As OG 2011 ISF for 13yrs I’m very familiar with this platform. I can say that the IS500 and M3 are two totally different cars. The main thing they have in common is that they are both four-door rwd sport sedans. IS500 is GT car with great N/A V8 fantastic exhaust note with tons of character that will do 300k miles. The M3 is much more focused sport sedan with one of best motors BMW has made in well over decade. Now if you want to address the softer side of IS500 Add PPE jet hot coated equals length headers, hi flow cats, tune with good cat back exhaust looking at 40hp to 50hp to wheels that’s between 510hp to 520hp. Add some KWv2 or Olin’s coilovers, Figs Engineering of RR Racing LCA bushings to helps steering feel and control. Get rid of mono block calipers from the IS350 and replace them with ISF 6 piston brembo calipers that bolt right up, they have great stopping power and don’t fade with right brake pads. Now you have sharper handling,more powerful car with better braking and still all best parts of Lexus quality, build quality materials, bulletproof motor, and trans. Just a well built car.

Lexus is missing out on huge opportunity by not redesigning the interior. Add some orange stitching, some new elements from the RX, and ambient lighting and they would have way more buyers interested. The IS has one of the most interesting exterior designs out there. I saw one over the weekend at night.

From someone in the market recently and test drove a tesla model s plaid, lexus RCF, lexus LC500, 2021 bmw m4 comp RWD, and a ct5v blackwing. I decided on the LC500 based on the driving dynamics of the steering feel, and most importantly the gorgeous design and visceral v8. I had all the documents sent to me and was a docu-sign email away from buying the car. Then I watched some videos of people comparing the rwd m4 to the XDrive version and to sum it up they all said it was the best of both worlds allowing u to go RWD and when in xdrive it could grip on the worst of surfaces and fly. So to make a long story shorter I test drove a 2023 bmw m4 xdrive and had a "bmw genius" show me all the mind blowing new tech thats in the car that the other cars flat out didn't have and or bmw made it more seemless. The bmw m4 xdrive is truly the best luxury sports car u can buy. It drives on a string and comes with a sense of confidence at all times. I now have an AA equal length midpipe with MAD front mount intakes. It's not a v8 but the whoosh noise from the intakes is argue is even cooler of a noise and is addicting asf. It's speed and handling with the xdrive system is a game changer. Just my thoughts.

Lexus could've had a chance to make the is500 a true ISF. At the same price this would've been an awesome F car. Blue manifolds on the engine, brembo brakes all around, some F style side fenders, and last but not least, the 10-speed transmission and exhaust of the LC500 would've been the icing on the cake.

RCF is not a two door version of the 3IS. I have an RCF and IS350 F-Sport. The chassis and suspension is more or less the same in the IS350 F-Sport as it is in the IS500 F-Sport. Completely different cars. RCF is smaller, wider, lower and has all of the track tuning as it is an F car. This is not an M3 competitor. It is an m340i competitor. It matches up well with the m340i that Lexus targeted with the IS500 F-Sport. The amount of body roll, floatiness, squat and dive even noticeable watching the video should tell clearly about why Lexus called F-sport. It is not an M3 competitor because it does not have the beefed up suspension, chassis, brakes, cooling, wheels/tires etc.

@@LONGWALDO Meaningless. Smaller, wider, lower, stiffer chassis, suspension, big brakes, cooling, wider tires, wheels etc. It is just physics. It practically impossible to look at it another way. I own an IS350 F-Sport and literally, IS350 F-Sport feels the same as an IS500 F-Sport minus the V8. It is an anomaly than anything else. LC500 is a 4400 lbs GT car that is slower on every single track including a head to head match than the RCF except one, which is C&D where it magically did 3:04 as well. Moreover, the RCF TE should not be 3 seconds faster than the standard RCF as the gap is only 1 - 1.5 seconds between the two on other tracks. Their numbers are not comparable done 8 years apart since the track goes through re-pavement over the years. Raw handling number wise, MT figure 8 lap time is 24.6 seconds for RCF and 25.2 seconds for IS500. RCF does the skidpad at 0.99g and IS500 at 0.92g both measured by C&D. I own an IS350 F-Sport and an RCF CF TVD. I drove both on the Lexus performance driving event in auto cross. The IS500 feels rather lazy with way too much squat, dive and rolls and floats everywhere while RCF is way sharper, precise and oversteer happy through tight turns. Also, it was noted by the C&D editors that Lexus fitted the IS500 with full suspension, brakes, coolers, tires It is a fact not disputed by anyone that including IS500 owners who drove the RCF. C&D lap time absolutely means nothing. I have driven both cars and I can tell you they don't compare at all.

Agreed with all except for the chassis. The IS500 has more in common with the GS F's chassis than the IS350. The IS500 and the GS F are pretty much the same minus the rear link and the extra strut bars. They even have the same welding points.

@@yousef.al-assaf The sequence works like this. When the 3IS was developed in 2012, the chassis was developed as a shortened version of the existing 4GS platform. They are all IS because they share the same base platform. The IS500 has exactly the same underpinnings/chassis that any other 3IS IS350 or IS300 etc. have. They have the same chassis code because it is the same base platform for all 3IS such as, IS350 and IS500. Though, the IS500 F-Sport nose had to be elongated by 2 inches (187 inches length) in order to make room for the 2UR V8. Not sure about the shock tower braces, but I think you mean the front shock tower braces, but GSF never came with those. It was in the RCF. You can look at the engine compartment pictures.

Joe, pretty much a majority of auto manufacturers consider manual transmissions a thing of the past. Which really sucks, cause I’m an avid manual transmission enthusiast. And less and less cars are made with manual transmissions. I think Honda (Civic Type R and Integra Type S) are the few 2024 cars that comes with manual transmission option. It’s too bad Lexus didn’t want to do so with this premium IS. I would have like to have it as a manual as well. This color is wild though! Great review as always, Joe! Cheers!

Yes, the chrome on our car is an eyesore. Replaced the mirrors completely with the EVS carbon kit. To whip this thing hard on corners you need to upgrade the suspension with some camber adjustments.
