's mostly about taking care of our bodies and living meaningful lives in our limited time here. Otherwise, keep up the good work!

Honestly I came a year late to the party with the last of us part 1. I got my first ps3 for Christmas 2014. It was a ps3 slim bundle with the last of us. I remember not liking it whatsoever at first. So I stopped playing. I switched to the uncharted games since I got all 3 uncharted games along with all resistance games (my favorite) and killzone games for Christmas as well. I loved uncharted 2 and that's what started to help me start to appreciate the naughty dog formula. It wasn't until summer 2018 that I got my hands on a ps4 pro with the last of us remastered that I finally got into it. I loved that they included my home town of Pittsburgh, PA as a location. That to this day is my favorite part and the scene right where they enter the city and you see the yellow bridge in the distance, that is when I snapped an in game photo and to this day its my background for my ps4 pro. One interesting thing that made me adore the last of us was what I felt with the ending. I had grown so attached to ellie that when ellie was taken away from Joel and Joel knows she's gonna die, made me fly into a protective rage for me. I remember killing off every enemy with flamethrowers, grenades, shotguns ect brutally killing off anyone and everyone in my way to get to ellie. When I got to ellie I was so consumed with anger that they'd harm a child and what not I executed all the doctors. Then came the final part with the firefly leader. The second I saw it was her I was instantly pulling the trigger to fire my gun. There was zero hesitation for me. And that's when I realized that that's the point of the game. That Joel had lost one daughter, he wasn't going to lose a second. Even if they weren't related. The brutality of the world and that ending was what made me realize that ruggedness of Joel from so many years of surviving and dealing with the trauma of losing your only daughter, it made me feel exactly what Joel would be feeling in the game. Kill everyone. Leave no one alive so they can't come and find ellie again, and that desperation to save her life. It's not often a game can make me feel such strong enotions. From the beginning with Sarah's death to saving ellie. That's when I knew the last of us part 1 was God tier. Still haven't played part 2. With the whole controversy and hate it gets I've been putting it off for years.

It is and it isn’t. Just played the PS5 update, which is did get on sale, I realized how front loaded the game is and some of the plot line hmmmms that became for many people the weakness of the second game. We would have to have a real conversation to discuss, but I’d still highly, highly recommend the game. There are moments that really hit the emotion button, and as I type we’re 3 hours from the HBO premier. Let’s gooooo!!!!

I didn't actually play Last of Us til 2017 when it was already out on PS4 remastered. I skipped the entire PS3 generation, I was on the 360 for that 7th gen era, so getting a PS4 for the first time with this game and Horizon Zero Dawn was absolutely exciting. What made me decide to go out and buy one just to play it was admittingly the first trailer for Last of Us 2 where Ellie sings and plays the guitar. Talking about that game opens up a whole entire can of worms of itself, so I won't touch on that too long, just going to say I'm glad I'm more of a PlayStation fan these days, and one of the reasons is because of this amazing game :)

Still my favourite version of the game is the OG PS3. Factions rocked and shout outs for Bioshock 2 MP love - I put hours into that - I remember decorating my apartment with winnings you could spend on furnishing. Also becoming a big daddy and having everyone teaming up on you was brilliant fun.

Personally I'd say, NO, but that's not to say it's not a good game. I think The Last of Us works more as a first time experience rather than a game you go back and play over and over. This is more a personal opinion, but the gameplay isn't interesting and the story is generic. But what works is the characters and their dynamic. It really tests the players goal as the games whole focus is getting Ellie to the Firefly, but over time you grow to like her and Joel as people. And at the end of the game you end up making a more selfish and realistic choice that everyone can relate to. But if you play it once you won't get that same feeling again. That's why I've personally never played it again. And I just don't find the gameplay interesting and I don't like the more hallway corridor 3rd person storytelling games. I prefer dynamic storytelling in a more explorable world.

Regardless of how people feel about the second game (which I absolutely loved), the first game is by far my favorite game of all time and has been for the past 10 years. No other game has given me feelings, as well as the adrenaline rush that this game has even 10 years later. I'd say the only game that has gotten very, very close is Red Dead Redemption 2, and it still didn't triumph my love for TLOU. That shows you that Naughty Dog is easily one of the greatest developers of all time, and games like this don't come out every so often.

Not because of selfishness, but because at the end of the day, we know more than ever how BS getting the cure was going to be, and I honestly would have felt much more disgusted if that loose interpretation of getting a cure had actually happened. @@nicekix3038 It's a 'jack of all trades, master of none' kind of situation for me. The game has ok stealth mechanics, ok action sequences and ok movement. I also didnt really enjoy the puzzles. I did love the environmental storytelling and the semi linear levels. Crafting was cool aswell. But the gameplay scores significantly lower due to these reasons!

The only thing I disagree with, is when people compare it to shooters like CoD, Destiny, Halo etc. The game is about being a survivor, not a gun specialist, or super soldier. I think it’s unfair to compare it to other games where the gunplay, and mechanics have to be exceptional for the game to work. Imagine if we had a zombie outbreak in real life, would you be out there killing zombies, and other humans with ease like you been doing it your whole life? Probably not. You would be learning how to survive on as you go. I’m not defending the game, but I think Naughty Dog did a good job making people feel like their life is on line with every encounter in the game, which is more realistic when you consider Joel, and Ellie are regular everyday people who were forced to kill

I've tried to finish this game on 3 separate occasions and still never got through. Phenomenal production but for whatever reason I always put the controller down and move on to something else. Game is not for me but I get the appeal

TLOU is in my top 5 all time. Probably the best story ever. Just so emotional. Keeping Ellie & Joel alive is so satisfying. That's why #2 was such a letdown. I hope the HBO show doesn't go into #2 if they have a 2nd season. I probably wouldn't watch it.

That isn't what the world was about tho, it's about major loss, revenge, and moving on from it. And it's a dark world where anyone can die at anytime from a small bite or stray bullet. Joel f-ed over so many people that had so many reasons to kill him. Killing him fits in the story and gave Ellie her turn to overcome grief. People just can't get over their protagonist not having unlimited plot armor. They want a fairy tale happy ending even when it doesn't fit the theme.
