Following the reveal of Assassin's Creed Mirage, I wanted to throw it back to the original Assassin's Creed game that started it all. While many view it as the beginning of the end for Ubisoft's reign as the dominant open world developer, it's still something worth appreciating when you separate it from all the noise. So let's hop in the animus and revisit some important memories within the original Assassin's Creed!

The outside of the animus story was so core to the game being what it is imo. Idk why they got rid of it.. I loved Desmond & his story.

Agreed. And Desmond meant there was a reason to explore ancestor memories. Without that pending war against templars in modern day, it feels pretty aimless

Yeah. I loved it. I also miss the conspiracy theory vibe the series had as well. 2 and Brotherhood had it especially, though I never liked how difficult some of the puzzles became. The story they told when you solved them was great though. The way it connected the AC story to historical events was awesome. That's pretty much completely gone now.

The first AC is so iconic. It had such a charm to it. I remember freaking out anytime I accidentally ran into one of the armored Templar knights. On a side note, I’ve been replaying all the older AC games lately. Just finished ACII last night. Replaying them reminded me how much I hated the mechanics and controls. There’s so many frustrating things in the pre Black Flag games. For the life of me I don’t get why people want it to go back to that. I’ve been a fan of the franchise since the first game I still feel that the new formula introduced in Origins was the best thing to happen to the franchise. Made the game a lot more fun in my opinion. I know Mirage is supposed to return to the old formula but hopefully it wont be as frustrating to play.

You can watch some guides online that'll help with the old "puppeteering" controls. The control scheme has a lot of depth as opposed to post AC3 being "hold 1 button for everything", I don't wanna be that guy but........ Skill issue.
@Angelus13AOV

@@pirahna0145 I don’t wanna be that guy either but… played every game as they were released and 100 percented them all, multiple times. Just because I enjoyed the games doesn’t mean I had to love the crappy mechanics and controls. But thanks for being like everyone else on the internet and assuming that just because someone doesn’t like an aspect of a game they must surely not be skilled enough to play it. I totally forgot that we’re all supposed to have the same opinion on everything.

@@Angelus13AOV mate you don't have to have a cry over it and try validating yourself by flexing your achievements, if you tried your best at the classic control scheme and failed at controlling the character then it's fine you calling the old controls shit. @@pirahna0145 Indeed. A random commenter who showed that they don’t know how to express their opposing opinion in a civilized manner and without insulting someone else. Also, the fact that you’re claiming that I’m the one having a cry about it, when all I did was call you out on your narrow-mindedness and douchebaggery is laughable. You expect to denigrate someone’s skill and not have them prove that you don’t know what you’re talking about. Had you left out your last sentence your words would’ve been given more consideration. I’ll give you some advice myself… don’t speak to people like an asshole if you don’t want people calling you out. Don’t even bother attempting to puff your virtual chest out any further because I will not lower myself any further to respond to someone who clearly doesn’t have the skill to exchange opinions in a civilized and intelligent manner. Hearing about ac 1 when I was young and getting a glimpse, u will admit I didn’t get as amused into it as the other games, specifically the ézio collection and three itself, but I can tell how this game was a big thing during its time of something so different compared to what has been out during the time. And I will say from replaying this series from my child hood due to its multiplayer closing down, it said sept 1 for its multiplayer on brotherhood, revelations, and three, modivated me to grind out its trophies and play what I missed in my childhood. Even finishing and grinding out its story and extras to platinum these games and got its remasters of its games for the ps4, and attempting to continue what I never touched much as games kept continuing, I will def be keeping up with this series til they say their finished. Started playing its games when I was 9-10, and here I am 21 and still enjoying its games all these years later.

My first entry into the franchise was through the PSP game AC Bloodline, it was surprisingly really good despite the PSP’s limitation. Regardless, my 7 year old self fell in love with the franchise and so I played through AC 2 and 3 (yes I skipped Revelations and Brotherhood too but played it later), and eventually begged my parents for a PS4 and then played Black Flag on there. My love for gaming began with Assassin’s Creed and despite the series’ and it’s developments major flaws it’s a series I’ll hold forever close to my heart. Wasn’t all that great at history in school but AC made me love it and appreciate it’s importance

There’s a brilliant bit of flavour text in the booklet for II, where Lucy asks that swimming be available to the ancestor and saying the lack of this was a bug in the Animus 1.0 model. Companies willing to throw some shade on themselves is always worth a chuckle. The contents of the booklet present a mystery to a new player reading on the trip home or before they can get to their console that they can figure out by starting the game, that it’s written by Rebecca with Lucy giving feedback and some of the notes sounding like feedback that would be given with some information being repetitive and pointing out unnecessary use of jargon acronyms. In the game itself they use the fact this is a different animus mode to lampshade some of the lack of features in the last one, like subtitles.

14:54 man, these complaints were unfortunately what led to the modern day storyline being practically ditched or heavily diluted after 3 which is a shame because even though kid me hated the Desmond segments as much as anyone else, adult me's favorite part about the AC franchise was the modern day overarching story and conspiracy theories tied to it.

The original and Ezio trilogy, they were astounding for a reason, but admittedly they did not age well. I still miss the snappy mechanics, but the story and objective passing leaves a lot to be desired.

Ubisoft really cock teased a remaster or remake that has yet to materialise, was disappointed it wasn’t among the announcements tonight.

I'm playing origins now and I much prefer the combat even in the first game. Having a hard time adjusting to it so I try and do as little combat encounters as possible. Besides that origins also has some bloated amount of fetch quests. Those are my main gripes with it, haven't tried odyssey or valhalla yet but I have a feeling they will also have some of those issues.

The combat in the old games wasn’t good, they just take turns hitting you and you press Y to insta kill them
